He does them, it's just a lot of work, and he edits the whole batch before putting them out. So he'll do a bunch, then there'll be a gap... then another bunch.
It's walled off because they're doing a complete rebuild of the mall and they're planning on reopening it. What the video didn't show you is the doors he goes in.. you turn 180 degrees and you see the primary reason this is now a dead mall: wal-mart super center. Good luck to them.
I grew up a five minute walk from this mall, worked in a store there when I was sixteen as a stocker. My mother worked at JC Pennys for about ten years. Sad to see what's happened to that end of Canton. Live in Michigan now, retired age 73. Thanks for posting.
One of my first jobs was at Hot Sam's pretzels in Lincoln Mall (Matteson, Illinois), a mall now demolished after being closed a few years ago. I used to get all the pretzels and fresh-squeezed lemonade I wanted, and we often traded pretzel sticks with the Cinnabon across the way or with Orange Julius next door. Christmas shopping season was wild because the line at my Hot Sam would stretch on and on and on. It seemed that everyone who came to the mall just HAD to get some Hot Sam before leaving. I miss Hot Sam a lot. Even though modern pretzel shops are good, nothing beats a hot pretzel on a stick dipped in cream cheese or cheddar! I just found a shop online selling Hot Sam t-shirts, so if anyone wants one, just look up "Bygone Brand". I'll be ordering one soon.
I really enjoy dead mall videos and this is no exception. it is really surprising that they even have that part of the mall open and not just the front entrance to the JC Penney's
I had no idea there were so many dead malls out there. I have been following Dan Bell's channels for a while now and I thought HE covered a huge number! Subscribed.
Northeast Ohio, where this mall is, is a "mecca" of dead malls... besides Canton Centre, go a bit farther north on I-77 and you'll come to the remains of the infamous Rolling Acres Mall (a.k.a. "Rotting Acres Mall") in Akron... 26 miles north of Rolling Acres and 9 miles outside of Cleveland is what's left of Randall Park Mall (pretty much demolished except for the former anchor stores)... then head up the East Shoreway (I-90/SR-2) to E. 260th St. and Babbitt Rd. and you'll come across Euclid Square Mall, shut down, abandoned, but not yet demolished like its more famous siblings in North Randall and Akron...
Nice! I had considered putting this footage in my Canton Centre video too! :) Wow they're really getting it cleaned up back behind that wall too. It used to be just destroyed back there.
I got my start in construction in 1986 moving Hot Sam's pretzel shops to the new food court areas in Ohio ,NJ,Va.Ny ,this one was one of them I helped put together back then ,how rare to hear anything about Hot Sam's these days ,way cool also pretzel time bought out all the Hot Sam's i think around 15 yrs ago
Nice video. I live in Maryland and in one of the local malls I spent a lot of time in as a kid there was a Hot Sam's. Glen Burnie Mall. It's now being demolished. I was pretty down about that for a couple of days. The dead mall videos are nice but what I really like to see is the video of malls before they died. What is the date on that short footage clip in the start of the video? Anyone know? I would guess late 80's early 90's. Maybe mid 90's. It was nice seeing it. I wish we had more footage of the malls back before they became ghost towns. But back then cameras were bulky and not everyone carried them around with them. People back then thought the malls would be around forever. So it's rare to run across footage from the malls before they died. If anyone has any get it posted to youtube if you can.
Amazing the door was open so you could walk through it like that. I guess only because the JC Penny is still open. I didn't see the water damage you spoke of? Maybe I didn't see enough of the ceiling to notice it? It doesn't appear to be in that bad of shape. I guess Penny still open is keeping the vandals out.
once the mall finally died there was alot of rumors of what it was gonna be 1. was it was to be torn down and Aultman Hospital was gonna build a Children's Hospital 2. whole building was going to be torn down and Walmart would be built (which part of it was for Walmart) and the 3rd one I heard the main building would be torn down and build a huge Plaza kinds like The Strip in North Canton
This mall was known as Canton Centre Mall, not City Centre. City Centre is in Columbus. Also, Mellet is pronounced like "muh-let." A food court (transformed into current storefronts) was added around 1988.
This mall at one time had a multi Plex an arcade and a food court the wall that you seen on the right hand side was the food court now houses the storage areas for the stores in the front of the mall the wall near jc Penny's blocks off the entrance to more smaller store fronts and an old Macy's as well as the area that once housed the multi Plex and arcade
I'm also shocked they allowed the public in that area. Those dinky "caution wet floor" signs don't really seem sufficient for that amount of standing water ...
No wonder-look at all that standing water!!It will rot if left of course, just such a shame to see these places fall like that.Nice video, nonetheless!!!
Crazy that wing/hallway open to public no stores left was just a walkway to JCPennys sure mall has since closed. Crazy people can walk through there with all water on floor. That closed off section for sure wasn't good for people's health.
All the various exploration channels I have come across, including yours, I found through the various "Rotting Acres" videos... keep up the awesome work!
ihatetaft yes the mall is still there the movie theater is the only anchor left. some one just brought it December 2016 they just unveiled plans this month January 2017 to make it a open air shopping center and they are keeping the movie theater it will be the main focus . the tenants have until March 2017 to move out of the mall . I thank they are going to tear it down and rebuilt it.
ihatetaft not no more just one food place left as of summer 2016 when I last went there less than 10 stores left. after the 3 anchors stores closed the mall went down hill.
Bobby and Dana Majors Sad that their only anchor stores are ones that are now defunct. When I was a kid the food court had a Carl's Jr. a Hot Dog On A Stick, Sabbaro? maybe Arbys?
