As great as Considine is I think actor playing Sonny (Gary Stretch) is equally brilliant here, he’s playing “scared, but trying really, really hard not to show it”about as well as I’ve ever seen.
Agreed this film has not got close to the recognition it deserves! The scenes of the spiked kettle was very intense. sonny played a massive part throughout. Best revenge film to be made up to yet. If anyone disagrees give me a better one to watch, I’ll wait right here.
As soon as he cuts Sonny off with "Yeah it was me" he laid it all bare there and then. He win the argument and instilled doubt in Sonny. From that moment until "your fucking there mate" absolute juggernaut of a man Richard.
Im convinced that Richard was armed to the teeth in this scene with concealments and had a huge bowie knife or something down his back pocket had Sonny or any of his stupid goons made a move.
As a car guy, I'll never get my head around why the antagonists turned up in a white and green Citroen 2CV. If anything, it adds to the unsettling atmosphere of the film.
I mean everything about Paddy's character would make you think "SHIT WE'RE IN TROUBLE", the look on Sonny's face when he realises how close he was to being killed and didn't even realise it until that moment. You can see he is absolutely shitting his pants and trying his hardest not to look frightened
This film messed with me. He has the same disdain for his brother as the guys he kills and this film is more about him facing his shame and embarassment than it is revenge. His brothers character was really bleak.
I disagree. You can at the same time be embarassed or annoyed or whatever still you stay loyal and caring for family and loved ones. That is the point. It struck me too when I watched the last scene first time but it was his final moments and he had chosen this man to be his confessor. So he let go of a huge burden to be real and mean to his brother once. Bleak? His brothers character was a ghost. And he was played in a way that made Dustin Hoffman'S rainman look like a jewish clown.
@holzfallen1113 I just get the feeling more that his brother was a burden or an embarrassment. That's why he left the town. Doesn't mean he didn't care for him but he carried that burden even after death. I also never thought he's a ghost. I think he's a figment of a psychological break.
The song name is called untitled 2 by Calexico Edit: another song used in the film by Calexico is untiled 3 which I actually think this one is. Also check out Forgotten Thoughts by Laurent Garnier (which is one of the songs used during the drug sequence)
@@JimmyHammer Haha yeah it really does not do such a great film justice whatsoever. Saying that, it doesn't look as if anyone has been near the channel for 6 years so I'm probably shouting at fresh air haha. Have a good day :)
@@Phavom not being cheeky, but at the start you see (paddy)at his brother's 's funeral (Toby),the dealers thought it would be a laugh to give his bruv Ekkys, and cos his bro was a bit slow ,freaked out at the farm and hung himself, where paddy gets that guy to stab him, the bloke who had the least to do with his brothers death. From Australia 🇦🇺✌️
I agree but still an old ford focus or Mondeo would have been better. I get that the director wanted to be memorable and probably a little comedic with the choice of car. Still undermines the gang's intimidation and makes the soldier look head and shoulders above them. Almost an unfair fight.
Equally the Citroen does show the arrogance of the gang. How could they think they were somehow better or an equal match to an ex-soldier. Shows how talented Meadows is. 16 years later and people are discussing what type of car they should drive 😂
I guess I like that this “gang” is just a bunch of soft, clueless townies with one goddamn bullet. We’ve seen the whole “one man war against impossible odds”, the fact that everybody in this movie is kinda broken and pathetic gives it a little something extra. Even the kills are kinda.. sad and uncinematic.
Altho I know the car was used to portray how pathetic and plastic gangsta those guys were, I think it's a good cover car for a bunch of low life drug dealers. What I mean is, if you saw that car you'd expect a granny to be driving it lol.
