Dead Massey Harris Moved To The Shop

Today the MX5400 Kubota is used to push, pull and drag a dead 1949 or '50 Massey Harris 30 up to and into the shop for needed maintenance. It's a bit tight for the larger Kubota. I'm more used to the much smaller B3030 to do this kind of thing. But its much better to have the additional power of the higher capacityu hydraulics and greater traction of the much healthier and beefier MX5400. This just means I need more room to maneuver so I'm thinking the additional materials stacked outside some of the buildings are going to have to go !!
It's looking like a few rainy days coming up so I was looking for a nice project to fill the time. Can't cut wood or saw lumber so may as well work on something rusty !! #kubota, #massey, #antiquetractor

Well, one day at a time an one tractor at a time. I really like these old Massey Harris tractors of all sizes. I do hate to see 'em in a savage yard heading to China.

Oh yeah, it was a good daily driver for a long time. I'd ran this one down the mile or two to my son's house with the belt drive buzz saw a long time ago. It's not gonna take much I don't think.

That 4 wheel drive with the loader made the shifting of that Massey easy. Im hoping to get the mediocre Dong feng running so I can do the same sort of stuff.

@tractorman4461

I'm not sure of the actual HP, but they call it 54. I'd say its most likely under 50 in actuality. Brake HP ratings is different from usable pto hp and drawbar hp.

I sure do enjoy your videos. Lots of knowledge on your part and extremely entertaining. Wondering if you got your exit line "This is Tractorman44 and I am out of here" from the trades or where you picked that up. Many years ago when I started my electrician's apprenticeship, I worked for a journeyman that used a line very similar to that. I also heard it from the previous generation of electricians periodically on jobs. Haven't heard it in years, except for you. Brings back memories, as I am now retired as well. By the way, I know you like Massey 30's for their economy and easy steering with a reasonable amount of power. Just wondering what, in your opinion, you think of the Allis Chalmers WD in comparison to the Massey 30 as far as performance and economy. What are your thoughts? Looking forward to seeing what you do with this tractor. I do have a 44, but have not managed to line up a 30 (yet). Came close on a 101JR, which should be pretty similar to a 30, shouldn't it? Take care and again thanks for everything. I always check if you have any new videos out. Brightens my day when you do.

Hahahaha...such an AWESOME comment !! Thank you !! The tag line just sounded like something good to say. Short and simple, kinda like me. LOL The 30 is about 70 cubic inches smaller than the WD or WD45. The Allis's have much bigger carb jetting so they are going to use more fuel. More ergonomically unfit for a stiff old guy like me too. The 30's are miniature 44's and give much more leg room for less cramping than I get on the WD's. That's just me though. LOL. The WD is way more of a tractor though than the little 30. But the Flathead 162 is just about bulletproof in all regards. The 30 was the model that replaced the 101Jr. The early Jr's had a 124 flathead, the mid years went to a 140 cu in continental they the later years of production they had the 162 but still the same old 4 speed. The next year they paired the 162 with the 5 speed and gave us the model 30. Same size axles but smaller tires than the 33's and 44's but bigger than the JR. The really good smooth running one was the 101 Super or 101 Sr with either the continental or Chrysler industrial 6 banger !! I LOVE them both. Now the Super and the Senior are in direct competition with the still larger WD as far as cubic inch is concerned, but they still have the 4 speed. Now for another twist, the 44-6 is much more productive than the WD with almost identical cubes and the benefit of the heavier 44 frame and 5 speed !! Sweet machine. The 44-6 frame is a tad longer than the regular 44 due to the length of the six. I like to use the cast centers of the 44 special as wheel weights on the little 30. With the added weight, the little guy turns into a much more productive tractor but you still have the added benefit of the easy steering with the light front end plus the economy of the small jets in the carb. Still won't hold a candle to a WD though in a direct pulling competition. Thank you AGAIN for the super cool comment. I do appreciate you guys taking your time to watch my silly videos !! By the way, all the engine sizes of the Jr through the 30's interchange very easily. There may be a little throttle linkage to dink with, but for the most part they are a simple change. Good Luck and enjoy the week my friend.

Hi my friend. I watched the third function video and this one. Awesome and awesome videos. Have you ever heard a bird that sings the first four notes of Beethoven 's fifth sym ???? Sorry for the spelling. There is a Bird here this year that does just that ! I had to get the rest of the Family to listen,to make sure I hadn't lost what little mind I have left : ) As always I liked and shared. All my very best to you and yours.

Hahahaha...it ain't bad on the skid loader, but on the front of a loader of a tractor it's kinda tough. Your'e right !! Even hooking them up on this new ones quick attach is aggravating. If I lean too far on the seat to see the edge of the SSQA the safety switch shuts it off. But no matter. Its all a learning curve. I've got to find the right elevated area to drop the attachments on.

@@Wheelloader__ Yessir, just high enough to be able to see the dang SSQA lining up. The Kubota bucket has about an eighth inch play but the old set of forks have a good 3/4'' on each one.

Any chance you have the lift arms for a Massey Harris 44? Or can you post a picture of the back that might help me build one. I have 4 with the hydraulics, which is a 22, 30 and two 44s.
@tractorman4461
@tractorman4461 3 месяца назад
I actually have a 44 with a Danuser aftermarket 3 point set up for sale. It's still on the tractor and looks to be a little lighter duty than the factory 3 point. Now, when you say your 44's have the hyraulics, is it the cultivator lift or is it the actual 3 point hydraulic set up and you're just missing the lift arms. The two are different. I think this video may show a 44 Special three point. But I'm not sure.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-opwZt7sgkdk.html I also have a Saginaw 3 point aftermarket on a 30 that I've been thinking of removing and selling too.
