This really was the narrative highlight of the series. In the first game, Kasumi, who is all sweetness and niceness, kills the end boss out of hate, revenge for what he did to her brother. In this game, Ayane, Kasumi's opposite, seen as bitter and selfish, kills the end boss out of love, to put him at rest and honour what he was and their history. Great Juxtaposition.
I love the native chanting in the background it makes this a spiritual ending, ayanes saying goodbye to the man she looked up and raised her fire is the symbol of his spirit being purified and moving into the afterlife…
I cannot express my intense nostalgia seeing this for the first time in ages. I was so invested and obsessed with this story and characters when I was 9-12 lol. I plan on buying DOA6 when it comes down in price
This is the time to pick up Dead or Alive 6. You can get it for twenty bucks now new. Honestly, I like Dead or Alive 6 more than Dead or Alive 4 or 5. But I wish they would bring back Team Battle Mode 😢.
This is such an interesting ending to interpret, as she’s just killed her father figure who was being used as a puppet by DOATEC for their latest biohuman fighter project. What intrigues me is after she walks away it shows her walking away again. Is it just a transition shot of her walking further away? Perhaps. Sometimes I think it’s her soft side walking away, her innocence ending, giving up on its attachment to her. After she had to kill her father figure something in her died. Her spirit/soul was changed completely after this fight, that’s for sure.
@@JupiterMuffles i think the dimensions retcon makes this ending have less meaning. among the many other retcons. just as a personal preference, i like the original tellings of 2 & 3.
@@JupiterMuffles a year late, but for whatever reason they didn't make Dimensions a straight retelling of DOA1-4. Instead, they added a bunch of retcons that honestly kinda ruined the story and completely destroyed this ending As I'm sure you might know, Genra is Ayane's foster father. Originally, he actually genuinely cared about her, being one of the very few people to do so in her entire life and he did so the longest. Then DOATEC kidnapped and brainwashed him, turning him into a weapon to use against the Mugen Tenshin clan. He no longer had any control over himself and was forced to do as DOATEC commanded. As a result, Ayane had to put him down. Its why she cries in her ending. He was her foster father, one of the few people who actually cared for her, and she had to kill him because of what DOATEC did to him. She even had to defeat Hayate beforehand since he wouldn't allow her to face Genra, which was a moment of real character growth for her Dimensions on the other hand for whatever reason completely ruined Genra as a character entirely. There they made him into a cliché villain who wants power because "Reasons™". He willingly allows himself to become that same weapon that DOATEC originally forced him into being and willingly turns against the Mugen Tenshin clan because, once again, "Reasons™". He apparently never cared about Ayane and was just using her, he uses her as a shield and attacks her without remorse, and to top it all off they then steal the kill from Ayane entirely and give it to Hayabusa, because having Hayabusa interfere with every major victory that a character once won solo was like their favorite thing to do in Dimensions (seriously, he interferes in EVERY major fight, its ridiculous). They even took her victory against Hayate away from her, ruining that moment of growth. After Genra dies in Dimensions, they then showed this ending, except they didn't change anything about it, so it essentially loses all of its original intended meaning. Now she's not crying because she had to kill one of the few people who actually loved her, she's crying because her foster father was an asshole So yeah, Dimensions completely ruined everything about this ending. I don't consider Dimensions canon either, it honestly just adds a whole bunch of issues to DOA's story and completely ruins Ayane's growth as a character
@@MiniBlackWaltz Ah well, it's been years since I played Dimensions and was never able to play 3 since it was an Xbox exclusive. Thanks for telling me that
why cant they bring this Ayane back? she's so much more cuter and bad-ass, and i love her ninja outfit, i mean they revived all her other like costumes, why not this one? and she didnt behave as annoying and on-top of the world in the older games. she usedto be my fave character, now she just seems like a lurgy
Correct, ever since DOAX2 TN "killed" her character. She was AMAZINGLY deep for a fighting game character and especially fan service based franchise like DOA. Nowadays she is just a shadow of her former self!
@@diegomeneghello9799 I think they spoiled all the characters for the love of fanservice. Plus they keep adding lame ass cute female characters and lolis and I hate that. Too bad.
This is fantastic ending, music, atmosphere and emotion, new DOA's can't compare. Now Ayane is reduced to minor character and Hayate's sidekick. They need to make her important and badass again.
@Milkshakevanilla... ayane is his half sister kasumi and hayate it shows in a video intro of one of the games and see the children of the three, I think it was censored for showing the attack on their mother.
ayane had an interesting depth to her. i think her side of the story is not as appreciated as kasumi’s and gives some reason why she is very headstrong/on guard. both must have complex emotions but ayane interested me more. i wish they kept the game like this and explored the main cast instead of watering them down and turning it into a loli circus.
This ending and the DOA Ultimate intro solidify Ayane as a more dark and serious character, which makes her appearances in Ninja Gaiden fitting while not so fitting in Senran Kagura.
