Hey Steven, A no-power fault is very common for these sets, the tricky part is finding out which board is at fault. That power check you did with the multimeter is the only way. So if you did have power then it would confirm the mainboard is the fault. If you did not get power to the mainboard then the fault must be the DPS board no providing power to the main.

In my opinion, the picture on Sony sets is outstanding. In terms of quality, it's hard to beat them. I would say however that society as a whole has gone down in terms of the longevity of product functionality and quality. I am not talking about a brand or even TVs or electronics. I mean everything, even furniture. It seems everything is more about how cheap can we make it. The worst part is that consumers (myself included) jump right into that trap.

Just grab the part numbers from the chip, and go to eBay. If they don't have it, aliexpress and alibaba usually does.

Either the DPS board or your mainboard are still bad. Those are the 2 parts that most commonly fail and cause a no power fault. If you want to send in your original power supply, DPS and mainboard, we can live test each part individually. We do a $20 bench fee per item. Which ever item we do find to be defective we can fix for you and send back fully functional. This would take out any guess work. (our contact info is in the video description if you are interested)

Mhmm, you may want to rewatch the video. We aren't doing capacitor checks in ohms. If you pay close attention to the video what we are doing is short checks to the processor chip. Putting one side of the lead to ground, and the other side of the lead to a trace that connects directly to the processor chips underside. Because we obviously can't access the solder balls on the underside of the chip with the multimeter lead, instead we follow the trace as it comes out from under the chip, which often happens to intersect or end where a capacitor is located. Knowing that the other side of the capacitor is always going to be ground they are ideal test points for the chip. Does that make sense now? We are putting our leads on both sides of the capacitor but since the capacitor is in parallel with the processor we are actually doing a reading on the chip and not the cap since the caps won't register a resistance reading with our multimeter, and thus only the processor chips reading will get picked up. I hope this clears things up for you.

After CPU replacement then yes it should still work, after eMMC no it won't work. It's casting not chromcasting. Please read my other commend about the difference.

That is a UK board. I do not have those modules available. What I would recommend however is for you to get your original mainboard fixed instead. I do not fix UK model mainboards, the software is different, and I don't have that software. We do have a friend in France however who does exactly what we do, but with the european and UK models. I have the exact same model and same issue, mine stopped working about a month ago. Did you find a replacement board and did it fix your issues?

I learned via trial and error. Self tought. I never enjoyed spending time looking for data sheets, figuring out which pins are ground which are data, Vin and Vout, but I know that a cap only has 1 side to ground not both. So if there are shorted caps around a chip I know that chip is shorted. It makes it faster to identify faulty chips. And yeah sometimes the chip is fine and turns out it's the cap, but that's very rare with TV boards.

In that case you most likely have a mainboard fault. Typically that IC chip on the DPS board shorts out and causes a no power symptom. We go over it more in depth in this video linked below: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kaCl8J1pPd8.html But if you check out the DPS board and you get the correct output voltage and you don't have that short on the IC that we found in that video, then your mainboard is most likely the fault. I believe we more commonly see the DPS fail than the mainboard, but of course both can fail and both can cause the same no power symptom. Unplug it from power. Wait 10-15 seconds. Press and hold the volume down and power buttons on the TV (not the remote). As you keep those pressed in, plug in the set to power and wait 10 seconds or until the standby light turns green. If it doesn't turn green repeat the process. If it does turn green then let go of the buttons and the set will reset itself to factory default.

Sorry we don't have that, we only have the USA model software. They have differences which will make the mainboard not work properly. You need to find someone that has software for your model specifically.

You could have either a backlight failure or screen failure. When the picture goes out, does the screen still glow? Turn the lights off and check. If yes, then you may have either a screen, or T-con failure. If it does not glow however, shine a flashlight onto your screen. If you can faintly see the picture, then it means your backlight has gone out and needs to be replaced.

@@NicksTVRepair Hi sorry for the late replay, I checked the things you mentioned. I turned the tv on and it was working fine so I left it turned on over the night at the garage to see if there will be any change. Next day the tv the image was gone and it was faintly glowing. You could also see a bit brighter glow over the places where an image is supposed to be present. What do you think could be the cause of this? Is it fixable and what must be replaced? I can include a video of what the tv looks like when the image is gone and glows through email to help figure out the problem. Thank you.

@@NicksTVRepair Thank you! But the A8H doesn't have a .PKG file. Also, I replaced the main board and the power board, but still no led lights whatsoever and it's not picking up firmware at all. Have you ever dealt with the actual A8H?

I will have to assume you have the European model KD-55X8500E and not the North American XBR-55X850E The version for the 49" 65" and 75" should be cross-compatible for your model. If you can find mainboards for those, then you are golden. If not, then send your board for repair to this guy in France: www.mjkelectronics.com/en/75-sony-mjk-electronics He does exactly what we do but for European models. He should have no problem fixing that issue for you.

Charith, What have you done for troubleshooting so far? A black screen with a plasma means it could be a lot of things. It might be difficult to diagnose. Do you have a multimeter available and the ability to do live voltage checks and resistance checks?

​@@charithdisanayaka8714 The first thing I would do is to check to see if the VS and VA high voltage lines are shorted to ground. If either is, then disconnect the boards from one another and then check them again on each and every board. If neither the VS nor the VA is shorted to ground, then I would disconnect the power supply from the rest of the boards in the circuit and plug the TV back in and check the VS and VA output voltages. If I recall correctly the power supply should auto-turn on for LG plasma models. Recheck your output voltages and make sure they are correct. Something else worth doing is checking to see if there are any bulging capacitors on the power supply board. I know for these older models this did happen a fair amount.

I have videos on the removal for the mainboard and the DPS board which I think you did find already as I see a commend on the DPS board removal from you. It's not that hard, you just have to be patient with the ribbons. Removing the ribbons is the only tricky part really.

Personally, I think Sony TVs are the best. I assume you are asking this because a lot of our videos maybe even a majority cover Sony TV repairs. The reason we have more videos for Sony repairs is that Sony sets are more expensive and nicer and thus are well worth fixing. They are also usually going to fail due to a component fault on the circuit boards whereas on other TV sets often the screen will fail making it impossible to fix. No facts, just opinions.

Most shops don't do component level repair since it's a lot faster to swap a board out then it is to replace components.
