@@DarkAttackYT a few things. I didn't grow up watching aliens. Didn't see them til I was an adult. Til last year actually. I just found 3 to be more interesting, and found aliens to be the corny one out of the first three. Maybe if I saw aliens in theatre the year it released I might like it more. But as it stands I just don't find it as interesting as the first or third
yes. in terms of inspiration. the devs gave credit where it was due and walked out with a great product that stood out on it's own with out having the issue of people just griping that its re4 in space.
Best game in the Dead Space Trilogy for me. It's not even that much of an "Action" game compare to 3, it still pulls off it's original survivor horror roots like the first game with a good balance of some action into it. 2's much more brutal and this time you care more about Isaac Clarke and his struggle for survival now that he can express more emotions and actually talks. Honestly, it's the best game for me, I love it.
Dead space 2 was the first I played in the series, still love it to death, Ive always enjoyed the first too, but I never really understood the hate two gets sometimes for not being a "horror" game. Even with the added action the game still has a few of the scariest moments in the series. The hud system is still really cool.
And let's not forget, my absolute favorite part of the game. When you finally, have your return to the U.S.G Ishimura. You enter that long corridor, when you're riding on the platform...and that slow, and creepy music starts to play...and then you see it, the large, and lurking hulk of the Ishimura's docking bay. And when I saw the words "U.S.G Ishimura" flickering in the darkness, it genuinely sent chills down my spine...wondering just what kind of horrors the game had waiting for me inside it's dark, and claustrophobic corridors this time. But, much to my surprise...this part of the game, doesn't throw hoards of Necromorphs at you...but instead, let's your anxiety build..with the horrifying audio logs from the clean up crew. All while being reminded, of what occurred there..and seeing reminders of it every where. From being forced to walk through the blood soaked corridors of the Medical Deck, or having to restore power to the Centrifuge again. I especially loved, the moment where Isaac, is riding up to the docking bay...and you can hear the nervousness in his voice..they definitely nailed the ghost ship vibe for sure.
i wound up playing DS:2 before DS:1, so i had no context (beside what DS:2 provides) but i felt like i had restarted the game! even knowing what had happened, the slow build up there made it feel so much like it was some sort of ancient fossil that had been unearthed had brought its demons back with it. Then, playing DS:1 afterword's, was earth shatteringly terrifying, because i recognized rooms, but only had the context of what they'd look like when i was done.
@@BigHailFan Oh, please. Dead Space 2 was a corridor shooter. DS1 at least gave you some leniency in the later levels to approach the challenges as you saw fit.
The red markers are built because of the signals sent out by the black markers, which are the ones that are found on planets and influence the creation of life and whatnot. Those signals could theoretically be harvested along with the other forms of energy emissions the markers create, but that's just a lure for civilizations to build more of them before the convergence event starts up, enough to get the kind of biomass needed to make a new brethren moon. The marker at the end of the game is one built on that scale for the scale of the emissions it produces, but it's not the only one on the station - they were being mass-produced, and they had a black marker in storage for studying which initially spread the insanity that allows one to build red markers, as Isaac's case happens to nearly everyone with enough intelligence to comprehend the messages. The unique bit about Isaac's is that he broke free of it and used his knowledge of the structures of the markers to destroy them instead (or in the case of DS1 escaped its hold by dropping a lot of stone on it). This game has some aspects of EA trying to step in and make it 'better' with their tried-and-false formulas, but Visceral pulled it back. DS3 is where EA succeeded, and it shows.
Yeh, although for some reason on the in-rail sections the classic aiming gets fucked, making it almost obligatory to switch to the "center" mode on those parts if you don't want to waste ammo and/or health
Everything people say that’s bad about Dead Space 2 is actually what’s wrong with Dead Space 3. 2 is a perfect sequel. Hell, even 3 was still a lot of fun, but it wasn’t Dead Space.
Yeah, the third game was a fun and enjoyable shooter (excluding the micro transactions of course and ) but a bad dead space game... Since I was playing co-op it was even more fun
For me it was the atmosphere. I had no problem with it being in the snow and the environments more open, fuck I didn’t mind it being even more action oriented than 2. It was that it just didn’t seem like they even tried to make it scary. It had its moments, only very VERY little. Wasn’t even disturbing and appeared with a major lack of inspiration which was horrible because it’s fucking DEAD SPACE. I’ve heard the arguments that “Issac isn’t afraid of what he’s facing anymore so neither is the player” I get it but it just didn’t feel like a Dead Space game really at all. The gameplay is still phenomenal and I think anyone can really have fun with it but to me I don’t consider it a real Dead Space game when looking at its entirety. It was just off. I did really dig the DLC though. Only a shame that it was the last installment.
One of the reasons I love Dead Space 2 so much is that it does almost nothing but build on the original game's content. They removed or fixed a lot of the bad aspects of the game and did nothing but build on everything else. The only thing I can think of from the original that isn't in DS2 is the Twitchers, and even then they show up in the Severed DLC. Even if you think 2 is less than 1 scary for some reason, from an objective standpoint it's the better game.
I think Dead Space 2 is miles ahead of Dead Space 1 in terms of gameplay. "But it's less horror", idk what to tell you but I found DS2 more tense than DS1. Both are great, but DS2 was imo way more enjoyable.
IDK, those chargers that scream when they run at you definitely freaked me out. I don't know why people shit on DS2. I like DS1 and DS2 equally. They both freak you out and challenge you to survive.
One weapon you'd ever need during crowd control and that is and forever will be the *Ripper* . The absolute best crowd-control ammo-saving weapon in DS1 and DS2.
@@AvalancheReviews I was the same way about the machine gun, hated it in DS1, and only used it for bosses when other ammo was scarce. It took playing the game with only the Plasma Cutter and one secondary weapon (rotating after a playthrough) to get a feel for each gun and its best parts/roles. Contact Beam, Machine Gun, and Flamethrower were the worst in my opinion (too limited or circumstantial), and the Javelin, the Plasma Cutter, and the Ripper were my favorites (able to work against most enemies without outside aid, and ammo efficient)..... Also, you can grab the saw blades of the ripper with kinesis while in flight, and yo-yoing that down a hall is amazing fun.
I was never happy with the performance of the ripper in either game. Didn’t feel like the shorts range was worth it and firing blades just made it a plasma cutter with less ammo capacity 🤔
Hopefully this series gets the same kind of attention that your RE and SH retrospective series' have gotten and you cover DS: Extraction and DS: Ignition. Those games are literally forgotten by the vast majority and it'd be great to actually see somebody cover them.
@@AvalancheReviews AWESOME to hear, this is why I came to the comments! I hope you see Extraction for what it is, I LOVED the game because of all the story gaps it fills in.
@@AvalancheReviews despite whatever opinions anyone might have on Jim Sterling I do think his contribution to classifying loot boxes as gambling were pretty good. Also I really enjoyed his outspoken attitude about workers' rights. Of course I don't always agree with his views but he does typically try to stray on the side of good. of course I don't actually know what you feel about him, it might have just been a joke.
I know it has been discussed million times before, but its amazing how this saga compares to Alien saga. Dead Space 1 felt like Alien (isolated, mysterius, slow paced and claustrophobic terror), Dead Space 2 felt exactly like Aliens (a worthy and excellent sequel that use the base to built a different- still horror but more “action” focused experience while also expanding the universe). And Dead Space 3, polemic and divisive just like Alien 3.
Careful, dude! You spend too long covering this series, EA will buy your RU-vid channel, make you add micro transactions to it, ruin everything that made it great and then close it down within a year!
I remember the ads for this game. Also, this is a game where you can kill kids!!!! I also really liked the school setting. As other people have pointed empty schools and universities are creepy as hell. You never know if your being watched by a janitor or worse.
Days Gone has zombie kids too and boy did the out of touch hack gaming media hate that Bend Studios included them. The school level in FEAR 2 is also pretty good too.
When Sterling said the advertising was playing to stereotypes, I think they meant exactly what you said: choosing the takes that fit a particular message (I believe you called said ”only using the spicier takes“)
So glad someone finally agrees with me on this. DS2 is a phenomenal game and, while I love the original, the sequel is the more intense, dynamic experience. The end of the trilogy, however...
Yeah, I was blown away. I just didn't think I was going to love it so much. I started it once a while ago and didn't feel like finishing it, but this time around I was loving every minute of it.
I don’t think Dead Space 3 was as terrible as everyone says. It is definitely flawed and it did abandon much of what the first two did so well, but I still enjoyed it.
@@clydemarshall8095 I'll give it to multiplayer thing where each of you has different hallucinations was a cool idea. But when you can custom build yourself a god tier super gun the necromorphs stop being scary. And then half the time you just fighting humans. As a generic run around and shoot enemies game it's fine and can be fun, it's just out of place in a series known for ambient creep wandering around feeling alone and overwhelmed hoping you survive.
Giving Isaac a voice was a great choice. Silent protagonist makes sense in games like Skyrim or Fallout. But in a linear story-driven game, it's just weird and pulls me out of the experience more than if a character does something stupid or has wonky writing.
THANK YOU. I'm so tired of the silent protagonist supposedly being more immersive. It _can_ be (as you said, text-style adventures ala Skyrim/Fallout), but I feel like the character that does it best is the Doom Slayer. He speaks through actions. Then you have games like Destiny 2 where it is totally negated by your Ghost basically being your own floating, disembodied set of vocal cords. It's like a movie. If they write the character well, you become so engrossed in being Isaac, him not having your voice is fine because you and Isaac are on the same page.
I personally liked Isaac when he was voiceless and when he never dropped his helmet. I like masked voiceless characters that show their character in other ways via body language, ect.
RPG with text based dialogue are not really silent. They are meant to be speaking. And often does have a voice, I don’t recall for Fallout 3+, but Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age Origin IceWind Dale, all had you pick a voice and the characters did have a few line they used when in combat or lockpicking a chest.
anything that being focus on inflicting pain to human face mostly a stuff of nightmares lol It was indeed very cringe horrifying when Isaac/player failed the lobotomy sequences.
Gotta say I love the Dead Space Games. I played DS1 about 6 times and DS2 and DS3 about 10 times each. DS2 is especially fun when you got that foam finger weapon :D
I did like 3 playthroughs before I realized the computer in the background gave info on the needle height to help you judge the insertion. Could've helped me avoid a lot of trauma. 😪
FireSpiderDC I feel those games are nowhere old enough to need it. I kinda hate the grand of remastering games who are barely a generation old. The only time I agree is when the games are broken mess, like Dragon Age Origin need one bad. But that’s an exception
@@oliviawilliams6204 Fuck that, I never got a PS3 or an XBOX 360 and I want to be able to play the Dead Space games. Put all 3 together as a remastered collection like they did with Uncharted.
@@WarDogMadness Yeah the snowy planet does bring a certain lost planet vibe, I think this is the best comparison I've ever seen regarding the third, it's a good fun co-op shooter but not a good dead space game
Going back aboard the Ishimura is my favorite gaming moment (10 min or so) in gaming: A broken man going back to the place it all started because he must. You were with him. And you are with him now. In this surreal, nightmarish, plastic wrapped (not unlike Isaac in his straightjacket), luminol smeared, reminder of what happened. And of what happens now. And so you go into the belly of the beast. Expecting a necromorph to jump out of the first vent. But they don't. You hear them in the vents, Nicole taunts you, the music is tense, but for a long time, there no immediate threat. Just dread and a bit of guilt. Just you and Isaac left to painfully remember the experience that was the original. Just a perfect representation of Isaac's mental state, presented as one of the greatest horror experiences one can go through.
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a caaaaaage- Seriously no one talks about that awesome trailer for the game? Dead Space 2 is how you do a proper survival horror sequel and I love it.
41:39 I just played Dead Space for the first time last week (in the middle of my second NG+ run to get achievements) and the thrill I just got in recognizing this room, despite the tarps and such was amazing!
I remember when I first saw my father play this game and how terrified I was. Yet I couldn't look away. For months after I was afraid something was gonna jump through a vent and murder me.
I remember playing Dead space 2 as a teenager. All my friends were too scared to play it but I loved it. Kinda reminds of Aliens, more action but without losing the horror.
So... last night was a TERRIBLE night as security officer.... during what little peace i had, i turned your DS1 review on.... How big a smile did i get after seeing this in my feed when i also got off 45 minutes late with no explanation as to why? It could break the ishimura itself with how big the smile was. God i love your reviews.
Finally I can relate with a comment 200% all the way. Being a security officer can be rough sometimes. I pull through the nights just watching all his videos .
@@elyonkris9999 he is so soft spoken yet so detailed with his videos. They can kill 20-60 minutes and not only keep you calm, but entertained and even captivated with the depth he goes into with each game, genre, etc. I can't describe how much i love his videos, even on games i have never played (silent hill)
I think the stingray only being able to infect corpses was put out as a theory/assumption by bystanders in the game because that’s just the relationship they shared, some infect corpses and others create corpses to infect was I think the exact line. If you think about it, the stingrays don’t really have any combat ability, so it makes sense that they CAN infect living people but it would be more of a risk maybe, much easier to grab a body that can’t fight back, and our guy got jumped from behind so that works out I think.
They are called infectors. And it is what is being infected into dead tissue that is transforming them. There is a microbe that is infected with a recombinant virus at work in an outbreak as well as the markers. In the same way that markers are are created this recombinant is also created. It's the means to translate the code that covers the markers. This recombinant is what was studied under project telomere and the subsequent project Oracle. So you have all of these infected corpses and organisms surrounding a marker at the same test sites and then boom, an outbreak occurs. The marker is what is fueling necromorphs. Much like we gain the energy to move from electron exchange from the food we eat, necromorphs gain their power/energy from the markers. The markers do not cause the mutations. I have videos on this topic. There is so much wrong information out there about dead space. The wiki and reddit's I never use. This is what causes the corruption. The recombinant gets to the point where it infects the dead tissue and skin cells in the air. In hydroponics in one they would have been using bacteria and fungus with the nutrients, the recombinant would have infected these organisms as well, the lack of oxygen kills the plants, the plant material becomes infected also.
Indeed, I also love Dead Space 2 a lot more. It's just an enthralling roller coaster exp, 3x much more intense than Dead Space. It's a totally balance Survival Horror that bordered in Action part.
Thank you!! I felt similar with this game. I love, LOVE the first entry. but the second just gave me more. more dismemberment, better control of Isaac, better shooting, better stasis use, better tele use, awesome set pieces, and just way creepier with the whole psychological thriller.
*Dead Space is to "Alien", as Dead Space 2 is to "Aliens"... The first is the haunted house in space, the second is more action based on a colony. Both are equally great! All depends on your preference.*
From someone who loves deadspace as much as the alien "trilogy" ( If you wanna add resurrection to the series...fight me), Deadspace, form the games and the movies involved (with the side games that sometimes weren't your standard horror games but still played along side the main series) from begging to end, even going from horror , to horror action, to action game . The entire series of Deadspace is a wonderful one that involves you with isaac Clark a name that went down in game history as a literal bad ass . "You destroyed one , you created one, and now we're here......" If you havent played because of whatever reason I suggest giving it a go .
Yes! Really glad you liked 'Dead space 2', Jarred. It's my favorite in the series. Never understood why people didn't like it as muce as the first one. Like you said, this game basically took almost every thing we loved from the first one and improved upon them, just like a good sequel should
I agree with you wholeheartedly, I absolutely love DS2. While I feel the original was a much scarier game, with the silent protagonist doing a fantastic job of putting you inside the game, the sequel had a far superior story, which IMO couldn't be done without a voiced protagonist, and more varied and aggressive combat. As far as your comment about why earthgov wanted the marker, this is largely covered in other media (particularly the movie Aftermath, which also introduced Nolan Strauss). Love the videos, and I hope you'll also get around to covering Extraction (a fantastic rail shooter with a great story), and the movies as well (Downfall was pretty good, Aftermath did a good job setting up 2, though wasn't exactly a great standalone film).
I absolutely will be covering Extraction, and I do plan on at least covering Aftermath. I'd like to talk about the motion comic too. I always liked it.
@@AvalancheReviews Awesome! Don't think I've seen the comic, that'll be something new! And don't let everyone get you down, DS3 really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Definitely find someone to play co-op with, though, that's where the game truly excells.
Hey buddy, Hope you're doing good, always fun to see another video from you, Hope the channel keeps growing! Kind regards from the cold north of Sweden!
Never thought I’d say this about a game but the little “on rails sections” like the tripod ripping its way through the collapsed corridor to get to you and your watching Isaac scramble away... then seamlessly your given control and have to fight it off... are some of my favorite parts of the game
I will never understand the hate this game gets. Dead Space 2 is a rare example of a sequel done right. It doesn't fix anything that's not broken, and improves on virtually every part of what made the first game great. The real tragedy here is that with consumers panning the game as another EA homogenization and the resulting poor sales, EA then really did bastardize the series with Dead Space 3 to make it more in line with popular trends.
My issue was mainly the difficulty, or more specifically the artificial difficulty. I thought the first game was much more evenly paced and balanced in terms of challenge. There were sections in this game where I got mobbed over and over and over again. And that achievement for beating it with 3 saves and no deaths? Forget it, that's nuts.
The same for me but with 3. I'll never understand the hate the game gets. Sometimes I think I played a different game from everyone else. Nobody panned number two, its widely regarded as being better than the first. Both 1 and 2, and even 3, ran over time and budget. They made okay money but not good money. EA wasnt responsible for the story or gameplay in any of the games, yes they would have pushed for micro transactions but the roll, cover system, all visceral. Visceral isn't just one person it's a team of over a hundred people, all with different ideas. The issue 2 and 3 had was the development teams had many different ideas for the games progression and they were again pushing the time envelope. EA would have pushed them to get a move on and decide. And what we got was what we got. Me personally, the third is my fav. I played all three games from one too three. I've completed all three games in a single life on their respective hardest settings, so impossible for 1, zealot for 2, and impossible for 3. All new games, no new game plus. I did this using basically the same weapons throughout. Plasma cutter, line gun, javelin gun. In 3 I used the force gun combo with the line gun with either the plasma cutter of javelin in tow. And 3 expanded on everything 1 and 2 offered. People complained about the combat is so many ways. Me? In my experience from watching multiple streams and gameplay videos, hardly anyone uses the games dismember mechanics to any real degree, which is why you have players picking combos like the pulse rifle and plasma cutter together, a silly combo from an ammo and capability standpoint. So the third game felt too hard, that the enemies were forced. I say none of those are true. 3 too me provided the best challenge of the 3. The story as well. I've said this loads of times, the same as the gameplay, hardly anyone has a real clue as to the lore of the games, and this leads to misunderstanding and just not very well thought out opinions. 3 is the real victim of the trilogy I'm my opinion.
Who hates this game? As far as I've seen this game had always been considered either on the same level or above the first Dead Space and everyone loved it, it also got great critical reception? I don't understand where this "hate" is coming from since I've only heard of it on this video
In my opinion, the biggest improvement over the first game is how the tutorials are implemented. In DS 1, the player was hammered bluntly with instructions on how to use equipment and how to cut off the limbs. In Dead Space 2, the tutorials are integrated very organically into gameplay.
This game was by far one of my favorite games from the 7th gen, it is almost as close to perfect even in today's standards to me, best in the trilogy that's for sure
When you decide to do a run of DS2 after 8 years, finish it and find that 2 days prior there is a brand new insanely well made retrospective accurate video on the game. Timing tier perfection. Naturally, you earned a sub my dude. Amazing content and detail.
It made me so glad to hear someone else take the piss out of him. I find him the worst kind of ironic seeing as he is constantly giving others shit for taking themselves to seriously, and uses his bullshit costume schtick as a smokescreen to distract from the fact that he takes himself EXTREMELY seriously.
Makes me ludicrously happy that you're getting to experience these games relatively fresh. DS 1-3 are masterpieces imo, even 3 to a degree due to how inspired it is by "The Thing"
3 is alot of fun and much better with a friend. A buddy and myself both pre ordered DS3 when we found out it was co op. We beat it many times over. Alot of fun. Miss that game.
@@christianhernandez9172 I recently ran through it again with my best friend, its definitely aged a bit worse than say 1 or 2 but I genuinely love it still. Just wish they didnt mess with the feel of some of the guns from 1 and 2. The Line gun just straight up sucks in DS3.
Surprised you were leaning towards this one more than one. DS2 has been my favorite of the trilogy since my first play through. Just getting swarmed is more frightening imo than the slow creep from the first game.
You are perhaps one of the most in-depth and entertaining game/movie review youtubers I have come across. I recently came across this channel and have been thoroughly enjoying every video I've watched thus far. You really do deserve more recognition, because this is great.
I know this isn't gonna get noticed, but my fiance was murdered shortly before deploying to Afghanistan and being able to play Dead Space 2 after some horrible days on patrol was super cathartic for me. Awesome job on the video.
Dead Space 1 and 2 are lauded as the best in the Franchise. I've never heard anyone criticize Dead Space 2 harshly. I love both games dearly. And I think 2 improved on a lot of the mechanics of 1.
Eh, the second F.E.A.R game has it's issues, as well as Condemned (the story, my God, what the hell were the writters of Monolith smoking) but they're not bad bad, more like if they got the 3rd game of both of them to notice those new shortcomings and then fix them, they could've produced awesome games. Still salty about F.3.A.R
You mentioning by the halfway point you were looking forward to whatever impossible situation you'd be put in next, makes me remember this game leaves me with one of my most exhilarating memories in a game. I remember right before that cinematic rocket dive Issac does into the station closer to the endgame, I was actually stuck with no ammo, and almost no health (like 1 or 2 hits and I'm gone). I was confronted with 3 ish then 4 necromorphs. I walked in and swung wildly and stomped around trying to survive just a bit longer. I managed it and when I realized I'd miraculously survived by the skin of my teeth I put the controller on the table and just kinda sunk in my chair, sighing in relief. That relief didn't last long, but long enough for a reprieve, and reach the shop 😅
Nice to see someone who liked Dead Space 2 as much as I did, never quite understood why exactly it doesn't get as much praise as the first one. It's arguably better than the original imo.
Non of the dead space games are bad, but its impossible to stay scary when we already know whats coming. That's why they went a more cosmic horror route in dead soace 3 because the fear factor was pretty much gone by the end of dead space 1. What made dead space 1 so scary was the unknown. We didn't know what to expect. Dead space 2 and onward was doomed to never live up to it because we already know what to expect. I think all 3 games are great, but dead space 1 is an actual classic where as the other 2 are nice follow ups to learn more about the markers.
I dont agree with you completly. The thing with ds 3 is that its just a shooter where you have a tonn of ammo and health packs always even on hardest difficulty, enemies are just pushing on you non stop in very big amount, so big that their bodies dissapear because engine cant keep that many bodies on screen. While in ds 2 i really had a hard time with ammo and health packs, game still had build up with enemies coming when you not wxpect it quite often.
@@Assassin21BEKA I agree that ds3 was definitely faster pace, but it didn't have the same dread that ds1 put in me. Ds2 was definitely scarier than 3, but still less than 1 just because I'm already familiar with the necromorphs. Like I said, I find all 3 great, but only the first dead space game you play will be "truly" scary, while the other 2 have great scares, but not the same impact as your first time ever. As far as ammo goes, I was actually more strapped for ammo than 1 or 2 when I was playing through 3 when I made this comment. Plenty of low ammo moments where I spent all my resources on crafting and buying ammo since all guns and gun types use the same ammo. If you are using optimal load outs then you might now have the same problem, but I was just playing for fun. Kind of like the dark souls affect. Only your first dark souls experience is truly great which is why there is such a divide between all the games.
After having binge watched your entire Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Silent Hill and Dead Space Retrospectives (so far), I think it's safe to say you're doing a few things right. Jokes aside: Solid work and a great way for me to catch up with some of the games I have missed out on for all those years!
I actually like that theres only like... 3 proper bosses in the whole game. The swarms of necromorphs making 'boss encounters' works way better for the setting and tone of the game.
The easy analog between Dead Space 2 and the original title is that if Dead Space was Alien, this is Aliens. Both games are among the best in both their genre as well as the entire generation, and picking a superior title between them may come down to personal preferences. I don't know that I've ever heard from anyone that didn't like this game overall, regardless of whether they held the first game in higher regard. This is a well-polished gem that no one who enjoys games should go without.
Hey Jared I know I’m about a year too late but I just wanted to say thanks for making this review. When I first played dead space 2 I didn’t really like it as I thought their was too much action and I kind of abused the checkpoint restart button as the first game didn’t have one. After I watch your review I bought the game a few months ago at a Halloween sale and I’m glad I did. I think after on my second playthrough I was able to appreciate things I didn’t before and ended up having a great time. All of this was down to your amazing review so thank you for encouraging me to give this game a second chance and an unforgettable experience
Replayed it recently, over and over again while ramping up the difficulty from Normal up to Zealot once every playthrough, after finishing that I've stuck with Survivalist, rocking the Heavy-Duty Vintage suit (You read that right, Advanced suit purists.) through and through with the Contact Beam, Rivet gun, Flamethrower and Ripper, easily one of the best sequels I've played in my life, each playthrough never got boring and you can bet future ones won't either. Brilliant review, loved every minute of it.
Seriously dead space means so much to me. I grew up in a super religious zelot kind of house and one day my uncle gave me all of his old games and dead space 1, 2, and 3. I had to play them in secret but wow they seriously showed me a whole new world of gaming. I know everyone hates ds 3 but all of the games are equal to me.
The graphics and visuals in Dead Space 2 still blow my mind. I was recently playing it on PC with 4k resolution and maxed out graphics settings, and the entire time I had to keep reminding myself that this game is from the PS3/Xbox360 era 13 years ago.
Awesome vid man keep it up👍, one thing tho. I feel like one of the most overlooked details in the Dead Space trilogy is Isaac's personal log. There were times that it gave you an inside look at Isaac's thoughts and opinions on his current task and situation he's in, as well as the the people around him. This is a really easy but cool characterization method in DS1 DS2 & DS3, Chapter 7 in DS1 where Issac had to go to the mining deck to put a distress beacon on an asteroid is a good example. In his personal log he states that he knew some of the men who worked there before they were killed, and is heartbroken that they're all dead. Chapter 13 in DS2 Issac states he doesn't want Ellie to be another casualty which is likely to happen the longer she's stays with him, and that she can't help him actually destroy the Marker since he's not even sure if he can do it.
No, but to be honest, I only died like 3 times my entire playthrough of 1. So I didn't really get to see many. Part 2 had me dying once every 10 steps.
There is a text log towards the end of the game where a scientist theorises that the Marker can affect people in certain ways: 1)On more sophisticated brains it can give them some form of understanding how it work and being able to replicate itself as we see on Isaac being used to create a new one in Dead Space 2 and 2)On less sophisticated brains it drives them mad thus allowing the marker to do its thing and create the Convergence so basically The Marker will do anything to serve its purpose
2 was a nearly perfect game, hopefully remasters are coming soon. Felt like a perfect blend of action and horror, and it has some of my all time favorite game weapons as well. Also the graphics were some of the best I’d seen at the time.
Dead Space 2 is good but kind of in Re4 way. It's horror themed action. I greatly prefer the first one. I prefer the solitude and not having a voice for Isaac. I almost always prefer mute protagonists in horror.
Dead Space 2 is definitely amazing and such a beauty, probably didn't got meddle by ea even so.. It is definitely the upgrade the original needed. But Dead Space 1 still, makes me so nervous every second, literally.. Gotta love that Event Horizon influence.
Dead Space is one my favorite horror games. Dead Space 2 is just as good. I was shocked when you said it was a commercial failure - I was under the assumption is did very well considering how excellent it was and why we got Dead Space 3.
Got a bad feeling that your Dead Space 3 retrospective won't be nearly as positive, but you'll cross that bridge when you get to it. As for Dead Space 2, its truly one of the best games of last gen, absolute masterclass. I'm always down to hear more singing of its praises.
When I bought my PS3 in 2016 I got Dead Space 1, 2 and 3 at the same time and marathoned these games like crazy. I think I played Dead Space 2 three or four times before moving on to Dead Space 3 just because I was having that much fun with it. Returning to the Ishimura is incredibly creepy with all the clean up equipment and black lights lying around everywhere and my favorite set piece in the series outside of the opening to Extraction.
Hey Jared, will you cover the echo night, white day (2001 and remake) or the suffering 1 and 2. I think these are some horror games that deserves your honest analysis. Also, like always, loved your video, your only seem to get better by every upload.
@@AvalancheReviews I don't want to force anything on you, but I believe white day (the 2001 original that is) is a game that you as a silent hill/RE fan should play atleast once. Yeah, it is supernatural horror instead of action horror of RE or psychological horror of Silent Hill, but if you really want a different take on the formula, you should really explore this game. The 2001 original that is, I don't know if I can say the same thing about the 2017 mobile remake.
Thank God someone else thinks Jim Sterling is a veritable bull shit spout. It's almost impossible to be critical of him without his fanbase insisting you just "don't get it"
Dead Space 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, & my favourite Dead Space. I appreciate how the gameplay is a lot less forgiving, & improved. Visceral really upped their game, with this title.
A trick i learned in dealing with the pukers is that if timed right, you can grab their spit mid air and throw it right back at them. Its an insta kill regardless of which type of puker it is
About the big sub boss monster that launches at you: You can avoid a hit. You just have to stop aiming and ran backwards(with LB or L2 pressed). Thats basically it. Isaac can facing down an enemy and running in the opposite direction. I just got hit once by this enemy and that wasnt even the launch-attack. But i really love the game too. Not as much as the first, but after the "EA wants mor action"-scare, the game really got it going.
I'm in the middle of house and I have no internet at the moment, besides at my local coffee place, so I downloaded both dead space videos to keep me not bored during the night. Excellent work as always! Trust me, you're not alone, Dead Space 2 is a fantastic game! Can't wait for more videos but I do wonder about one thing, are you going to cover the story DLC, Dead Space 2: Severed, on a later video?
Dead Space 2 is amazing. I absolutely love the first game, but 2 really does improve the series in almost every way. It truly is the RE2 of the Dead Space franchise.
In regards to Franco getting turned (the guy who Isaac wakes up to) there's a reason the infector jabbed him through the chest first before the head. When the infector impaled him through the chest first, it pretty much killed him right there. Following it up with injecting the material into his head was able to super speed the process.
This game plays so well on Zealot. The combat is so smooth and telekinesis impalement is a genius addition. Also, the game doesnt tell you this but the long range spit ball that pukers shoot at you can be caught with kinesis, and then shot back at any enemy for an instant kill. This goes for Dead Space 3 as well, if you're playing that right now.
"Stick around, I'm full of bad ideas." - Isaac Clarke I had a few friends that absolutely HATED that quote, but I think it works. I see it as a way of Isaac trying to keep a level head when everythings falling apart plus the hallucinations (again). What amazes me is how he basically told his dementia to fuck off by the end of the game.
26:50 I never realized this only because I was so traumatized by Dead Space 1 that after downing enemies I'd immediately break off all their limbs to ensure that they didn't reanimate.
