After finally hearing the whole story of Martyr, there are a ton of similarities between Michael and Isaac. Both hated unitology, had a high resistance to the Marker's influence, lost their girlfriends to an outbreak, saved millions of lives by ending events that would have left humanity extinct, and if we assume that DS3 Awakened was really the end of Isaac, both of these heroes died in the most dire and humiliating ways.
It is theorized that Altman is Isaac Clarke reincarnated. Obviously this is a far reached theory but think about it. Lots of clones and look a likes exist today.
I read a lot of of video game tie-in novels and Martyr is one that manage to be more than just work-for-hire. It was excellent. I could tell the writer put a lot of effort into characters, the world, and the atmosphere. It's a shame he didn't write more.
Hello @TheBritishRunner ! I hope you are doing amazing today. And I much enjoyed seeing a new video by you. You might not remember me (and it’s fine if you don’t), but just in case, I was part of your Long Dark livestream chat about 5 days ago who talked about a book I was working on. If this comment reaches you at a good time, I was thinking about writing a short story to tie into the main novel I’m working on. The reason for this is because I know it will take some time to write the main novel and a short story I feel is a good way of introducing people (yourself in this case) to the universe and setting of the novel before the full horrors of the main novel are unleashed, and to hopefully grow a bit of anticipation as I work on it. And I was wondering if you’d like to try the short story out. The Short Story would be a 1st person (whereas the main novel would be 3rd person) account of events leading up to the investigation of Aliterra from the perspective of a former Imperial Special Forces Soldier, turned Insurgent operative as he is preparing to join the voyage to Aliterra undercover and in his notes explain the mission that lead to Aliterra’s discovery by the Insurgents. It is okay if you say no for any reason. But if yes, than I will schedule myself to work on the short story to try and finish it either this week or the next (for qualities sake). Again great video, and I hope to possibly hear from you. Have an amazing day mate X3
the fact we find a star ship graveyard full of mummified necromorphs, imagine discovering the same thing in the bottom of the ocean on earth, like realizing how close the danger is
I wish there was more Dead Space novels that could really flesh out the world and the characters in the franchise. Even if the video games are no more, more media adaptation about Dead Space series would still be cool.
Poor Altman he wanted to stop the marker and contain the necromorph outbreaks yet he was forced into being a martyr for a religion he despised. Having to die knowing that those bastards would call him the prophet of this insane religious belief, and he could do nothing about it. Really awesome book that gives us an explanation to what actually happened with the discovery of the black marker on earth and how Altman wanted no parts in unitology at all.
I wonder what was with Istvan, he seemed to have Marker influence already however he wasn’t near one from what I can tell… it is said the Marker induces a bunch of things like paranoia and insanity so I guess it’s safe to assume he was suffering from that through other means and the Marker either made it worse or fed on it in some way
Far-off future: Necromorphs violently slaughter everything in sight with futile resistance for human survival Mexico: Kid casually lights Necromorph on fire, town celebrates, and town drunk gets pissed that his whiskey was ruined
It seems that the markers cannot be defeated. They play a long game that takes millions of years just to get a species to do their bidding. In true Cosmic horror fashion, you may prevent, delay but you cannot stop the ultimate destruction. Maybe a species of machines like Skynet terminators could fare better perhaps even destroy the Necro morphs or worse evolve and become inorganic cosmic beings like Reapers by converging the machines
One thing i think people forget is that the marker or whatever science mambo jambo, the thing is a master manipulator through the manipulation of the senses and memory. Deception plays a big role on the Ds universe.
If you ask me EA not continuing the Dead Space Expanded Universe is such a waste. I mean theirs enough lore to make multiple tie-in novels/comics for continuing Dead Space universe.
From the start in Catalyst, Istvan seems to have been "chosen" by the Marker to be its catalyst, it seems weird to me because he is still very far away from Aspera Was Aspera's marker already built when Istvan was little and already had his visions ? And also the influence of that marker has an immense scope, perhaps a marker can concentrate its signal on a single person (or rather a place) and therefore increase its range, instead of emitting it all over a radius. And so at that moment the person most sensitive to the marker signal (here Istvan) would be manipulated to get closer to the marker 🤔 Otherwise a spin-off game on Martyr or Catalyst could be great, imagine playing as Altman or Jensi and relive the events of the first outbreak on Earth or the events of Aspera 😳
@@TheBritishRunner Sounds more consistent to me yes, but I guess all the crazies aren't routinely sent to Aspera, there must have been something that caused Istvan to be sent there and it's probably related to the marker I wanna read the book now, I think I'll order it
@@HuskySansVergogne Aspera has a penal colony and prisons. Istvan broke the law by killing a politician/councilman which is a big deal. So Aspera would have been the perfect place to send him to.
How you spelled Istvan (István) was pretty funny to me (in a good way of course!). 😂😂 Its alright though you are not Hungarian to be aware The video was great, as always. And also got me into the mood to start reading Martyr
Tried it but costs money to do what's normally free on here like upload videos, change design of video thumbnails or channel art or logo so definitely not for me. But I hear plenty of youtubers are enjoying it when their audience is colossal.
@@TheBritishRunner Bitchute is free even if it can be a hassle from time to time. I don't really upload there but if you're looking to just back some stuff up it seems like a good bet.
I hate how series buff things Dead space 1: took a month or two- but already had necromorph biomass on site to make things Dead space martyr: gives codes to necromorph DNA, buffs the slashers into being infectors (I always thought the slasher would split into a leaper and the lower half into a infector) Dead space 2: can have hallucinations force objects onto people… we can see a lab was busted with what was inside a tank escaping- probably how the outbreak started outside of the frozen bodies being altered in the church, and the mass played unmatching in the mines. Catalyst: can straight up hold people in place, but necromorphs don’t spawn instantly and can even grow in habitats with humans Dead space liberation: marker= undead bombs Dead space 3: markers are now bombs and ammo against gods Dead space extraction: psychic bomb for those few in range, necromorphs go ham with building inside the depths of the ship- amazing! Dead space downfall: slow decline of mental state, necromorph origins not explained (but same as the game I guess) they build larger forms. Dead space aftermath: marker are undead bombs.
