Hi 👋 congratulations on ur 💯 subscribers!! I’ve read Deadhouse gate by Steven Erikson it was 4 stars ✨ for me! Thank you for the review! Happy reading to you!! 🦋🍂🍃
I’m sorry I’m so late to this review! You are such a great Malazan guide-I love the way you broke down the storylines. The new setting a huge new cast of characters completely threw me off after reading Gardens of the Moon. I had some struggles finding a flow with this story until the end, but then I kept thinking about it for months. Plus the way this ties into the rest of the series is just brilliant! Your reflections here make me so excited to reread this someday!
Thanks Johanna. 🙂 Yeah, they’re definitely worth a re-read. The first time, I went through them pretty fast, without much time to think, and now that I know what I know, I’m getting so much more out of them! 😀👌🏻
As I said on Twitter, I love this book so much, it's been highly influential in my writing and reading journey. The Felisin/Baudin arc and the ending brought out more emotion in me than any other fantasy book I've ever read. I am planning to reread them this next year and finishing the series. I started them in college (10 years ago) and got through House of Chains.
I am not sure how much military history Erickson has read but the camping scenes, which others find boring, are spot on. Soldiers at Anzio did have scorpion fights and mule races out of boredom for example.
I have a funny feeling that archaeology campsites may have played a part in making the soldiers being bored in the middle of nowhere scenes feel more real.
Hard to add but... I'm at book 7 with my first read (thanks mike reads) but that is stalled, I'm near the end of deadhouse with a re read which is so much better. Can you slow down :)
