Black Hills are so beautiful,no wonder the Indians fought so hard to keep it. You guys are an awesome couple, your videos are the next best thing to being there !
@Conway Twitter You won't regret it but property's gettin expensive 'the Coloradan's' are movin in and prices are goin up. Bro just bought 2 acre lot with water & power to line just outside Deadwood; $150K!
@Conway Twitter Im on the eastern side of SD and visited the black hills countless times, its awesome here but the winters hit way below negatives and the summers go above 100 degrees 😂

"And don't forget the joker "Pushing up the ante I know you got to see me Read 'em and weep The dead man's hand again! "I see it in your eyes Take one look and die The only thing you see You know it's gonna be "The Ace of Spades The Ace of Spades" "Ace Of Spades" by Motöhead RIP Lemmy
Hello Lord Spoda. Deadwood, the logical sequel to your Sturgis video yesterday. What is good with you is that there is always a moment when we drink a little shot of Jack's in a very nice place.....we shouldn't meet, it would end up in a cure for whiskey , ah ah !
I’m in Deadwood/Lead area now. Girlfriend is from here. You missed a lot of history and places, like Homestake mine. Largest gold taken in America for 123 years. Plus all the natural beauty outside Deadwood, creeks and simply amazing trails. Can’t see everything though, I get it. Maybe next time By the way, much of the history in Deadwood is fabricated for tourism. Calamity Jane was buried next to wild bill as a rub on him, not her dying wish, Lol! I’m spending time to gold hunt and find the real history as much as I can, and it’s a beautiful journey of discovery here 👌
Can’t hit everything but hey thanks for adding.. sounds like a really cool place. I want to go. Cemetery is totally cool. Have they ever burned down? Not sure why I asked? The downtown is cute.
Awesome video. Love Deadwood. Iconic Old West. However, the "aces and eights dead man's hand" is a myth started in 1929 by a writer who wanted to gain fame by perpetuating a myth. Truth is, when Wild Bill was shot, the cards he was holding flew out of his hands, and since everyone was concerned for him, no one cared what cards he had been holding. The bartended later scooped up all the cards, including the ones held by the other players at the table, and the cards were all mixed in together. So the truth is that yes, whatever cards Wild Bill was holding was definitely a "dead man's hand", but the "aces and eights" is a totally made-up myth.
Except the Little Bighorn Battlefield on a day when you can feel the spirits still there, no place else comes close to Deadwood as a trip back to the Old West. Lovely video, thanks. Eh, from Calgary.
I'm thinking of one day flying into Denver, then renting a vehicle to drive up to western South Dakota to see Mt Rushmore and Deadwood area, so I'm looking out for some US-85 footage on the way to Cheyenne.
If you’re still there you have to have breakfast at the Lee Street Station cafe! Best food and the owners are a fun time! Be careful! Might leave there pretty tipsy!
Many thanks to both of you for all your excellent videos showing the real America. I live in England and many years ago worked with a man called Joseph Rosa in an office in London. He was a world authority on Wild Bill Hickok and wrote a number of books about him (I have them all, signed by him too!). On a holiday with a group of friends in the early 1990s I asked that we visit Deadwood so that I coud visit the town to see where he was shot and killed, and buried.
Thank you for doing these we recently moved to SD from TX and so it’s a huge cultural shock. It’s funny because in the town I’m in my family is 3 of the the 8 African Americans so we get stared at A LOT! But I’m glad you are doing these because they give me insight on things to do!
Dead wood is still pretty well a law less town and prostitution is still a thing that goes around still a lot in dead wood it's one of the things there known for and gold and hickcock had he always faced towards a his back towards the wall one day he had his back towards the door he had got shot and not so far is mount moria and it's wear a lot of my family is burryed and my last name is Murraine and that's all I will say and right know I am a 13 year old and I could go in some of them bars and just buy alcahal and that's what is funny I had my 3 ever drink of wiskie in dead wood my first and second was when I was 2 and 3 and my dad had let me drink some so I wouldn't be a acahaloc and if you look a bit you will find several of my descendants graves going to my great grandmother and grandfather and back to some of the Lakota witch I am part Lakotan
SOoo... Let me get this straight, when there's only beer & wine she wants whiskey. But when there's only water she wants beer! And us guys are supposed to know what a woman wants? Otay...
President Grant sorely wanted to make peace with the Indians. He had a treaty drawn up at the beginning of his term giving the Indians the Black Hills. Then, a recession occurred. The U.S. needed gold badly. Grant sent Custer in to investigate, telling him if he found anything to keep quiet. Custer found gold and let eastern news papers know about it before Grant.
I actually stayed in the bullock hotel because it was haunted. Even stayed in the very room where Seth bullock died. Also went on a ghost tour of the Fairmont hotel across the street and visited the historic saloon number 10. Also went to the Adam's house. All four locations were on a TV show called ghost adventures. The episode was titled ghost adventures halloween special: deadwood city of ghosts
When I was in Washington visiting my son I took the day out and drove a couple hours away to where they filmed Northern Exposure which was supposed to be a town in the boondocks in middle Alaska. I mean I recognized everything right away and they still have the radio station in the window that you could look at with the old, old, old radio equipment, the General store and I had lunch at The Brick which looks a lot different than the TV show inside, the outside look the same. I was able to get something off my bucket list because I love that show, maybe one day you’ll make it there if you haven’t already. The town was Roslyn, Washington
I went through Deadwood in 1996, on a bus tour between Salt Lake City to Denver, Co.! Then, Kevin Costner's brother owned a small casino there & his manager took my wife & I, to the attic, where he showed us the costumes Kevin wore in the "Untouchables", "Field of Dreams", etc. We also went to "Wild Bill" & "Calamity Jane's" gravesite, but they only had 'temporary' signs! The town looks bigger than I remembered! Great video!
Thank you for making this video. My family and I were visiting that same day! How exciting to be able to see my family in the background at 7:45 minutes into your video. My kids had saw you and your wife and the first thing they said, "mom i think he's a famous RU-vidr" Blessing to you both, may Father God grant you both more adventures.
I'm watching this video in Sept 2024 and have spent many vacations around South Dakota. I didn't hear any of your statistical information while you were in these parts. Any reason you didn't tell us the great info you usually do? We enjoy your videos a lot!
We are planning a road trip to Yellowstone and Grand Canyon this summer. Already have reservations there, but still need to plan our trip out there and back. How you do find your hotels and book them? Any particular website you prefer?
You went into Saloon #10 but didn't go to the back where the table is that Wild Bill Hickock was shot and the door that Jack McCall came through??? That's the main reason to go in there.
I saw it in the middle seventy's before it burnt down the last time . Doesnt look at all as it did with wooden buildings and boardwalks . The brothel was open and the ladys were very nice but my wife said that was enough Lol . Thanks for the look see . . . T/C/E
something about that part of the country i live in the mid atlantic part of the country and rarely do you meet someone from the dakotas montana that area it must be a great place but you can have it wouldn't go on your dollar
Hey Spoda...Deadwood S.D...man,I've always wanted to visit Deadwood, actually I've always wanted to visit that whole area of western South Dakota...and it's interesting seeing all the bikes etc, when you think of Sturgis you don't really think about everywhere else that's close to Sturgis also being effected but it makes sense considering Sturgis is a town of 7000 and it swells up to 700,000+ for the bike rally so those folks have gotta go somewhere as Sturgis can't hold em' all so it completely makes sense for em' to invade rapid city as well as deadwood and all points between etc...I loved seeing the town of Deadwood as well as the cool bikes...cool video brother!
Like your music choice. Reminds me of that series about building the railroad west, with Anson Mount and Common, can't think of the name of it right now.
We have the same problem with bikes here in Gettysburg. It’s cool to see how well the HBO did in some ways and how they strayed. Great video. Thanks for sharing
Can’t wait for you to visit the Yellowstone region and hopefully you visit my town of Idaho Falls ID. It’s not a big city but definitely the biggest city closest to the Tetons and Yellowstone. It’s kind of a regional hub of Eastern Idaho and Western Wyoming.
I've been to Idaho Falls several times. It is a beautiful little city. We may be able to get there on this trip - if not, it'll be in a couple months. :)
Yes, unfortunately the historic Deadwood wasn't kept seperate from modern times. Just as Virginia City Nevada wasn't protected But I appreciate you two covering the historic past and there are certainly interesting places in Deadwood. The Montana Virginia City, Nevada City, Bannock City, and Garnett are very well preserved and kept like they were in the "old days"
I live nearby in the bigger city. While cool, after the novelty wears off, I don't know what locals would do in Deadwood for a pastime ? Same with Lead, or any other small town in the hills. Sure there's the hills, but what else ? Things are declining in Rapid as well. Tourism down.
