@@LK-bz9sk lmao you poors can rally all you want, biden lied to you. inflation is real and your money is worth considerably less thanks to it. auto sales have gone up in 2023 and 2024, everyone else is making more money while you're whining about how poor you are, pathetic.
@@m14lvr Dealerships only have themselves to blame for destroying their reputations and gouging customers. Car makers can get by with fleet sales so it's really the dealers that are in the biggest trouble. Dealers are making less because now they can't get away with dealer mark-ups and at this point consumers aren't willing to buy unless they get cars BELOW MSRP! It may go deeper but dealers are in their own self-induced trouble.
They will never stop doing that. That’s the whole idea of capitalism they haven’t abandoned that. If they aren’t doing that as much now it’s so they can pick it back up in the future
I bought a 2000 Toyota 4Runner w/37,000 miles in like new condition at Manheim Auto Auction in Anaheim, CA. I was literally bidding against one of the largest Toyota dealerships in the country. Their rep was disgusted when I won the auction at $13,500. I put 250k miles on that truck and sold it for $6,500 in 2013. Best vehicle I ever owned.
Dumping them? Where? You can see Jeep, Ram, Nissan, Ford, etc with old 2023 vehicles and still asking ridiculous amounts of money. Like a Dodge Ram for $55,000? Crazy
I got mail today from the local Toyota dealer wanting to see if I want to trade in my 1999 Toyota. Remember years ago when dealers weren’t even interested in a vehicle over 5 years old?
@@geraldh.6686that was the golden era for selling used cars. I was offered $11k usd for my 2014 honda accord coupe 150,398 miles. In jan 2024 carvana offered $4200.00 with 161,200 miles.
I have a 2003 Ford sport trac and the middle console leather deteriorated just as you showed on the Toyota. I purchased a .piece of leather online, matching exactly the grey in my truck for "drum roll please" , $3. Yes $3. It covered the whole console (so easy taking it apart and removing the old one) and I did it in less than 5 minutes. Makes a world of difference to my elbow 🙂 and the "Look". It is now more shabby chic!
It the catastrophic colapse of the car and truck market there's no coming back from this. Its over its done, its nightmare, dealers ,are going bankrupt, Jeep is selling their inventory for $15 dollars for two .
I hate to break it to you but if you put a couple slices of bread into a dubious Fiat 500 toaster most likely it will come out totally burnt. And the reason why dealerships are dumping Jeeps is becuase they are nothing but headaches from customers who keep bringing them back to the dealer due to a myriad of defects and breakdowns that plague these flimsy vehicles.
Too many electronics and doodads on them to mess up..but not flimsy..they are far less flimsy than most non-truck vehicles on the road, at least they have real rails, real axles, real bumpers hiding behind the plastic covers..not just a huge hunk of unsupported plastic on the front AND rear snapped on with plastic fasteners, like most vehicles....
I won't buy any vehicle that has been "modified"like that...stock ones only. People put all kinds of tacky things on Jeeps for some reason...IMHO, those "angry face" grill/headlight modifications are one of the worst....
Yeah, I cringed. 4R with >100k miles, it being a recent model is the only thing going for it, and they just allowed it to rot for another week because $24k wasn't enough.
I have a 20-year-old Volvo with over 260,000 miles on it. I paid $4,000 for the vehicle and already put 60,000 miles on it the only things I've replaced is spark plugs and engine coil packs. The car is flawless and if somebody's shopping cart hits it in the parking lot I don't give a damn lol
I'm with you! Still driving my 2001 V70 T5 that just rolled over to 180k. Get asked about it quite often. Turn my own wrenches and recently the soldering iron to replace the two electrolytic capacitors on the ECM board, one of which had gone bad and was causing driveabilty issues. The Driver Information system let me know there was a problem as those capacitors stabilize the voltage on the board. Many more miles to you and me!
I think what happened with the 4Runner was the buyer realized he way overbid for 107k miles at 24k and then decided to not complete the sale. He was probably thanking God the seller wouldn't move at 25k. I've seen similar 4Runners with less miles sell at dealerships for less than the bid that Buyer put in. He would have way overpaid. Should be sold at about 21k.
Auctions are a scam, the seller can aways back away from the sell! What’s the point of taking car to the auction. If that’s how it works then they should start with lowest price the seller will take and go from there !
I thought he was being sarcastic. Very dry humor. NOBODY was going to buy that at a lot. Eaten away handles, chewed up seats, etc. Dashboard held together with fluorescent tape. What else is in bad shape under the hood?
Actually the banks aren't getting paid back so they stopped lending and do a lot more due diligence. That means the money stopped slushing around so people can't just pay double any more. Huge discounts are coming.
I remember those, "old, old, old" jeeps. We used that body style in the 1960s through the 1980s, probably into the '90s. I was in the U.S. Army back then.
Yep, same jeeps I was driving in the Army in the early 1980s. The Humvees began to appear (but only Batallion Commanders and such had them) when I ETS-ed in late 1985. We were still issued Viet Nam and Korea era 1911s and M-16s and M-60s. Good times! LOL! (in retrospect).
I don’t know what kind of sick person leaves a car with a leaky water pump running like that. Also they are trying to sell that 4Runner for pretty much dealer lot price in a auction, what the heck are these people thinking
You notice you don't see any Ford Crown Vics, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Cars at these auctions after being out of production 13 years? THEY WERE GOOD CARS! Not this garbage nobody wants.
A lot of these cars are at end of life with 350K+ miles. Ford only sold the Crown Victoria to fleet after 2007 and you had the buy the more expensive Town Car or Grand Marquis from 2008-2011. Plus I’m sure dealers will have no trouble finding buyers for these cars hence no need for auction.
I’d rather drive an old cheap car. Because then u don’t worry about scratches and where u park, and I love to park right next to people that live to park in two spots
Oh you guys just don't know anything.. Fiats in my country are cheap and have one of the best engines that last forever, especially diesel ones.. you just go ahead and pump that greedy system, and pay tons of money for those thirsty buckets.
I have a 2010 JKUR Rubicon, 55k miles. In decent shape in my area it goes for $20k to $23k easy. Jeep Sport or Sahara models get lifted and look like the more valuable Rubicons. Sport $35k new/ Rubicon $55k new. I’m nervous about buying used Jeeps: rear main seal, front crank seal, electronics, user stupid abuse, user improper lift/ gear ratios, transmissions, lifters. I’m thankful my 2010 still runs flawlessly but I’m thinking of selling it and buying a full TRD Pro Tacoma, lift it and never look back. Oh yeah: Jeeps LEAK. Roof panels leaks are a pain.
Ford and GM will follow Mercedes, BMW, Tesla and Honda where the inventory is owned by the manufacturer and the price is fixed. They get a commission, delivery fee and servicing.
I enjoy your videos, my 90 year old mother gave me her 2008 Impala 3.5 litre sedan with only 52,000 miles. Runs great. I live in Canada and cars here rot out. Mother's car nev er saw winter and was stored in a garage, like new. I really enjoy the videos on the car market as it's so messed up, Cheers!
I just bought a 2000 Lincoln Town car with only 70,000 miles for only $3,000, elderly owned, a private seller with a clean title. If that was a dealer, they would probably charge around $8,000-$10,000+ for that same car. I just saw a 2002 mercury grand marquis at a dealership, trying to sell for $10,000 which is a lower valued car. That dealer was so desperate to sell it to me. He even said that he would pay the dock fee. I said to him, "nah" "good luck!"
If these dealers know they are going to lose some money or just not make much profit why don’t they just sell it on their lot for a reduced price instead of hauling it to an auction and losing money or not even sell it?
I had a 1993 Lexus LS400 that I sold a couple years ago and it had 201,000 miles and everything on that car worked except for the retractable antenna. It was a beast of a car!!
I think those retractable antennas will always have a limited life span. I had replaced mine on my 1995 Integra and it stopped working a few years later again.
My former boss had a 4Runner that she kept until it hit about 430,000 miles. Granted, she had to put a new transmission in it at a little over 200,000 miles. She ended up selling it for $6k then bought a brand new one LOL
I live in Vegas and although we don’t have rust issues, the heat is so extreme it wears out components easily. Plan on a new battery once a year if you are lucky 2 years
I have a 1987 Toyota 4runner. it was my 16th Birthday present and i still have it and it still drives just like it used to. Everything is original and not one seat tear. The A/C just quit. That’s the first thing that has broken in over 10 years. there’s nothing built like that today anywhere.
6:08 I had a coworker who said his wife wanted a newer car(the car was old, I had seen it) he was saying "nah, we'll just put some rims on". I had a very difficult time keeping a straight face 😂. I was thinking, how is that going to make it better?😅
You do realize that cash for clunkers was over 10 years ago and lasted, funding, for less than year there have been multiple generations of new vehicles to replace the aging car market
Jeep is on the nose with customers world wide. Everyone has either been burned or heard stories from friends of them being burned by their dodgey vehicles and appalling after sales "service".
Had a neighbor bring his jeep by, asking what I thought. I turned it over and heard the engine knocking hard. I said "You're engine is toast!" He was like, Yeah.. I kinda thought that. LOL. He LOVED those jeeps! Had two or three of them.
Very good points at the end of the video about the RUST ,I was wondering like who the heck buying these old beat up Cars ,but after u explain it ,make sense 😅
After retirement my father drove cars part time for a large used dealer that had several locations. They would just drive good used from auction into the rust belt where they would fetch a premium.
ONLY problem with that 4Runner is it had the 3VZ (3.0L V6). In the standards of the world in general it's... not the worst thing ever, buuuut it's not great. It's a pain in the ass to work on, horrifically low on power for the size/weight/fuel consumption, loves to break things that are a pain to replace on it and leaks oil like it's trying to make a James Bond smokescreen.
I recall asking the question decades ago when our government ‘waged war’ on our manufacturing infrastructure and middle income earners: “Who are the OEMs going to sell their products to after most of the jobs head out of the country?”
I saw someone today get an absolute score on a 2000 GMC sierra , it had 77 000 miles and in mint condition, he got it on facebook market place for $1500. It had a broken brake line, otherwise as nice as can be.
Dealers near me haven't lowered prices in a couple years. Ive paid off my truck. I want something newer i am not going to pay the ridiculous prices they are asking.
I want a new car without any computers in it, not even fuel injection; standard transmission, manual brakes and manual steering but no; there is nothing like this.
When are we going to start seeing significant price drops though? I've been watching your channel and Car Edge for years and the "bubble" doesn't seem to ever burst. I've been shopping for a Ram 1500 since before the pandemic when it was about $38k and have basically waited them out for almost 5 years. So much that I've saved enough to basically buy it cash at the old price now. I want the truck, but I don't need it and I'm sure as hell not buying in for $60k.
The kind of money people want for very high mileage cars today is absolutely insane. They are all trying to convince some sucker that cars don't wear out any more. No thank you!
6:47 no the most common issues with them are the water pump and the alternator. If you don’t count of course the oil consumption issues). Literally have replaced like 2 coils over the years but I’ve replaced probably 20-30 water pumps and alternators in the same amount of time.
if people in the salt belt would actually spray the salt off their vehicles once the roads dry, they wouldnt have such a problem with rust.but most are too cold or lazy to do so.
My foot - I’m seeing delivery charges on stickers for additional $1,500, packages charges and premium up-charges on lots full of 2023 units. I’ll wait till the nonsense stops before upgrading.
That jeep was a real turkey - fake blue “4XE” tow hooks, aftermarket leather - a bastardized base Sport from 6 years ago is unsellable on a dealer lot. That was a generous trade-in for a new lease, I’m sure of it.
Dealers & the UAW have really painted themselves into a corner. About 30 years ago I read an article in Ward's Auto world that the day would come when Factories would over produce & refinements in material, quality & reliability would cause vehicles to last almost forever. The only reason you would sell your vehicle is that you were tired of it & wanted something else. I'm not tired of my 15 year old car & will keep it forever.
Philly Navy Yard lot is filled to the brim with brand new cars. They even had to put up new fencing up in the overflow lot to protect the non moving inventory. Most filled I’ve ever seen it.
Those old Toyotas are tanks. Friend of mine still has his 94' Camry that he drove through college while he was in grad school. 400k+ miles and he kept it just for fun. Sits in his garage and still runs when he wants to take it out. I think the only thing that eventually rusted out on it was the muffler.
In 2018 I got a 2015 Honda Civic EX with 30k miles for $13k before taxes at a 3% financing rate. My minimum monthly payment was about $93 after down payment and adding a full coverage extended warranty (waste of money in the end but they sold me 😂). I got a fair deal back then, it was my first car purchase from a dealer and I walked away feeling good about the transaction. During COVID the dealer I purchased the car from was offering me almost $15k to trade it in. Obviously during that time inventory had been obliterated, but if they were gonna pay me $15k how much were they gonna charge someone for a 5 year old car with around 80-90k miles? They just seemed to keep these inflated prices yet they are now offering me $8k for my car, or about half of what they offered during COVID. Absolutely bonkers. Gouging for profits has gotten us to this point and is costing workers that aren't protected by unions their jobs as car makers cut manufacturing cause no one can move over-priced products.
Hey just a suggestion. You should bookmark the cars, because often times I see your videos end up watching the intro, but I'm also doing something else and in a rush to leave the house. Meanwhile I want to see what a specific car went for 😆 it's frustrating lol
Toyota Surfs, Hilux's and Four Runners are awesome, they're well tested in Rural NZ and can easily do 500 + km with typical maintenance, New Zealanders love these vehicles because they are reliable unlike the new ones 😢
Last year, in Dothan AL I came across a 90's 4 Runner around 200k asking $5000. I wanted it, couldn't get there in time. Less than a week - gone. It was the sporty truck type. Not heavy and in decent condition. I'd consider another one. The only SUV I'll look at because you don't see older SUVs on the road for a reason.
Would be nice to see some before and after pics of cars that go on the lot. I have no idea what amount of effort goes into putting auctioned cars onto a sales lot.
I went to Columbus , Ohio over the weekend. Stayed next to a Ford Dealership. They still had 38 2023 Ford F150 and 13 Ford Lighting trucks. Trucks parked in a field next to dealership lot with grass up to the door handles. I took pictures and wish I had a way to send them to you. Their website says that they have over 800 2023-2025 Cars, SUV, light and heavy trucks in stock. Some of the Ford Lighting trucks were as low as $53,000 for a 2023..
