The best part about this is the combination of reality, explanation of why, psychology, neurological programming, honest emotional response, and physical reactions. Priceless!
As a marine veteran, I have to say this is extremely practical. When I taught as an instructor in the corps, I always taught core plus, and it was similar to this. Spot on sir. I’ll also add, accepting that you will get cut in a knife fight helps. Just accept that it will happen and mentally the situation will be a little easier to deal with. At that point, you’re concerned with minimizing the damage of the cut and where it is, than preventing a cut at all.
To me it looks extremely stupid and risky, how can this be the way??? First of all, this one assumes that you are strong enough/ stronger than the oppont, otherwise the knifearm will just stay there? Secondly he still has his other hand at the neck? Regarding accepting getting cut, if they use a weapon, you should too. There is always something.
I love how realistic this training is. No praying mantis shit. Just immediate and effective ways to deal with real world problems. Everything I have watched from the Urban Combatives is top class and would recommend it to anyone.🙏
I like this guy. Has a realistic approach, doesn't pick the smallest guy in class to attack him and walks through the steps while explaining why you do this.
Love this guys realism. His mental attitude and approach is spot on. He's 100% correct. Prepare mentally for these situations as much as you can. I assure you when it happens for real you must engage and follow through and execute the manoeuvre with everything you have. And remember 'The sparrow doesn't land where the Tiger roams'
You are brilliant 👏 real life and true to what the reality is when it happens. A great teacher. Keep doing what you do as you are one of the best I've seen out there.
Love your teachings brother everything you teach is realistic and effective. Your approach re the mindset is what many others dont involve in situations 👏👏👏👏👏👏
The best series I have seen so far. Things like "Ask him a question" are the way it goes. It is all about psychology and you are always more dedicated as life threatened than the one just likes to get a few bucks out of you. But: awareness is allied #1. If you have to fight you missed something. ALWAYS! Most of the times because one likes to stand his silly man. And no, it is not smart bringing ya face to the knifes edge...
Durante los ultimos 22 años entrene boxeo, kick boxing y en este momento sanda....veo tus videos y me parecen muy efectivos y practicos. Felicitaciones y saludos desde Argetina!!!!💪💪💪
Really like that there no ego, just honest no bullshit, from acknowledgement of emotions to simple effective management, also like the explanation of short term memory compared to something in the back of your mind and how in a split second that can be the difference of reaction
The way you lead into this segment, is so on point: This is the worst self-defense situation to be in, if you are in this spot, you have totally screwed up and you better be the real deal. You can always get more money. If my life gets bought for the price of what's in my wallet, that's a great price. I actually keep about $40 in cash, loose, specifically for this situation. Against a professional with a knife, you're pretty well fucked as they'll use your clothing to pull you into the blade: they'll also inevitable switch hands, this is where most people get killed by the aggressor. The winner of a knife fight dies in the ambulance, the loser dies in the street. (Subscribed, USA)
Great point about asking a question and breaking concentration. All I can add is, the wall you are pressed against might be useful as a blunt force weapon. If its brick, stucco, concrete or otherwise rough, and you can leverage the weapon hand against it and tear skin, or if it was cork or had gaps from brick or wood boards, trap the sharp tip for leverage as you fight for control. If you can use leverage from your waist to slam your opponent's head against the solid wall, that may also help in the eventual counter-attack.
Im curious do most have these type of attacks or robberies have the blade close to your face to make you acknowledge there is a deadly threat? I always wondered about someone holding a knife to your stomach or even stabbing im the ribs or lung.
Questions: 1. If at any point your assailant dropped the knife, would you pick it up if you safely could? Or just palm strike/kick/whatever and then run? 2. Do you in a situation like this ever spit in the assailants eyes? You ask the brain-engaging question, the second he begins to respond you spit and simultaneously isolate the weapon? One KM instructor I’ve met advocated eye spitting. Said there’s no man on earth that will not close his eyes if you spit into them. Makes sense, but I rarely see it taught. If I have a knife on my carotid artery my mouth might be too dry to spit anyway.
I like the biting, it's a difficult mental part of self defense. You have to be dedicated that your attacker deserves it. It's a posibility that is easy to forget. A human has enough power to bite the attacker fingers off.
I came to this video after commenting on a video before... 🙂🙂🙂 Given the way my brain reacts in survival situation, I know, my smile itself will short circuit the attacker's brain, before I take physical action against the attacker.
This looks pretty practical and realistic, do you guys also train defences against knife threats from different positions (from the back, from right or left side, etc)?
@@schoolofselfprotection if I lived in Holland I would definitely take your classes, but unfortunately there is no way from Russia to Holland anymore However, check Carl Cestari's knife defence video from "old school series" vids, they help me a lot in my self-defence training
Brilliant - although now seeing how strong guys are, it's a bit scary. The secondary location thing is so important and that doing your best not to go to a secondary location means expect to be hurt but better than dead.
Dam your videos blow my mind. I find it so hard to chose between you and Lee as teachers even though I know he taught you. Maybe I will have to subscribe to both of you as teachers, lol. Peace and blessings from UK
Much appreciated! But Lee and me are teaching the same principles..but in our own way and drill format. So I think it’s complimentary to each other..thanks for appreciating! Much appreciated!
Just a question not criticism. In Gracie jiu jitsu the self defense part of our teaching we pin the hand to the chest . This gives you control of the knife better. Instead of pushing the knife away push away by moving and then glueing the back of the hand to you're chest for more stability. What do you think about that? Love the training just started foundation course one going to teach my whole family this.
Pinning can be a great option! Depends on the position of the knife. But work and fight back from this pin! Hope the foundation course brings you a lot!!
Very legit. Your property isn’t worth dying for. Situational awareness is paramount, Be a hard target, don’t be in situations, avoid them and stay aware of your surroundings.
AFTER you pushed the knife away WITH 2 hands(like you did here) so you have the leverage advantage on his weapon arm, you could torque the wrist(inward or sideways) SHARP AND QUICKLY...he WILL DROP THE KNIFE NO MATTER HOW STRONG HE IS. You could ALSO slang him into the wall behind you...if he has to choose between holding onto the knife or BREAKING HIS FALL TO AVOID A FACEPLANT most ppl would try to break their fall😒😒😒💯💯💯🧔🏾♂️
We tested that. And it failed miserably. People have this emotional connection to the weapon. If you don’t make their brain occupied they will go ape to protect that blade. Resetting the OODA loop is crucial. So if you do what you just described do it only when you hurt him first with a strike or bite before going into your tactic. I mean depending on the subject everything could work when it’s deployed with the right element of surprise and intention.
i'm a boxer,my teachers have always told me the same thing ,in fron tof a knife,run,run,run... Vs someone that knows how to use it,you will die or get badly cut 100% of the times...
Asking the question first is a key most people over look, it is called the OODA loop response that law enforcement use. Look into the research itbis fascinating.
