As a nurse in the process migrating to Aus, the way you talk about the hospitals and how nurses are treated in Aus reinforces that I’m doing the right thing. Glad you’re feeling a lot better now!

I've heard there's quite a few that have signed up to migrate to Australia - have you chosen a state as yet ? .... I have an infusion monthly for MS, and have watched my poor nursing team struggle so badly the last couple of years. Here in WA, we're running out of nuclear / chemo nurses, and need more desperately. The Chemo / infusion unit at the hospital I go to, is so over crowded now, that none of my team can possibly take any time off for a holiday any time soon. Here I am sounding like an advertisement lmao, but seriously, because I'm there a lot, I see most departments struggling to fill their rosters, plus these have been my nursing team for the past 10yrs, so I know when they're tired and rundown - my team is so tired, and that worries me.

@@roslynjonsson2383 This is because many nurses don't want to take the clot shot created by evil and state premiers such as Western Australia have fired those whom won't bowl down to Tyranny.

Nurses are the backbone, heart and soul of any healthcare system. Our public health care here in Australia is incredible. Saved my life 16 years ago with a full mastectomy and eight rounds of chemo. Hugs Maz - so glad you're on the mend, and the hospital treated you well. And a huge well done to Lilly for holding down the fort for everyone, WELL DONE young lady (your Mum and Dad have obviously raised you the right way xx)....Maz, this is Australia hon, so it doesn't matter where you were born. You and your family are Australian now, and a big part of our country, so of course you should be looked after in the same way the rest of us are - point is, you and your family ARE one of us....Heal well and I sure hope you're back to your normal self very soon. I also came home from hospital this week, and can completely understand the "I want to eat real food" thing, coz it's the first thing I did when I got home, a good feed of steamed fish and LOTS of veggies lol

Maz I’m so glad you’re feeling better, that must have been really scary for you all. As an Aussie nurse from the Sunshine Coast now working in the NHS, I would agree with you fully. The standard of care is so much better back home because of better resources and perhaps also because the infrastructure and systems are better. Working here in the UK has been the hardest thing I’ve done in my career and I take my hat off to staff in the NHS for working their whole careers here - I’m just grateful for my experience here and that I’m returning to the sunny coast next year. Nursing is hard wherever you are but it’s soul destroying to not have the resources to be able to provide the care our patients so rightly deserve.

I'm in Brisbane, have private health insurance but on a recent trip to hospital the doctors looked at the private and public hospitals because I had the option of both, surprisingly I could get treated quicker for my issue at another public hospital so thats where I was transferred, the private hospitals were full and I would have had to wait to get into one, I was out of the public hospital before I would have gotten into the private one, and my issue was time critical. Not sure if this is unusual but I appreciate how good the QLD public system is.

Delighted you got the care and attention needed. The Oz public health response to an emergency (yes, you were one) is truly excellent, and we all happily pay taxes to keep it so. A twisted intestine can be very painful, requiring strong drugs to control the pain. Strong pain relievers come with possible side effects. My own sister suffered hallucinations on pethidene (an opioid).

@@TheBAMFamalam You are correct, and my sister's experience involved little green men crouching in the corner of the ceiling, and "looking" at her. When she shouted at them, they fled, laughing, but came back as soon as the nurses had left. So, your little bit of paranoia would not have upset the nurse at all. Tough, and weird from your side, though! Love your channel.

Due to having been born with a heart condition (Tetrology of fallot) I have spent some time in hospital, I can say that the Nurses, Doctors and all the staff have been great. We are so lucky here in Australia, and in my case so glad that I'am not in the USA, I couldn't imagine how much I would have had to pay for my hospital visits. Nothing worse that having your wife or child having to go to Hospital in an emergency. I have had to deal with this too, except we have a special needs daughter to deal with & as my wife is her chief carer, it was especially difficult, but with the help of family we got through it. My wife had to have emergency surgery for her heart. We live in Sydney, but I also can say the Medical staff were awesome. We had no trouble with visitation & I was able to stay at the Hospital for the whole time. This was 4 years ago & she has now made a full recovery. I'm very happy to see Maz in full recovery mode. Great for her physical Health & your's & the families mental health. Keep on getting better. Great stuff. So glad you are all so happy in this great country.

I think the visitation problems would have been because of Covid restrictions. A lot of medical & aged care facilities are still being ultra cautious as far as Covid transmission is concerned & I have no issue with that at all, although I do realise it can be frustrating for families in some situations.

I had a similar medical emergency in Perth back in 2019. Same praise to all, from the ambos to the hospital staff and surgeons. All free of charge, the ambo was covered by my partial private health care (I have dental, optical and ambulance cover). 5 days in hospital, I would have had to mortgage the house if in the states with no health cover. I went to a medical centre the next day and they did a CT scan , when I got home they rang me and told me to get to the hospital straight away … I cried and gagged when they put the tube down my nose … I never want to go through that ever again … I have had abdominal surgery several times and that’s why it happened apparently .. I’m glad your experience at hospital was better than mine ..mine was a regional hospital … nurses are great and a lot of the doctors are wishing they were somewhere else ..

They actually had to transfer me to another hospital for a specialist to put the tube up my nose and down my throat and it took him two goes at it. It sure is not good to have done. Oh gosh, we hope you’ve recovered well - we had seen a story like that on the news recently. It’s an excellent hospital, we couldn’t fault it. Haha I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat jelly again after that hospital visit 🤣🤣🤣

Ha ha! I can fully relate to your crushing fluid/ jelly diet and days of "nil by mouth" Being starved was indeed the hardest! Eight weeks ago I was taken by an ambulance to hospital due to excruciating tummy pain. I had gall bladder crystals that affected my pancreas requiring immediate surgery. Hospital doctors and nurses were fantastic both public and private. As it was an emergency I was taken to a public hospital near me but the surgery was done in a private hospital by same surgeon who cared for me at the public hospital. I live in NSW, like you I received the best care ever I am so grateful for. Good to see you recuperating well.

My last hospital stay was also very good. Only one exception, I was on limited fluids, I counted them all day and had enough left for a cup of tea after dinner. When I got my cup, it had about 30ml of hot water in it for my tea., Not even enough to wet a whole teabag! I called for a nurse and a lovely English lady listened and looked at the cup. She came back with a full cup for me and made my day!

So I agree it is dreadful. Glad you can laugh about the atire. I am recently a retired from a Melbourne hospital anaesthetic nurse so I know about theatre attire. You know we do that so not to encourage you to come back 😉. It was a dreadful experience for you but so glad you have done this video. You know as a nurse this has made be so proud of my profession. Take it easy, rest up and be so proud of your Lilly...wonderful family. In Victoria we have to have ambulance insurance otherwise it can be costly...most people have it but health care is free.

Glad you had a good experience with Aussie hospitals. I went to hospital/ the fracture clinic recently in NSW after a horse riding fall resulting in a trauma to my wrist and hand, and they completely missed the three fractures in my wrist/hand(after two X-rays) :( It wasn't until I saw my GP who ordered an MRI that my three fractures were picked up :( I mean the ER Drs and nurses were fantastic but didn't want to do a CT scan which they should have done as it would have picked up my fractures sooner :(

I had a hysterectomy at the Gold Coast University hospital... all was going well until I popped a couple of staples and got a staph infection. In all I spent 21 days in hospital. The food was ok, but getting it never lined up with when I was getting more drugs pumped in, and the drugs were making me feel sickly and raw in the stomach. As soon as I could venture from my bed to the food hall downstairs I did, I bought a strawberry milk - instantly soothed my stomach.

G'day, I have had self funded private surgery as well as public hospital surgery. Getting the funding aranged for the private treatment was stressful and that surgery should have been done in the public system, but that is another issue. Once the hospitan decide you can be treated, then you get treated. Once they decide that there is nothing that can be done to cure you, they still respect your needs. And that folks, is a story for another time/format.

@@TheBAMFamalam G'day, We can access funding from our super/retirment savings. I think the public hospital system just says your condition is "not urgent" so the cost does not come from the public system. Now my retirmend future has a big dent in it. But that is a problem for ron, (later on).

In the last three years I’ve had two bouts of completely different cancers. The second was supposed to kill me, but great treatment from clever and well trained doctors and nurses along with a huge amount of support and compassion from them, and all my mates too, changed that prognosis and I’m currently cancer free. Everything you say is true. Best of all this was all under Medicare. The greatest cost to me was the parking at the hospital!😀 I cannot understand any first world country that does not have a proper state run and financed medical system.

If you have treatment at a public hospital in an emergency you won't be charged, if you have private insurance ask the hospital to bill the health fund. The public hospital can't ask you but if you offer the can hit up the health fund and you don't pay and the public system gets paid. I asked is there I way I can get my health fund to pay, they were delighted. Health funds are getting a free ride. I've done this twice and got a thank you letter. One hospital moved me to a private room, even suggested I stay an extra day to rest.
