I had an exhusband that when I bought up debt, he treated it like the children of Israel.... He kept forgetting. So we finally divorced and I tackled the debt by myself.... I moved in with my parents. I paid off $45,000 of debt in one year. I took on an extra job and kept my main job as a teacher. I did it. After that one year. I moved into an apartment. My mother saved all the money I gave her for rent and I used it to move in. I bought furniture... one room at a time. Thanks to my brother who introduced me to Dave Ramsey.... I worked it like a champ. Still building my emergency fund. I still must do better with my retirement. Give more. God got the increase I took care of the debt.

Congratulations on being debt free! I know it must have been challenging at times, especially as a single mom, but I bet you are so much stronger having gone through it all. :-)

Glad you're in a better place, by the way. The children of Israel were never forgotten, the children Israel kept forgetting God. Sorry, just sounded like a terrible analogy.

Kudos to this man for acknowledging he had a problem , and not just blame the woman , I 100 % believe she had a part to play also but a good sign of growth is first acknowledging where you went wrong

Being single really isn't that bad. Marriage isn't all what its cracked up to be. Been there done that lol. Never again

Me, too. But if I found THE One, don't think for a second that I'll hesitate to get married.

Marriage isn't what it's cracked up to be only because people don't know how to be married. They don't truly and fully understand what marriage is (about).

The most important lesson I've learned from Dave Ramsey is to always be in lock step with your partner, to grow with your partner and work together. That way you can have a wonderful life and a wonderful marriage while also avoiding the horribleness and expensiveness of a divorce.

Marriage in and of itself IS a business contract.

Correction: marriage is a bond that should never be broken. But people break it all the time like kids playing baseball in the backyard. People treat marriage like it's a joke. THEY are the joke, not marriage.

chrisgast there is no point in getting married in modern times. It is all benefits for the woman and none for the man.

What i have learned is that any debt that was aquired during the marriage belongs to both of the parties involved so she owes half of that debt if there is any money involved it goes to pay that debt . Dave is wrong where he says thats in your name it doesnt matter its yalls debt even if its in one name only .

Government never should have got involved. The fact you have to sign a contract to live with another human being is dumb as he'll.

No. Society made marriage a business contract. And 2017 is almost over. So much for being welcomed into it.

I’m getting the house and “kid”(she is 17) out of this divorce. He is mad and bitter that I want a divorce but who could blame me. He had two children with another woman while we were married. Takes the money he has left after paying child support and uses it for partying with his friends watch me pay for all of our living expenses minus some food costs (he likes to eat). I waited until our youngest and his youngest both turned 17 so child support will end the same time the marriage will. I don’t want a dime from him I just want the house I paid for. He can have everything in it except the lawnmower and weedwacker, those are mine. WGTOW

His name is on the car title/loan, but SHE'S driving it??? Doesn't he know that he owns it (via the bank)? Why would he let her drive HIS car? Anybody who knows either one of these kinds of people should RUN from them. When you give up on marriage so easily and you don't work through your problems together, you'll end up like these two. And that's VERY pathetic. 9 years???
