I gotta say I went with ozone for the first time a few months ago and I've had nothing but good results with no bad effects on corals or fish, and if your looking for ultimate clarity look no further then ozone. At first I was afraid also but I just took to chance and I don't regret it.

Hay Than just a tip I don't know if you know this but when I do my tank I clip that tube to a new filter sock or two and run my hose into my sump then when in done cleaning I just take out the durty sock 😅🙃it helps me with cleaning hope that can help

Instead of muratic acid, you can soak the rock for a long period in chlorine. Pool chlorinator or chlorine bleach. Its an oxidizer, which will desolve organics but not the rock. I soaked 2000lbs of rock for a month in pool chlorine. Then drained, rinsed. After that i refilled the vat with tap water. Added pond declorinator. Soaked it for 3 weeks in that. Tested every few days and got zero chlorine measurements. Once done i drained and filled with saltwater. Put a pump and let it sit for 8months, dosing bacteria weekly. Also dosed pods a few times.

Everytime I see these videos and a tremendous outbreak of hair algae, no one ever talks about utilizing a Sea Hare (Dolabella type) to mow it down in just a couple days. During that time utilize the Tang Gang as well as CUC. Once the algea is eliminated either give the Sea Hare to another reefer having issues or to your local LFS for a credit.
@joshuastevens5557

How about finding the reason why the hair algae is coming into are tanks and get are parameters in check
@mosswstrvll6
@mosswstrvll6 2 года назад
@@joshuastevens5557 It's "our" for one. Second...it's not always about parameters being in check. It happens in the ocean, it can happen in your tank. There is absolutely nothing wrong with utilizing what nature has provided to rid the algae. At that same time, work on your 'parameters'. At least while doing so, you don't have to look at the nuisance algae.

My trochus snails seem to spawn around every other month. I have never actually seen babies pop up in the tank though. I run UV at the Ich management flow rate, so that is probably the reason why.

Just make sure you have pure baking powder when using muriatic acid, the baking powder will neutralize the acid and render the water/rocks safe to touch. I've used it for seriyu stones to turn the rocks a nice black color.

I used two under the sink filters from menards connected with 5 micron 9" string filters 2$ each. The units were 35$. The 5 foot startronic uv at 25 gallon per hour water flow and 4 canisters of carbon chemi pure with resin and a 10% weekly water change did well. To test color fill white McDonalds cup of old tank water and compare to new mixed salt water under light to compare color.

I've been in the saltwater hobby since 1986 I haven't had this problem too many times but when I have my best advice is to manually pull that crap out it's a little bit of work but if you manually pull it out get yourself a little toothbrush it will process will be a lot quicker I don't just depend on snails to do this job pull it out manually along with water changes and usually it gets rid of the problem

I've acid-bathed a few hundred pounds of dry rock. It reduces algae growth but doesn't stop it. I do 10 minutes in a 10% muriatic acid (so 3%HCL solution) though I've not tested other concentrations or durations.

Than, I think the dirty water is more from the algea blooms associated with bare bottom tanks in the beginning stages. I use muriatic acid all the time to clean concrete. I used it to clean my reef saver rock after it had been in storage. As far as weight reduction, I couldn't tell any difference. It cleaned the rock pearly white though!!!

Nathan's tank has sand. Definitely a big factor in the water clarity issue. For your broken uv check to see if you can get new ballasts. They might be common and cheap. Ballasts don't last forever.
@fdij-l4u
@fdij-l4u 3 года назад
Just out of curiosity, why do you say the sand is a big factor in the water clarity?
@maokinus
@maokinus 3 года назад
Tons of critters and bacteria live in the sand that help to break things down. Bare bottom is very tough in the first year till the rock matures.

Tidal gardens - “we’re worried about the potential risks of ozone since we don’t have experience with it, and want to see how less intense water treatments work first” ACI aquaculture - “So I got this stuff to strip meat off bones and I’m dripping it straight into the grow out tank for my pH because why not” Haha love the videos and the updates on the farm!! @Tidal Gardens Than, I understood from your previous videos that you keep foxface in most of your frag/display tanks for algae control. How often did foxface go rogue and started eating your zoas, LPS? Just want to get a sense of how likely (in term of percentage) it is that foxface turns into coral eaters.

Personally I'd rather get that type of info from someone I trust and that I believe would stress the safety and make sure it was done properly. May feel like alot of weight on ya but im sure plenty vids out there that long as you stress safely and proper procedures you can rest easy any mistakes made couldn't be on you. Just my 2 cents lol
