definitely been hitting some imaginary plateaus lately, a little frustrating when I'm trying to post content on my channel without being repetitive and boring, good advice here and it's always nice to get a reminder that i'm doing this for the fun of it and the love of it!
I feel like that constantly, when fixating over all the thinks I still can't do or land properly I tend to overlook how I'm slowly getting better at all the other things I'm not noticing
I needed to hear this. I've been busting ass practicing ollies for months now and its just kind of burning me out; I almost feel like ive gotten worse over the last couple weeks. I think I need to take a break from ollies and just go cruise and have fun. Go brush up on that basic stuff. Love your videos still Sarah! I try and watch every one even if it's not in my immediate scope. Always something to think about and take away
I’ve been doing a lot of them mental approach to my skating as of late and I’ve been progressing more and learning new tricks by improving my consistency with what I already know how to do
For just about everything, I think flow and style comes from comfort and I think concentrating on enjoying things will ultimately pay off more than slowly progressing through multiple tricks/skills at once nonstop. You might be making incredible amounts of progress working on a trick list and you wouldn't know until you finally hit the "making" phase ... if that even lines up for more than one trick/combo at a time. Definitely an improved approach, I say, and hopefully much more enjoyable.
SAME BOAT. I had a trick I was going to land this year... and I'm so close but it never happened, it feels like I'm not progressing at all. But there's a lot of new stuff that I'd never even considered trying that I'm landing. I still feel like I'm in a rut, but the biggest help is consistency in practice and mobility work.
hey sarah! half of skating really is mental haha.. by the by, i'm currently in the process of making a video talking about the us open and other stuff, and i was wondering if it'd be ok to use some of your footage from your highlight reel. cheers!
You can definitely shred! But I agree, spending that much time on new more technical tricks you can’t land when to be honest your potential for the basic tricks you can land hasn’t been achieved. Probably not the best use of your time. If you get your Ollie tricks and basic flips close to your max athletic ability and can land them on more and more difficult surfaces and obstacles, those more difficult trick you have yet to land might come a lot easier and sooner.
