See also my blog at sharpologist.com Every shaver will get an ingrown hair occassionally, and for some its a chronic problem. Here are a few ways to deal with it. Distributed by Tubemogul.
A better way to deal with the aspirin is to just put a drop or two of water On the aspirin and not crush it. Wait a minute, then use your finger to make a paste. This way aspirin crumbs don't go flying about and you get to use the whole aspirin. We do this for inflamed bug bites with our daughter...
how should i use shaving oil? i made my own with canola oil tea tree and eucalyptus oil. whats the process of putting it on. and would i was it off with soap and cold water after the shave to put my after shave on? because i want to use my aftershave the oil is just a pre shave tool for me lol. ooo and will those oils harm the brush? i read that that's basically whats in a lot of shaving oils so i figured it was OK. do you know?
Try pre-shave oil. I'm a generic white guy, but have similar facial hair to African Americans on my neck, thick and curly. I started using some pre-shave oil on my neck and face and have noticed a drastic decrease in ingrown hairs.
Hi. Love your channel. How Many days would you say we could use a single blade for shave. one day, two days, the whole week? What’s your recommendation? Andre from Long Island New York
I have to agree with your preventative part. As a person of color (lol, political correctness), I always had ingrown hairs after shaving. Once my brother taught me about wet shaving and I went through your videos. I noticed that I haven't had an ingrown hair on my face at all in weeks.
never seen acetylsalicylic acid in any of my shave-related product, but i have seen normal salicylic acid. while aspirin is the same as acetylsalicylic acid, normal salicylic acid is actually a completely different compound than aspirin, since it lacks the aldehyde functional group (salicylic acid's only got a hydroxyl group instead) my question would be: what difference does that functional group make in chemical exfoliation?
Im building the ultimate shaving experience i got my perfect single blade stick and blades, my gilettes Mach 3 and 5, got the lather, and the gillete preface scrubs would u recomennd me using compressed air to remove the hair instead of water
You definitely know what you're talking about. The using a single blade is 100% effective (as far as I'm concerned) & I'm gonna try exfoliating with my old toothbrush. Shall I use the aspirin/paracetamol before or after shaving & can you recommend something to mix it with 'cause it doesn't stay on with water
hi man can you plz send me an url or info of were to wach some other old vids like this with the man climbing the tree? i liked very much the tecknick:) thank you
i use aspirin as well mixed with witch hazel to create a paste it reduces the swelling on my face but does not get rid of the bumps completely. I don't use a toothbrush though.
Any advice for someone who shaves with a DE razor but keeps getting cut on the neck and occasional jaw line nicks. I have a pretty good lather and blades pretty new. Is it because of my razor, I have the one where the handle twist off. In your how to shave vid, its the one from the middle east.
Thank you for the tip good Sir! I am a man of color. Nothing seems to work for me. I use a Mach 3 and a Merkur Futur.. But nothing eliminates my shave bumps.
Love Mantic, but, I have to disagree on the Aspirin thing. "Dry Skin Traps Hair Growing Back After A Shave". Keep your skin clean and find a product that can keep your skin moist for 24 hours after you shave. Don't believe me? Might wanna take a look at the skin keeping the hair trapped. Dead and Dry as a Fart. Keeping the skin clean and moist will also eliminate acne. Say??? Don't Acne and Ingrown Hair kinda go together??? Good Luck Fella's!!!
Lift & dont remove all the ingrown hair before you shave. Have your lady use tweezers & lift the ingrown hair throughout the week. USE LESS PRESSURE & more passes. If you feel tugging, change direction. Contrary to popular belief, I have found shaving lightly Against The Grain from the bottom of my neck in an upwards fashion is best. The hair is cut so the tips grow out & not in. Moist skin for 24 hours allows hair to grow back & not in. Dry Skin = Problems. Never shave over ingrown hair.
my two cents: kiehl's "Close-Shavers" Shaving Formula #31-O. its "rinseable oil" of rosemary and other essentials. it defies logic, but works very well
I watched a solid video that suggested two things... One, use an exfoliating face wash to remove the top layer of skin and then moisturizing before the next time you shave. This exposes the ingrown hairs and gives your skin time to heal. The other suggestion was to put the aftershave on 10-15 minutes AFTER your shave as opposed to immediately after in order to stop the skin from healing over the hair. What is your take on this?
Mantic, I used a Wahl super close electric razor on one side of my mustache and that turned out to be a trajic mistake on my part. I use a beard trimmer to shave with but I have always used a disposable razor on my chin, mustache, and neck area. I had never ever had problems with ingrown hairs on my mustache but rather on my cheeks. After using the electric razor, one side of my mustache area was nothing but bumps and that was almost a year and half ago and its still that way. can you help me??
Same with me. Open Comb Razor, New blade for each Shave, and Pre de Provence 100% Shea Butter or Penhaligons After Shave Balm. Add these things to my advice above and you will have a clear neck within a few weeks. Keeping the skin moist is mucho importante!!! I have tried a gillion things and my aforementioned advice is what improved my problem (Like Yours) 100%. The tools and the quality of the goop you put on your skin added to a little technique will get it done!
the "aspirin" solution is often used in dermatology, it's softens keratinous layer of skin. wel, just wanted to say it's no mumbo-jumbo, it really works.
Personally I use the pre-shave oil from Art of Shaving, its a bit pricey but I noticed a great improvement in my shave quality. I have heard good things about baby oil but I haven't tried it yet.
I tried the aspirin method for about 3 weeks. I'd say it does work (about 85% maybe?) What I noticed was how much easier and cleaner the stubble comes off and how you almost don't need to shave against the grain. You also need a lot to coat your entire neck or face and will easily go through a small bottle, which is why I bought mine from CVS for $1. What I also noticed was, once you stop using the aspirin method, your hair goes back to the way it was originally. It's NOT a permanent solution.
I might try the toothbrush. I really don't get ingrowns too much now that I've switched to wet shaving. One thing I saw someone use on another video is some device that looked kind of like a rubber thimble to rub on the face. I guess the method is similar to why a toothbrush works.
Thank you for another useful video. Great to see you are still producing them!! For me its always been the "against the grain" thats caused all my problems, once I learned simply not to do it the ingrown's have gone away!
