MORE OF THESE SHORT VIDEOS PLEASE. MY WIFE LIKES LISTENING TO THEM AS SHE'S JUST GOT A NEW JOB AT A BIG FINANCE COMPANY. SHE'S BEEN PUTTING THE PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE AND SHE'S ALREADY MAKING A NAME FOR HERSELF WITH HER IMMEDIATE COLLEAGUES AND EVEN THE CEO. GOOD JOB JOCKO AND ECHO.
Props to echo for using Moana as an example. As a father of a 2 year old kid, i must have seen it with him 365 times lol but i am not complaining. The longer i watched it, the more i appreciated the nuances of the story and the animation. Cheers echo! I bet you also went through the same thing.
I am Filipino Chef I got promoted 2x in my contract i was selected among four individual team members I would say not lucky it's I earned thru my hardwork and honestly deep intact with my team it's not easy really it's blood sweat and tears and commitment to people.
DANG !!!!! This clip really helped me understand and check my EGO. I was doing a self AAR on my 9-5 work today, I did great but sure enough I kept thinking about that person you guys are talking about and how I undermined him. He is not management but he has seniority and I kinda told him off in a professional manner but after watching this clip, I realized that my ego got in the way and lost the mission. CHECK!! Mental Adjustment made. ALWAYS PLACE THE MISSION FIRST! My mission is to work as a team (playdagame if need be) and get the job done in a safe, efficient manner.
I try and apply this information every day at work, as a monitor of cashiers at the front end of a grocery store. It doesn't always work but when it does it's amazing. The best advice Jocko gave was getting control of your ego, or at least that's where all of his other teachings come from.
Today is a great day, for the longest time I was trying to figure out what was on Echo Charles's arm.....At first I was almost convinced that it was stretch marks of some sort. However I have come to the realization that it is simply a tattoo of the muscular system of the human body. Keep up the great work guys!
3:19 I stopped being best friends with that person. We were friends before we started working together, but when I saw their true colors in the professional realm, I dumped him. I don't stay friends with weasels!
absolutely and 100 % confirmed ! i play the game to help the team win !!! Thx @Jocko for this podcast, which shows me that i am on the right path. Thx so much!
How do you become better without feeling like you’re not good enough, which seems detrimental to performance. But equally getting a big ego is also detrimental to performance. What’s the sweet spot for you? Thanks Ollie
Mentally; To feel like you're not good enough for something may be a setback to some people. It's the ability to bounce back from emotionally damaging situations that determines how you will deal with this stress. I see it as stress because whether it's an audition, time trial, or try-out, you're always going to have it in the back of your mind; "Maybe I'm not good enough," or "I might not be as good as I thought I was" It's the ability to bounce back from stressful situations. Sometimes Ego is a good thing, it's motivating. But beware, once you find out your limit, your first reaction will be the worst. As in depressing, once you find out someone is better than you, your competitiveness comes out, and that can push you even farther. Let pain become an addiction. Just ask yourself, what the fuck is a little pain? Why not? Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. 1. Find your limit 2. Push your limit Take in the fact that there will always be people better than you. A little ego is good, too much is bad. Find your limit Don't mind anyone elses' ego. Worry about yourself. Everything is a competition, be nice to everyone you meet. Don't feel above them or below, just see them as a person and respect them. But when it comes time to competition, always give your best. Don't say too much, nor say too little. Have a plan, get it in your mind to beat them. Race yourself, always. Your Number 1 enemy will always be you. Don't let your mind beat you into submission. Don't let those thoughts take over. That's my sweet spot.
There is a big distinction between confidence and cockiness. Confidence is the sweet spot you are looking for. It is earned after months and years of practice and refinement. You will know when you get it. You wont need to prove your merit to anyone but yourself, because the actions and results will speak for themselves. Cockiness can be easily seen. Cocky people feel they need to constantly impress people with boastful banter because they are co-dependent for the attention. Donald Trump saying that he knows more about military conflict than our own Generals is a classic example that comes to mind.
You have to look at it different. Don't think if you are good enoungh, think I have no choice but to sucecede. Having no choice but to win sometimes makes the obsticle easier.
Just be happy with who you presently are, overweight, etc. Out of shape. Whatever, and at the same time you can still be motivated to improve yourself. Love yourself man. People always say this crap like they got super motivated by looking at their gut in the mirror and all this stupid crap. don't live up to what other people want for yourself, if you want to be a healthier person then naturally your body will change, if you take upon yourself the correct diet and exercise. If you want to be good at something that you feel that you are incompetent with, all you have to do is stick with people with higher levels of skill and mentorship and follow in their footsteps. Becoming good at something? just means you need to practice every single day doing it. You can't practice every single day doing something and also improve on it however, if you have no passion for it. So I guess what is required is for you to take a deeper look at what your true desires are as a person. You can't really achieve something and then say you're going to be happy when you achieve that, you need to be happy in the present moment now
JOCKO AND ECHO ARE THE TYPE OF GUYS THAT WHEN THEY DO PUSHUPS!!! THE EARTH DOES NOT PUSH THEM UP THEY PUSH THE EARTH DOWN!!!! TOO MUCH AWESOMENESS!!!! KEEP AT IT MEN!! THIS U.S. MARINE IS INSPIRED WITH EVERY UPLOAD
If I had a team, I'd know putting the team first was also at the same time putting myself first because if the team fails I fail. If the team slows down. I slow down. Any temporary selfish win wouldn't ever be worth it.
He has similar discipline and ethics that are in line with the Catholic Faith in regard to abstinence, effort, denying oneself of unhealthy pleasure or laziness, owning up to ones mistake or being truthful . The Benidictine monks are the navy seals of spiritual warfare.
Can you do one on team members that feel unappreciated, partially because they are not given challenging work to do or feel like they are not paid enough?
He touches base on it in his book Extreme Ownership. In particularly, chapters 2 and 3. Chapter 2 is titled, “No Bad Teams, Only Bad Leaders”, which says it all right there and chapter 3 titled “Believe”, which is all about making sure the team believes in the overall goal so that the bigger picture is known. If you want answers, I recommend taking a peak at that book.
@@JDNMusic1 which is so true. I was on a project Last Summer with two of my friends that I got hired. It's an intense schedule with a challenging deadline. I have been a part of probably a dozen of them while my two friends were coming on for the first time. From my perspective at the time, their lack of push and production had me seriously worried that they would not be able to rise to the occasion towards the end of the project when everything gets crazy. I realize now that I was projecting. Once that thought was planted in my head, it grew like a weed and had me in a combination of stress and anger for almost the entire month of September LOL I didn't realize the vibe that was coming off of me, but luckily I did make some adjustments and we wound up putting up the highest quality building in company history. That launch day was October 10th, it wasn't until last night watching these videos that I realized where I was at fault for a bad vibe and energy in the early going process of the project.
What if your superior has been in the game longer, and he knows the higher ups better/longer then you have. Simply saying that the higher ups like the truth, or other things won’t register to your officer. How do you tilt them in the bettering of the team then?
The thing about 4:15 is that it has to be true. Truly the way that the selfish person looks best if it the team wins. Fortunately, this is often the case anyway. If it is not inherently true, the selfish person is going to sense that it is not. Selfish people tend to have a pretty good sense for what is silly and what is not. It is easy to equate arrogance with ignorance but that is often NOT the case. Many of these folks are not the buffoons you see on your TV.
Do your best because people notice you ...dont ever play game with your team or any people be truthful and honest in return all comes back to you do good, good karma comes in time...
If your young with no kids or wife all YOU HAVE IS TIME! 24 hours in a day my friend.. Split those "get after it" sessions into parts. Early morning run or quick workout, then after the school and work is over.. hit it hard for 1 hour!! Just 1.. if you have the energy to push past the hour do it (some days you will not) of course you have to get your nutrition and water in take right all day but the early morning will get you ready for the day and the night session will pump you up but you will work hard enough to get the best sleep of your life...... All this is said on the assumption you have no kids or wife, that changes the entire plan. But its life brother, your way has to fit your life!!
Jocko definitely wouldn't have liked working in the corner of USSOCOM that I spent almost all of my 20 years in (AFSOC). We were covered up in officers that would throw their mother under a bus to make that next promotion. They played the game all right, and it was all about getting themselves promoted and fuck everyone else (and fuck the mission too, if that got in the way). It was bad, the enlisted guys in my final unit were all talking about getting out as soon as possible so they could get out from under these asshole colonels. Once upon a time, SOF was not the way to the stars, in fact, it was usually a good way to make sure you retired as an O-4 or O-5. Now? Every super-ambitious jackass from West Point, Annapolis and USAFA is clamoring to get into a SOF unit, because that's the surest way to promotion. At least I was in early enough to see AFSOC when it was still a place for the mission hackers, before things got kind of grim.
Mostly because it was too hard to be promoted. In times when it easier to be promoted - when you have a good outside economy sucking some officers out -- then it is a better environment. In today's military, most guys are going to be promoted - so they can afford to be honest.
Don Shipley says on one video that the attrition rate at Navy Seal training is so high because most guys want to say there Seals they want the title , parents proud , chics dig ya , dudes scared of ya ........... And he says that's the absolute reason most don't make it , gotta live it , gotta take it home with ya HOO-YAH GOD BLESS NAVY SEALS IN JESUS NAME AMEN 🙏🏻 😇
Dude no joke I'm in it for myself. Here is the rationale. People like people that look like themselves. I will never get in front of a decent white skinned person as a brown person. I take responsibility for my actions and am focused on improving. But I will not take risks for my company nor will I try to help anyone else out. There is no point for some of us being altruistic.
Why hasn't The Rock Dwayne Johnson thing happened yet? There's absolutely no way that shouldn't happen, it's a no-brainer obvious situation / my op plus everyone else's etc
Everyone should listen to ex Navy Seal Chad Williams testimony on RU-vid it's a great testimony in Jesus name amen 🙏🏻 😇, this commentary made me think off if 🙏🏻🇺🇸😇
