When I was young I liked Jerry Lewis but I seen he could be a real jerk. Later on I appreciated Dean so much more. He could sing, act, and he was funny.
@@susantunbridge4612 I found out about this when he was old. I can’t remember her name but he acted like he wanted to discuss the movie. Instead he exposed himself. She said it really messed her I know here in NC where he met his wife. He came to my neighbors house. She was the first person with MD to graduate. When the camera was on he was so fake. Camera off he was a jerk. He wanted our street closed. Nobody was going to bother him. One thing I do remember was it was hot and he had a college sweat shirt on and short shorts on. His legs looked tanned and slick.
Yes. He is mocking ou Creator ,I used to love his singing but after this video ,he will have to pass Really hope he found JESUS in time He was clearly not sober
Saved? He was a Catholic. There was no need for "saving". He was joking about becoming an evangelist. For the enormous amount of money they make. What was it Jesus said about money?
Dean ripped one right past Johnny. When he asked, is compilations like Appalachian’s? And Dean said, “boy they caught a lot of our guys up there.” Referring the 1957 raid of the huge Mafia meeting in Apalachin, NY.
@@HAM-sb2ns I don't care for pedantic people either. I didn't mean to correct anyone, just point out Dean's joke that easily went under the radar. He also sometimes said "axe" instead of "ask" and unlike "Dr. Frank Sinatra," who got a special college degree, Dean seemed to flaunt his lack of education.
@@HAM-sb2ns It is an interesting fact about Dean, that he played with the English language a lot. It indicates intelligence. You need to look up what "pedantic" means and how it's used.
I absolutely adored Dean Martin but if that was sober I’m not sure I could watch an inebriated Dean. I watched him religiously every Thursday night in the late 60’s.
@@robertlafountaine9108 When Dean and Jerry broke up, Dean needed a character/identity of his own. Jerry already had one: the kid, the lunatic. Dean had one written for him- I forgot which writer- he wrote a lot in the 50s. And the drunk character was invented. The "as good as you're gonna feel all day" joke, by the time of this appearance, was decades old. Frank Sinatra also used it. Like many great singers, Dean was also a solid, believable actor. It's true that Dean was an alcoholic, as was Frank to a greater extent, but it's possible to be an alcoholic and portray a drunk while not being drunk.
Funny how you could say "Japs" on network TV in 1980 but you can't even post a person saying it from 1980 in 2022. Humanity is heading for it's end. Thank God I'm more than .5 way thru my trips around the sun. Most of our really good times are behind us.
@@robertrothberg8678 Elvis has always been my favorite but Sammy Is up there with them. Unlikely we will ever see the likes of Elvis and The Rat Pack again.
@@robertrothberg8678 I agree Sammy was in a league of his own as was Elvis. There was a reason he was called the King. Its subjective of course but to me Elvis was the greatest entertainer of the 20th century and there is no one to equal him in the 21st. 😊
When Elvis met Dean along with his daughters in his dressing room or whatever, on a set, SOMEWHERE in the universe, Lol, ah, he told Dean's daughters that their Dad was the King of Cool, well, it's AT LEAST a tie!!!!!!!
You can hear the ice 🧊 in the mug. Now Johnny is a alcoholic and quit after a while and I saw this because he was opened about not drinking. I can’t have just one drink or I will drink every day all day and function. I’ll function in the sense that I don’t fall, I don’t say stupid things I just drink and stay on a Plato. Every day for me was not a hangover necessarily but it was depression

It is sad that near the end. He was working with Frank Sinatra, he had to be replaced by Liza Minnelli. He started to lose his magic. So sad that he ended his life the way that he did.
He was not even a year into grieving for his son. Sinatra tended to be a real busybody, and insisted on the tour, which showed a callous disregard for his feelings. Same as the Lewis reunion that did not take, Sinatra being a busybody. Dean did not really want to go, he was a changed person, needed at least 3 years for grieving properly, and he never got that. During the tour, Sinatra dumped a plate of spaghetti on his head to get his attention, get him in the party mood - and that was it. Dean walked off, it was an insult to his dignity - and never went back. I don't blame him one bit. Later, he did fine performing in front of Princess Anne.
I liked Dean;s music but one thing tired me out re Dean and that is when he played the fake drunk almost all the time...as here on Carson. He was never really funny and I never once saw him give ust a simple, straight interview or talk. I do not think I ever saw the guy be his real, normal self. If you saw him a lot you see for 40 years he used the same old lines. He was a good singer though. Sinatra was a great singer but he was never funny in his life and was no actor...I guess it is who you know in that business.
I agree. It was getting old after a while. But it was part of his image and it was kind of hard for him to get rid of it even if he wanted to because people would expect it. However, there are several interviews on the internet that I've seen where he was completely normal and not playing the part of a drunk like Foster Brooks would do at times. One that comes to mind is Dean Martin interview 1984 with David Hartman on RU-vid.
