Yeah, those classy comedians who supported/worked in mob owned nightclubs for years. No dirty Red Foxes/Pryors/Carlins/Bruces...etc. Not like today's unethical swearing comedians.
I don't know . They did vote for the above advertised twit. Sorry Regan. But for a great president... He made a fantastic actor. Probably not much difference in jobs.
Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. Gone are the days of great actors, talented comedians, good clean television shows and great entertainment. An era of greatness gone but not forgotten. Thanks to RU-vid.
Legends? Hardly - just another crook who screwed over the American people. His acting skills made them think he was doing a great job when actually he was working for the mega rich all along.
@@trythinkingforachange4201 I noticed this is your second negative comment. I guess that makes you a troll or someone who wants to get attention. Why are you here if you didn't like Reagan? You must have something better to do. Why don't you go away and watch CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, because you really don't have a clue nor know your history. You must be one of these brainwashed leftists. These people are not of your generation. Go back to your basement or your safe space. Now move along now.
Thank Goodness. Though another RRR would probably be better than another Clinton, or Biden, or Bush, or ............................ Funny thing is he could compromise to get stuff done for America. Tip O'neil while a political rival was also a good friend and they both worked together to minimize differences and enlarge common ground. The Good Ol' Days.
Jane Doe, you are right. A Knight's honor to a Princess is not yet dead. Men don't stand, pull back the chair and seat their women. They don't open doors and the car door for a lady anymore. I told my granddaughter, if he doesn't do these things for you, loose him. She saw me do this for her grandmother. I followed through and watched. I did offer to coach him but she got it and said ,"Pappy, you are right, I'll loose him." Now he is gone. She is happily married to a man that that will open doors and tend to her needs and they have a baby on the way.
And how many of those on the receiving end took offence? It was all taken with humour. That was when people could laugh at themselves, without the PC brigade jumping in and claiming the content was offensive, racist & sexist. It must be terrible to live life without a sense of humour!
Try the Presidential Correspondent's Dinner. It's not quite as clean, but it's very highbrow (And much cleaner in general) than what Comedy Central has.
The only "dirty joke" I can recall is when they were introducing legendery ladies man and hall of Famer Wilt chamberlin= "Wilt holds many scoring records, some of them even on the basketball court!"
Really??.Diferent strokes, different folks..It's humorous no doubt. But gut busting?I dont know..It is one hell of a brilliant time period piece though..
Didn't know Reagan was this funny! Don Rickles rocked, overall great episode. Sad all these talented and iconic people are no longer with us except Mark Spitz. RIP GOATS 🙌🏿
Reagan was funny as hell. He always had a joke up his sleeve. I suspect he hired comedians to write for him sometimes, but he executed the jokes so well, he owned them.
@Marque Markofthebeast Agreed, there's very little in this world that is as it seems. However, if presidents are selected, Hillary would be president right now. The Democratic Party handed her the nomination instead of the more popular candidate. Both major parties, the vast majority of the media, the FBI and the Dept. of Justice, Hollywood... all were in lockstep for her. Whether it was a mistake or not, the people elected Trump.
Deanna Kramer I bet he was really laughing as his people negotiated with Iran not to release the US hostages before the 1980 election. I bet he was laughing when they illegally sold weapons to Iran then funneled the money to buy guns which they illegally sent to the Nicaraguan rebels, even though most of the guns wound up in the hands of the drug cartels. I bet he was laughing during the first 5 years of the AIDS crisis, during which he didn’t mention anything about it even once.
I don’t think that it has to do with being “thin skinned”, but more so with, “I’m sick and tire of your shit, stop putting me down” and now it can be said, while back then you just had to take it. This is my humble opinion.
@Truthfears Guilty , I didn't say always... I just said there were celebs who were who and what they said and appeared. There always were those who presented something, usually because it was a shtick. Dean didn't drink like that, neither did Foster Brooks. Jack Benny wasn't THAT cheap, and Don Rickles was a wonderful and loving man to all who knew him. There were those who had to keep "private things private" too, of course.
California has lived off that reputation for 40 years...it isnt true now anymore, overseas they still know it as it once was it carries that reputation. I would never move to CA if my life depended on it now.
I wish we would have voted for him 3 times, then I could have had the privilege of voting for him twice like kempoguy. Wasn't old enough the first time, but still enjoyed him as president in my youth. I don't think it's possible to ever have one like him as president ever again! :(
Being funny has nothing to do with the era in which people live. Consider "The Office" and "30 Rock", the two best sitcoms of all time - both of them of this modern era.
America has always had a seedy underbelly and insane streak, which is part of our charm, but it probably shouldn't be the primary attribute. But the 70s were about as seedy a time as you can find in our storied history, so I think you might be using rose colored glasses...you gotta go a little farther back for "halfway sane and mostly decent"...and the argument could be made that the human psychology hardly permits the conditions you describe, at any point in human history. But I'd go early 60's and before to get an approximation. ;) I will say that there is a level of class and style going on here that you'd be hard pressed to find these days. These people were the end of an era...one that had Frank Sinatra conducting. By some measure, Reagan was the last statesman.
@Slavic Soldier No, I will not respect a man whose administration sold missiles to Iran to raise money to pay for covert operatives in Nicaragua who supported a rebel group that raped nuns. End of story.
@@RGold-pf2sj we also did alot of good in Central America back then. Our military was doing alot of humanitarian missions there as well. I personally was in Honduras a number of times helping them with infrastructure.
@@soniag4516 - Wrong. Reagan switched from Democrat to Republican in 1964, before he was elected Governor of California. And Trump switched to Republican in 2009. Stop spreading lies.
@@soniag4516 sorry but no President Reagan was a Democrat as a very young man but by his thirties he had switched to the Republican party. He was a staunch Republican even before he ran for Governor of California where he lived and its bury now..
Daniel Sirois : Said that minorities couldn't Vote and women weren't allowed to work. What year is he talking about . He must work at CNN they too tell fact that or made up. He need to go to school on US history . All my Minority friend and i had and have many , Voted and my Mother was over 250 women and 75 men. That is she ran factory. That was at the time this show was on.
@@nybaseball1fan .....what? Care to try again? Also- of course the past isn't perfect. But you cannot judge it by today's standards. The 70's were much better for everyone than earlier years, except for the drugs. As a woman AND a minority (like this matters but I guess it does to you) I love this show. Chill out.
Lmao havve you actually watched these. They drank a lot and were usually drunk. They are racist and they do say some curse words. They smoke a lot of ciggs.
John Harvill: You mean they still HAVE those roasts? Well, I didn't know because I have no interest in Hollywood anymore. Those comics in Dino's time were superb, and they never said one dirty word at those roasts, and they were far funnier than anyone today! I don't doubt for one minute that what you say about today's roasts! Drugs and alcohol, I guess they all do that today. And NOT in moderation either. So society must deal with a bunch of druggies and alkies who can't stand or speak!! Who needs it.
There's a story comic and impersonator Rich Little told about being somewhere the same time Regan was there. The press was there and wanted to ask some questions, but Regan was running late. He told Rich, "You do a pretty good me, why don't you answer the questions?" Rich did, and Regan left. Of course, Rich was answering with jokes and satire of Regan. After a minute or so, he heard something behind him. He took a quick glance and saw Regan in a doorway listening and trying to stifle his laughs.
Can you imagine how El Cheeto would respond to a roast like this? Rickles with the rapid fire barbs about Reagan being dumb...Cheeto Bonito would rudely attack Rickles and say that Rickles was stupid and, get super passive aggressive and, completely NOT be able to handle it in stride as being a friendly and, non-threatening roast by friends...as much as I was NOT a Reagan fan at the time of his Presidency...he is an exponentially better and, more professional, President... How unbelievably low have our expectations fallen...
More selective memory in operation. He likely didn’t understand the humor, especially later in life. His recession was self-induced, and his science understanding is equaled only by Trump. And let’s not forget the Iran-Contra issue.
@@samuelsmith5773 you and Doug might wanna watch the roast of Donald Trump then. He took the insults with a smile and dished out some decent jabs. Y'all complain about how horrible he is but until the pandemic things were good. So what if he doesn't articulate the same way. Sometimes you just have to get things done. We'll come back from the virus too by the way.
This is the governor who signed the first no fault divorce law that ensured economic slavery for millions of men and gave females the hammer to hit men over the head with in family court
Undeniable, he loved America and the American people and did his absolute best to help the country. Not only that he was a decent man and loved his wife and children and did everything he could for them. All round great guy despite what people might think about his policies, the aim was sincere. I agreed with him on 99% of the things he said and did.
@@Toddcinca Yes, he did his absolute best to help rich, white Americans. But black Americans, gay Americans, working people, and old folks on Social Security all continue to suffer because of his retrograde racists policies. Tip O'Neill said it best: "He is the nicest man to talk with, but, when you turn around, he stabs your grandmother in the back."
They were the best of very good times. I now know just how few we had but I enjoyed it now but they have ALL gone but times were so great just to rewind them all is what life can be like. So try to do better if You can every day! Richard
After President Reagan was elected for the first time he gave me hope for this country! I will never forget what you did to this country sir. God bless you mr. President
He was part of the reason I initially enlisted. As a young man at the time, he made me feel a need to help defend this nation against the threat of Russia.
Ronald Reagan was one of the best -- admirable in so many ways, and he had such a great sense of humor! Good man, good husband, good actor, and a good President. RIP, RR. It is fun to watch and listen to the comedy, but I also feel bad that just about every one of those great comedians to got up to speak are gone now, along with Reagan, except maybe Mark Spitz, who is about 78 now if I'm not mistaken. The humor may have insinuated a thing or two that was a bit ribald but no one ever said even one 4-letter word -- just good clean fun (something we are very shy on today) and it is refreshing! Bravo to all the old comics who could make us laugh anyway!
This is a really cool video. The great actors & actresses & audience may not have known they were in the presence of one of the great presidents. Maybe they knew? Great video either way.
I only learned about 'roasts' a couple of years ago - this one is now my favourite! Watching them laughing so hard made me laugh even more. How refreshing it was to watch a black man enjoy a good laugh and not consider it 'racist' when everyone laughed with him! Ronald Reagan was a good sport and a great man. He had a beautiful wife too
How bizarre that his "twin brother" was called "Donald Reagan", considering that Donald Regan would become his Secretary of Treasury and Chief of Staff! Good roast.
Dean Martin Celebrity Roast is one of the best entertainment television programmes of all time. Dean Martin is a great host, he brings sunshine into every stage. His guests are awesome. The Show brings so much laughter and joy to many. RIP All the greats. They'll always be remembered.
Phishean: So true! I lived in Sacramento when Reagan was Governor the first time, back when we were proud of California, which was once the 2nd richest State in the Union, the best in so many ways -- no more, now it's 10th or lower, their Governor, Jerry Brown, has ruined that Golden State, and so many of us who were native Californians have long ago moved away. Brown has and continues to queer any chances of that State being great again. The only wealth is in Hollywood and Silicon Valley, and the heads of those companies live in Seattle or Utah or Idaho -- NOT California, and many can work from home with all the latest advanced technology; you don't have to be "at the office" -- since your office is at home. They'll probably have 3-D, smell-vision, special effects you can see, hear, and feel all around you, that will probably take the place of movies and television as we know it today. Even agricultural companies are giving up and some are moving to the fertile valleys of South Africa to raise their crops! Guess they'll take a chance on the hippos eating their crops and the elephants trampling them, rather than having them dry up and blow away! No, California is no longer the Golden State. Even smart Hollywood citizens (at least the older, smarter ones) are moving and making their primary home away from California and only come to CA if their movie is being made there.
What a terrible president. Union busting, illegal wars financed by CIA drug money, deregulation that haunts us today, trickle down economy that never worked, staff full of crooks ( like Trump) and the ability to ignore facts if they conflicted with his 'beliefs' Just a B grade actor that fooled a lot of Americans - so sad.

Yep, Reagan raised me I turned 12 years old when Reagan was elected in 1980 turned 21 when he left the White House 1988. Greatest President the GOAT. The psychos calling Trump the Greatest are idiots.

This was just a year before Jack Benny died. One of the all time biggest stars, perhaps the biggest star ever on these roasts (and yes including Sinatra). The biggest radio star ever, and his program successfully transitioned to television and ran from the early 1950s to the mid 60s.
One of the best days of my life was when I shook hands with Ronald Reagan. He was running for President, and I gladly voted for him. I never wanted to wash that hand but finally had to.
When I turned 18, Ronald Reagan was the president...it was my honor and privilege to have been able to vote for him for his second term. Rest In Peace, Mister President...one of the best in US history.
Reagan was neither. He wasn't a bad actor nor president, but be totally honest. He held no candle to the greats of either business. No where near as good of a manipulative bastard as the other politicians and actors were and are.
To the team that shared this on youtube, a big BIG thank you! Its so enlightening to feel the way they did the same thing we are doing right now but with such style and class. While holding such a high level of class, style, decency (while saying even indecent things) and to pull off such a powerful humorous roast is just unthinkable today! For todays generation, me included, Its a must for indignified, low class crap to make us laugh that hard I thought. They showed us how wrong we are to think like that. That they can do that while holding their class and yet make us laugh till tears come out! It is possible! and they showed us that!!! And thats why i said thank you! , many of us would never have known if not for such videos here on youtube. Its all class! to the level of legends. I guess this is what made America great. I sort of get the feel now and i sort of can imagine the jawdropping depth and talent they had . Thanks Notorious Top Agency, we now know and can believe again! ...........and im not even from the usa.
It's a cheap Scotsman joke; and there's also stories out there that Fred MacMurrey was real cheap. (Def an insiders joke.) In some respects, Jonathan Winters was a "comedians comedian"
Ronald Reagan was without a doubt the greatest president of my lifetime. One of my great disappointments is that I never had the chance to vote for him. I was only 16 in 1984. I voted for George Bush in 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2004. I suppose that must have been similar to voting for FDR once upon a time...
@cheetah Trump is different, not nearly as classy or reflective....Trump is a warrior, to stand up to the crazed leftists these days we had to have Trump. Trump has surprised the hell out of everyone including the left who vastly underestimated him.
