Mo Rocca does some digging into the Reagan wit and uncovers a treasure trove of jokes - many written by the man himself - in a very humorous look back on a politician who always had a one-liner at hand.
mike force Ofc i know that, but some presidents are ingenious and inventive and come up with smart phrases on their own. And all the Presidents who were good orators did a little of contribution. Like how Obama is great at extemporaneous speech
mike forceHow do you know that I i didn’t know? Some people cannot know when I was trying to say something else but they insist to prove others wrong. Look, I have studied history and watched House of Cards, I know how the Presidency works please. Also, actions aside, Obama and JFK were great orators, far better than Trump
@@markuschelios6891 It was part of a comedy routine lol. It's a joke; he's making light of the fact that he got shot. He probably wanted to quell the fears left in the people after their President was shot by being amusing. Not a lie, it was just a comedic bit.

In the operating room, Reagan removed his oxygen mask to joke, "I hope you are all Republicans." The doctors and nurses laughed, and Dr Giordano Joseph (head of the trauma team) a liberal Democrat, replied, "Today, Mr. President, we are all Republicans." Just wow. Humanity above all.
That's the difference between the political climate of the '80s, and today. The aisle was not so wide and there was a sense of humor about things. You'd never see the Gipper call his opponents "losers" or "sad" or mock them on the podium.
@@HeadHunterSix but in the 1980's, you would have never heard of those, so evil and corrupt as what the Clintons of the past several years have done through illegal fundraising through every imaginable device, ( Uranium Gate and what the Clinton Foundation did to deprive Haiti of needed funds after the hurricane) and you would have never heard of a sitting Senator standing in front of the Supreme Court Building threatening two judges if they did not render the decision that he (Schumer) wanted !! And there was no vice president in the 1980s making a public threat to a foreign country (Ukraine) that if they did not fire the prosecutor going after his son (Biden) they would not get the billion dollars !!
HeadHunter Yeah, Trump can be boorish. I’m glad Obama always tried to unite us and never used constant straw man arguments and divisive identity politics to scare people. Exactly how many riots Trump has had vs Obama is irrelevant though.

Same here. Me: Army, 1982 - 1987. I went to the Reagan Library in 2022. The Saturday he passed I was working some OT in the lab at my employer at the time. When the news broke that President Reagan had passed, I shutdown the lab and headed to a restaurant to watch news coverage. RIP, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

@@Danymok Trump makes self-deprecating jokes all of the time at his rallies. But of course, unless you watch them, you wouldn't know that. However, he is not Regan in that regard. Making good jokes is one thing. Comedic timing is a skill. Reagan had that skill.

People really should look up the time Reagan as President visited the home of a black family who had been targeted by a hate crime. He condemned racial hate right then and there. If he held any other views when he was younger, he clearly changed them.

Biden doesn't represent anything but big business unfortunately. There's no real opposition, there's just big business and big business - one red and one blue yet the same compared to the diversity of other democracies.

Coolio MOO For stating facts? Andrew Heydt What collapse? Are you talking about 2008?! I believe the proper leftwing narrative is that Bush caused the crash with his deregulation not Reagan, unless your talking about some other small recession. In reality however, the housing bubble that was created by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA loans that came in under Clinton is what caused the 08 crash, not deregulation. And he ruined the country?! I'd love to see Trump just kick the crap out of him in 2024, but the SWAMP just isn't going to allow him to be president again, unless he wins in a Reagan type landslide that would overcome any amount of cheating. Unfortunately, those big blue states are so locked in now, you could literally put the corpse of Bin Laden on the ballot with a (D) behind his name, and California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan and probably Pennsylvania would line up in droves to vote for him. If Fetterman got elected in Pennsylvania, the state is what it's always been to the GOP since 88. Fool's Gold.
One of Reagan's jokes about the Soviet Union. A man in the Soviet Union goes to order a new car. He picks out the model and the few options that are available. The auto dealer says, we'll put the order in, come back exactly one year from today to pick up your car. The man says, in the morning or afternoon. "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." --- Ronald Reagan We miss you, Mr. President.
Reagan ran for president campaigning that he’d eliminate the national debt and would remove the departments of education and energy. Yes, you read that right. The debt had come to 800 billion in 200 years. Before he had left it had more than doubled. His plan was to eliminate unnecessary programs and spending. Welfare? He gave a famous speech citing the Chinese proverb “if you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for the rest of his life” Then he cut both welfare and education. Government health programs? Slash. He continued doing this until anything that remotely benefited the common man had been ruined. Then he proceeded to spend many times more than what he removed on military. Ludicrous projects like spending billions renovating obsolete WWII battleships that had no purpose and are being dismantled as we speak. He was an actor and the American people loved it.
