I agree, but I hate to say it, this country just does not have the sorts of stars that rose to the heavens of Broadway, Vegas and the film industry. We will need to do some good housekeeping to rid our nation of the clap trap no-namers that we all seem to be hooked on. How do you ever get innocence and purity back?
Dean was a natural. Even in his movies he was just himself. He had it all and living just came to him. When he lost Dino his son that's when life fell apart. I hope he is at rest.
+Tariq Khan You should be careful of the phrase "a man's man" John Wayne used the same phrase once in describing Rock Hudson, and we know, 'now' a bit more about Mr. Hudson.
Wallace Raymond say what you want about rock Hudson. He was one of the best looking men ever. Women and men adored him. And a man can still be a man and be gay.
What an amazing talent is our Deano but he is not even a comparison to the greatest singer that ever graced us with his presence . on a scale of 1 to 10 a 1 .
I don´t want to make preferences between the two. Dean was a comedian and had an amazing prescence on stage, besides when he sang. Frankie was "the voice". They had their different strenghts but they were so alike at the same time. I admire them both and refuse to compare them. Thanks.
I don't understand why people are comparing to begin with, I wasn't even talking about who was the better singer lol. My original statement was known to be true in Franks inner circle. He loved and idolized Deano because of his calm and cool demeanor. Has nothing to do with Bobby Darin lol. And ya, Bobby Darrin was an amazing singer, but in popular culture he's not even worthy of shining Frank and Deans shoes. He's the guy who's songs you hear, and don't have a clue who's singing it. RIP Dean. RIP Frank.
This is what I call a true performance ! The singer is not only here to sing : he is also here to share a moment with you, to make you feel confortable, to share some stories, etc. Dean is clearly one of the greatest performer I know !
As his producer once said about what Dean told when he call Dean a performer.. Dean corrected his producer of his TV show by saying " I am a personality". And boy was he that. He is the best pain medicine for my choric pain I ever had. Laughter is the best medicine when it comes to Deano.
What a great guy Dean Martin was! Amazing good humor besides great talent and fantastic humor. Most of the drinking was just was part of the stage persona. I attended few of his shows at Caesar's South Lake Tahoe. What a special unique presence to make everybody else feel good and happy. All gone now... why do such talented people have to die too... there should be an exception for them to do what they beautifully do with so many talents singing, talking, do comedy so easily to make any audience forget their problems and smile and laugh. His image, personality and lighting up the stage will be will be in my thoughts and mind for the rest of my life, What a loss to humanity!
My gran just passed hence why I’m listening to dean martin it was her favourite. That is a lovely thought. I hope him and Elvis were there to greet her also. Thank you.
Its not all great. White only establishments were still a thing, the lbgt community was also discriminated, women were treated like inferiors, food wasn't great, healthcare wasnt great, television wasn't great either. I would visit that time for a day but definitely would not live in that era. Despite all the great music, beautiful architecture, etc. It definitely does not outweigh the bad shit from back then.
I absolutely adore Dean Martin… watched him from the stairs as a little girl, it was late at night and my parents were watching him and laughing their heads off. They didn’t know I was there. Dean was magical… yes, he sadly lost his son and now I’ve lost my daughter, I know his horrific pain. There is nothing imaginable to soothe/ease the tragedy & sorrow except continuing to LOVE life as fully as you can! 🤍👼🏻✝️🕊️🌸🪶🪶🪶🙏🏼
I'm so sorry for your loss, its Hart breaking to read comments like yours 😥. But music helps heal, & no one better than Dean Martin. Wishing you a very good day ❤️
+Toni K Yes, Toni. That was his great style. Listen to Perry Como, who was a generation before Dean. Perry Como was Dean's idol and I think I remember Dean saying he got that relaxing style from Como.
+MastaBalla23 A lot use auto tune, not the crazy kesha shit but auto tune that "fixes" the singing which makes it sound clean and "perfect". Now a lot of music sounds fake. During this era and later they didn't have it so they sounded more natural. I think don't quote me on it.
It was like yesterday that I was 14 discovering music that “my generation” was missing out on. Here is the thing though young friend… Music, especially good music never goes away… It waits. Especially for people like you and I, to find it when we need it. Keep discovering🙂
What a gold days when everyone used to seat and listen to the music laughing enjoying every moment... And now everyone is like busy in recording in their phone
I was born in 61 but my MOM Gold bless her soul she played DINO BOBBY PERRY FRANK CONNIE DUSTY ELVIS AND more and made my love of music expand not just classic rock but SINGERS WITH CLASS ! THANK YOU MOM❤
Irma Bosquez i was asking 2 month ago how is this style of music called and no one of you could answer me? And in the other way you guy act like you own that song...lol... I know all styles of todays music. can you answer now my question please?
Watching Dean in his element...he's so natural and effortless in what he does. It's hard to be as impressed with modern performers nowadays. There's more than his singing that made him amazing and addicting to watch. He brought comedy and his charm and told a story regardless what lyrics he was given .
As a teenager, I’m glad I found this music and this singer. I’ve come to appreciate it much more than a lot of the music played today. It’s much more charming.
How can you not like this man!? Geez as I grow older I more fondly recall the times back in the early 70s, Mom and Dad listened to old country music and dean Martin. My Dad sure he drank a fair bit, but he was a good man just like Dean and he was friendly and happy and still alive. I come to RU-vid quite a bit now and all these old songs take me back to a better time.
Une voix exceptionnelle j adore ce chanteur agréable un cloner formidable dommage qu il est parti si tôt actuellement c est ce qui nous manque je me lasse pas de l écouté c est un plaisir pour moi bravo Monsieur Dean Martin 👏😉
I feel so honoured and thankful to my Father for years of listening to the Greats of Dean, Frank, Sammy. Also Louis Prima.....too many to mention, but for this I am ever so thankful
Unvergessen. Da kommen Kindheitserinnerungen hoch. Wunderschön. Lange her. Noch 10 Jahre weiter und es kennt ihn niemanden mehr. Schade, sehr sehr schade.
I'm 58 now and this was the artists we grew up listening to ..our parents an grandparents played these songs all the time..reminds me of the best days back in the 60 when music an artists knew what singing was about..fun an laughter.....rip Dino you old crooner.xxxxx
I was there as teenager in the 50's still love him..sad though that after many years of being a good husband he went into midlife crises and went with several woman and his Jeanne had no choice but divorce so he could marry mistress,,.I still love him and his music .
Jacqui Sparks Don't get me wrong, I love Dean as well so this is not a hate comment, but I'm afraid you have your facts a bit wrong. Yes, he was married to Jeannie for 24 years but he was always known as a womaniser, and in fact he left his first wife Betty, by whom he had 4 children, in order to marry Jeannie. They went on to have another 3 children (and in fact Jeannie also took on and raised his and Betty's kids when Betty turned to drink and became unable to care for them) before Dean left her to marry Catherine, a twenty-something hairdresser. As you say, that was his 'midlife crisis' marriage and, in fact, only lasted three years. He later became reconciled with Jeannie (although they never re-married) and they remained close until Dean died in1995. It's well known that he also had affairs during all of his marriages.
willkittwk Yes, that's probably true, especially considering that's how these two got together in the first place. But, having said that, the more I read and heard about Jeannie, the more I have come to admire and respect her. She must have been a very strong woman to have put up with Deans philandering for more than 20 years, and to take on his first four children from his marriage to Betty and raise them alongside her own little kiddies in what seems to have been a happy family. Especially when you consider that at least two of them were already teenagers (and all older parents know how difficult THOSE years can be, even in a so-called 'normal' family, let alone one that appears until then to have had a somewhat unsettled and nomadic lifestyle with constant house moves and changes of school) when she was still only in her twenties herself.
