Dean was still so naturally handsome at 66 years of age. He had to be the most well liked men in show business. Apparently he listened more than he talked when around other people. So many co-stars singers family and friends talk about his unique way of making everyone around him feel better about themselves. He had such awesome talents as a singer writer actor director boxer dancer stuntman. One of a kind never to be forgotten only cherished. Cheers for upload.
Did he have fantastic talents as a writer, director, dancer ??? You're getting confused with Jerry Lewis. Dean Martin has never read a book in his life, let alone if he was writing one. And he wasn't a director. And the real dancer was Jerry. Which almost made Martin dance. You Dean Martin fans live in another world
@@RonPaulgirls ahahahaha! I don't know what it means (you know I'm Italian), I see that it bothers you a lot when someone tells you the truth. Dean Martin could only sing. You, the toxic Dean Martin fans, make up everything else. Jerry Lewis was the REAL GENIUS. Without him Dean Martin would NEVER have gotten anywhere. And now you continue to offend me. you toxic Dean Martin fans can do just that. And I laugh at it
I'm 22 now, but when I was 18, my brother introduced me to Sinatra & Dino, but I fell in love with Dino. I will never stop listening to his music. How I wish i could have been alive then to see him perform! I'm so glad these videos & his music are here for people to discover forever!
+Josey C Make sure you pace yourself or you'll have seen and heard everything Dino that's available by the time your 25. It's much easier to do today, back in the 80's and 90's it took a real effort to find anything.............
I love Dean. He was in good health till Dino perished in the plane crash--he was never the same after that. What joy that good man gave this world. And fun! Miss you Dean!!
+Barbara Blaizis Good for you! Dean rules - then now and forever. Also be sure to check out his movies - he was a really underrated actor, who made some great choices. "Rio Bravo" is one of my favorites (the duet with Rick Nelson is epic).
rio bravo is my favourite western...and it's much more than a western...it's a heart warming buddy movie. they were all great in that..especially walter brennan.. fantastic performance :)
This was Dean Martin as he really was, very easy going, soft spoken, likable individual. The closest any of us sadly will ever get to see Dean as if he was talking in his living room or den at home. Unfortunately he did not give many of these type of interviews. When you see him with Johnny Carson he's play acting to his show business personna, this was a rare glimpse of the man as he truely is.
Technically he is "alone" in a studio just with a camera and 2 os 3 people... when he went to Carson there were many people, the same during shows... Seems reasonable if he was a private person...
Dean Martin , I can listen to his songs all day long, he is one my old time fav he has such melodic voice and soothing voice no wonder women like him so much . well he has the looks even in his 60s he is so funny in this interview RIP his songs will live for ever
I can't watch this and not smile! Dean Martin was a tremendous talent, the definition of "cool," and by this and other appearances a very likable guy. Thanks for posting this gem of an interview!
I don't think I've every seen Dean Martin doing a straight forward interview---this was most interesting, and thanks for sharing it! I had the great pleasure of seeing both Dean and Frank Sinatra at a midnight softball game for charity back in Atlantic City many years ago--I was just a kid back then, so truly count myself lucky to have been there to see those two greats having fun.
2packs4sure Hi 2packs: I'm thinking it was around 1978 or 1979 and it was held at Bader Field, a little league field just 7 blocks from my home. Only musicians and radio and newspaper people were invited (I helped out on a local radio show on WFPG on a Saturday night big band show, so knew the production manager there--we were great friends, so he took me along). I don't remember much, however, I do remember for the opening pitch, Sinatra threw the ball and Dean Martin was at bat. He kept missing, so they brought out a HUGE beach ball, which Sinatra tossed and Martin finally hit! I'll never forget that! Thanks for asking!
Michael Klein When i read the first part it suprised me the Dean was missing, then it became clear it was a bit when the beach ball came out. Good stuff !
Dean Martin was very illusive to interview. Don Lane (the interviewer) was granted this great interview, at the request of his good friend Sammy Davis Jr. I watched it live on The Don Lane Show in 1983 and remember it well. Dean was a very gracious man.
2packs4sure Can't imagine why it would be taken down, at this point there are no available DVD's or other media relating to his show. It's excellent that you posted this and I thank you , there is too little information about Dean Martin out there, in my opinion, one of the world's greatest balladeers.
webglider1962 It was probably that the guy who posted it closed his youtube page or it was taken down by youtube for some reason. In my opinion everything that is not commercially available video music whatever should be free to share. These companys that have so much great stuff locked up forever should put up or shut up. NBC, BMI, .... are brutal.
Full agreement on that. I also have a problem with the copyright trolls. I have a few piano pieces written a couple of hundred years ago, some group in the States claims copyright which cuts the full potential of the performance I may show. Annoying because I actually make the performance. Too much litigation on bogus copyright claims.
About two years I passed through Dean Martin's small hometown of Steubenville, Ohio. I asked a local where I could find a memorial or a statue of Dean so I could photograph it. To my surprise he said there were none but a sign on a highway outside of town that they named in his honor. "Are you kidding me?" I thought. Here you have this big time star from the 40's through the 70's and all this little Podunk town could come up with was a state highway sign? It's not like he was just born there and left at an early age. He lived in that small town well into his twenties until before chasing his dream in New York. If anyone from Steubenville with some clout or some organizational skills is reading this do yourself a favor and properly memorialize your favorite son.
bthor76 Do they still have the annual Dean Martin Festival there that Deana writes about in her book, or has that died out with the passage of time since he passed away?
They still have the Festival as of this past year. it was in celebration of Dino turning 100. Not sure if its going to be held any longer on account of the person in charge retiring from the postion
Eds Epistle That would be a real shame for it to end but I suppose it will all depend on whether they can find someone who cares enough to keep it going. Also, I suppose, on whether it would bring in enough fans and tourists to make it financially viable for the town, which so often these days seems to be the bottom line when it comes to things like that. Whatever happens in Steubenville, there are still many of us fans around the world who remember Dean with great fondness, and can still enjoy the wonderful entertainment he provided via the modern technology that never even existed back when he was still with us.
This interview clearly shows why Dean Martin was one of the most successful and beloved entertainers. I"m gonna be bold and say i think more beloved than Frank Sinatra. Dean was cool, funny, talented and seem like a fun guy. Too bad this era of show business is gone, but thank God for RU-vid cuz the golden age of Hollywood lives on in these wonderful clips.
Well said and I agree,,,, except,,, I don't think one was more loved than the other to any great degree. They were loved for different reasons, Sinatra was a badass with that amazing voice and HUGE catalog of fabulous recordings and Dino was a hilarious sweetheart of a guy - figure of fun who happened to be a great singer. Dino, probably the best all around entertainer EVER, Frank, greatest singer EVER with A T T I T U D E .... Having said all that,,, I pick Dino,,,,,,,,,,,,, it's close though..... Now that I think of it that whole thing was kind of pointless.........
Awesome clip. All these years of enjoying Dean Martin, never seen this clip. He was an icon crossing many fields of entertainment. Thanks for posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it, the original VHS AND DVD copy I made of it got taken by hurricane Harvey so thank god it's on RU-vid. I had to video capture my own RU-vid post.
Nobody like our Dean! We miss him. My sister and I, Alberici Sisters of The Golddiggers, performed with him within the span of the 70's, 80's and 90's. We wrote a book about it too, Beyond Our Wildest Dreams." It was!! Love the video!!!
Maria Lauren - Riccio What a delight it was to grow up with Dean and Jerry at the front of my life......then Dean performing on the show with you and the Golddiggers! Such talent!
Dean was and will always be a Cool Cat, a Dashing Dude, one of the most handsome Man that ever was. Everything he did seemed so easy. Multi Talented. I wish I could have seen him in Vegas. I Love You. Rest In Heaven.💝💝💝
Every time I watch this I clap my hands with the audience. LOL Dean Martin was so great! And still is! I really miss that guy! He's awesome! Truly a wonderful entertainer (and a wonderful man) in all areas of show business! I cherish my huge Dean Martin collection! Thank you so much for posting this interview! It makes me smile and remember all the great years we all had watching and listening to Dean Martin in movie theaters and on all his TV shows. And listening to him sing on our stereos!
Wow...what a great, down to earth interview! I always put on, "Dean Martin's Italian Love Songs" when I make my spaghetti sauce. But I have to admit, I love his country hits as well. Especially, "What's Yesterday"! Grazie Mille for sharing this! Lou
Dino was very supportive of Marilyn Monroe during the shooting of 'Something's gotta give', when her brain was failing time and again to remember the lines. He was very patient with her.
I’ve listened to him since I was about 10 and I’m 31 now. There is no one in the entertainment industry that brings me as much joy and as many laughs as this man has. From Colgate Comedy Hr with Jerry to Rat Pack concerts, his tv show. And the music 🎶😍😍 ugh….thank you Dino 🙏🏽
@@2packs4sure hey man, I’m an old soul trapped in a young body 😂 he died when I was 5 but I feel like I grew up with this stuff. A bygone era. Thank you for sharing this 🙂
I haven't seen Dean in so long. Having this chance to see him again really brings back memories and the reason why I personally loved the man so much, thanks 2packs4sure
You are such a wonderful host, and so very delightful, I wish that I could watch your show here in California USA. I absolutely LOVE DEAN MARTIN, and he happens to be my favorite Male Singer. I miss Dean every day now that he's gone. His voice was so velvety smooth and soothing, that even my dog loved hearing his music and would lay down and relax. Doris Day was my favorite Female Singer, and her voice was wonderful, because it was the same way, velvety smooth and soothing.
Dean was just very special. He knew of Marilyn Monroe's insecurities, but he fought like heck to keep her grounded. Unfortunately, Marilyn's worst enemy was herself. RIP, Dean.
The Greats are gone and it's hard. BB rounded out my age of greats and now what we got? Yeah bullshit with no heart or soul! I'm not mad but sad. I'll never get to hear anything with heart ever again!
I remember this interview first hand. Never missed The Don Lane Show and this interview was absolutely the best Dino ever did, Fantastic! Vale both to Dino and Don Lane, a true gentleman.
A few years ago for Christmas my nephew then still in high school asked for a CD of Dean's, I was so surprised that he even knew who he was and liked that type of music. He was thrilled I had got it for him.
I live in Lee Major's home town and all we have is a sign and the high school football stadium that he came home and dedicated. I think he may have had it renovated too. It was back 80s or 90s. I had moved away by then and unfortunately didn't get to see him. Six million dollar Man and Heath Barkley the Big Valley. The Fall But! He's still gorgeous ❤️
Thank you for posting this. You don't see too many Dean Martin interviews. This was amazing to see.Dean Martin was amazing at everything he did and seemed so down to earth.I just wish I could have seen him preform live at least once. R.I.P to the king of cool.
My friends are always trying to get me to go to Vegas and i tell them that if they can get a time machine and set it for the 62' - 64' range then we'll talk.
What a great, fun interview. Dean didn't do to many of these things, which is why it was so special. Be honest... didn't you start to smile the moment he came on screen... and didn't you end up with a great big grin on your face when it was over? Dean Martin made people happy. What better commentary can you have for a man's life?
Glad you enjoyed it, the original VHS AND DVD copy I made of it got taken by hurricane Harvey so thank god it's on RU-vid. I had to video capture my own RU-vid post.
I watched this interview live on tv in Melbourne. Dean Martin never came to Australia. His popularity was displayed by the applause from the audience. Now both Dean and the host, Don Lane, have gone.
choff56 People love to say that and Dino Jr's death was a huge blow, but Dean was already getting weak and in failing health by 1987. The point is, if Dean's health had been good in 1987 he most likely WOULD have recovered.
The Don Lane show, I used to watch this every Saturday night as kid growing up in the 80's. The best Australian variety talk show ever and probably the best Dean Martin interview recorded for television. Wonderful memories, so glad you posted this for all to see. Thanks!
Interviewer is Don Lane who had a "tonight" show in Australia. I remember Dean Martin had his TV show broadcast on Saturday nights in the 1960's in Australia. Its was black & white, colour tv arrived here in 1975.
Imagine that: Dino on an Aussie TV show--and the interviewer had no accent whatsoever! (The older he got, the better he looked :)--right up to the last few years of his life :( ) Anyway, 2packs4sure, thanx 4 the upload! "Everybody loves somebody sometime..."
