The song ends abruptly like that because the final note is supposed to flow seamlessly into the next song on the album which is called Ruiner and is also a great song. The whole album The Downward Spiral is great to listen to from beginning to end.

This might be the most iconic song of all time... They even played it on the radio ALLLL the time for years. The "shock factor" when it first came out, from the lyrics, with the madness of this new kind of music.. Never been done before, or ever since.

Welcome to the genre of Industrial Rock. Very abrasive with lots of electronic elements used. Trent Reznor is MASTER of it. He also just wrote the soundtrack to the Disney Movie "Soul". He's basically a damn genius. Next......... NIN - "Head Like A Hole"

Jayy, you should check out the video to this, it is a series of strange images that will make you feel uncomfortable. The song is actually about obsession & self hatred, but most people don't get past the explicit lyrics. It is much deeper than that. Great song, great artist.

Trent rented the house at 10050 Cielo Drive in L.A. to record this album " The Downward Spiral". The house is famous as the location of the Charles Manson murders of Sharon Tate and her friends. Upon hearing of this, Sharon's sister showed up during a recording session to confront Trent of using her sister's name and the murders as a way to exploit her for profit. He began to feel horrible afterwards and decided to leave the premises to take the studio to New Orleans but not before removing the front door where the infamous word "Pig" was written in blood in 1969 and taking it with him. It now sits today, installed in the New Orleans studio.

This song is the 5th track from the concept album, The Downward Spiral, which basically tells the story of a man's descent into addiction and depression. I've read that it is about Trent and I've also read that it isn't, so I don't know. But, at that time he was dealing with addiction issues and mental illness. This song isn't about the obvious. It goes much deeper than that. I also want to point out that it's probably a good thing that you didn't watch the video. Trent's mind, while it appears it could be a scary place, it's absolutely on the genius level! Welcome to the Industrial Rock genre!

My all time favorite band! Trent Reznor has a special, genius way of making music. Its thought provoking, a little uncomfortable at times and deeply personal for him. He really enjoys the sounds of 'noise" and makes beautiful music out of it. Often times people make the comparison between him and Prince because they both play multiple instruments and sing and produce. He now does the score for so many films and shows out now. They just got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame along with my other favorite Depeche Mode. To suggest any song by them to react to is so hard because I love them all....React to them all lol. Ok, ok...try Hurt live, Were in this together, Starf**kers Inc., Downit it, March of the pigs, Sin, Wish, The hand that feeds, Happiness in Slavery(be warned) and listen to the audio of Something I can never have. One thing you should all be aware of, Trent Reznor is NIN and when he did this album he was trading his time in the studio for mopping the floors and cleaning the toilets and basically being a Janitor just to make this shit happen on his own. Yes, people that is right everything on this whole album was only him. He wrote every track and laid them down separately then scrubbed toilets to put them together. This man deserves so much props it's not even funny.

This is the same man who wrote the original "Hurt", which you heard Johnny Cash sing. But, as a huge NIN fan, I would recommend starting from the beginning.... his first album "Pretty Hate Machine" is a masterpiece. Like Pink Floyd Dark side of moon.. one song runs into another. But, I would recommend "Down in it" and "Ringfinger" and if you are feeling rebellious, then "Head like a hole"

I knew this was gonna be a good one the second I saw the title. NIN Closer. 'Nuff said. BTW - I'm from Cleveland, and that's were Trent Reznor got his start and ultimately created Nine Inch Nails. It's mostly himself on vocals and all instruments. He got his start in a recording studio doing janitorial work, and asked the manager of the studio if he could lay down his demos for free in return for waxing the floor. The manager let him. Those tapes turned into the Pretty Hate Machine album and the rest is history. Trent doesn't get the credit he deserves today for really bringing about the end of the big hair 80s (that everyone was really sick of anyway) and rocked rock n roll to beyond it's core. NIN wasn't really grunge as much as Nirvana or Pearl Jam but brought about more of the deeper hard rock of the 90s like Alice in Chains and Marylin Manson.

The real deal in this song is that long instrumental bit at the end and you reacted to that and it was perfect! You get it! It's classic music with shocking lyrics attached. Those lyrics are part of it but they are the hot sauce on the main meal. Credit to you for appreciating the meal.

I remember during the 90s lots of church groups liked to circulate "lists" that featured musicians and groups whose cds they wanted slapped with those "warning" labels. They'd have these very long-winded complaints about people like Marylin Manson etc. But when they got to Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor all they said was, "brothers and sisters lets just all pray for this young man." HILARIOUS he was one of my favorite artists before that but that pretty much cemented him on my list!!! ....fiddlestick???....

Jayy Girl!!!! Love your facial expressions! The shock! This song is a classic. I know it well and used to jam to it in rock bars. Nine Inch Nails are legendary not just for this song. They have the song "Hurt" which the legend Johnny Cash did a cover of not long before he passed away. Johnny saw the talent. You should react to both versions! Also Trent Reznor is brilliant. He does so many movie soundtracks and has won awards!
