@@Caleb6801 I'd beg do disagree, it has definetly improved over the past 6 - 10 months, I've had the same xperia e5 for over 2 years now. When I first got it I could barely run the app, and a couple months ago while i was still using it the app worked just fine! the quality got a lot better and it is a lot smoother
This is the literal reason for why my generation thinks android cameras suck No like there is an actual snap lens called "Android Quality" witch makes your pic 20 pixels
*F I N A L L Y* a youtuber with a humongous ass platform who speaks on the android vs iOS optimization issues when it comes to Snapchat (speaking as the android user I am, of course). endless props marques, hats off. _imo same thing happens with instagram stories/live/rewind all that 24h only stuff_
...and this is why I use Instagram (and Twitter) far more than Snapchat. Android users like me are getting shortchanged. I have a Pixel 2 XL, and even with the Visual Core chip, it still could be better if the app we're up to snuff.
That's how I started using it. I made a profile years ago but never used it until a girl started sending me nudes. Now I actually look at to see what people post.
chimaera41 actually he's not. The real problem is that the subscribed content is almost hidden now. That's like instagram killing it's core content that you subscribed to and only showing discovery. It's inexplicably stupid. Snapchat was surviving despite number sellouts who failed to appreciate the intimacy value of snapchat but this feels like a snapchat suicide. It's like they urinated on everything and proudly asked their users to gobble it up. It's incredibly tonedeaf. Remember when ray william johsson ended his show for a moment and the 10m audience never returned. If they don't change back instantly this is it.
It's better now on my OnePlus 7 Pro, they mainly prioritize iPhone becuase more iPhone users use it, plain and simple. But things like Facebook work REALLY well with Android... Because more Android users use it. Nothing about the acually phones and how alot of Apple users (not all) say it's "shitty and laggy". The last time it was laggy was in 2013 when the first touch screen Androids came out... But it was the same at first for EVERYONE, even Apple since it was so new at the time!
Aida Amore Do this: Delete the app Redownload the app Type in your username and click forgot password Change your password Log back in And it will go back
Snapchat is not dead. They'll react to what's going on in the market and come back with full force. Also, current power user's of SC should give their fanbase an incentive to continue using SC. It can simply start as using their stories as a medium of exclusivity for their content or whatever.
Thank you for calling them out on the android optimization issues. It's been like this since forever! If Instagram can do it like they do with stories, then snapchat can do it.
Snapchat’s new update actually boosted discovery.... but only for celebrities. If you look on the new discover tab, you will start to see stories of celebrities Snapchat’s that you aren’t “subscribed” to. Having said that, I think it’s incredibly annoying that I know see post Malone hitting a blunt or some shit when I didn’t sign up for it. The alternate bad side to the update is that less people now see your personal story as they are mixed in with the direct sending page, burying some stories the bottom never to be seen.
Every modern Android OS and even slightly older ones have standardized Camera APIs tho which every app developer can easily use. There's no excuse for Snapchat to not use this API and instead trying to implement their own crap.
The problem is that version 2 of the camera API (the one that lets you take better photos) was released with Lollipop. Roughly half of all Android devices are still pre-lollipop, which means half of Android users will be unaffected if Snapchat supports the new API. That being said, it's still astonishing that such a big company can't put the RnD into supporting both apis.
I wouldn't say Snapchat Android OS developers are lazy. It's just they might not fully realize that Android isn't one size fits all. Just like Marques said Snapchat and other major apps are fixated towards the 2-3 iPhones. And that's REALLY easy to work with. However, Snapchat simply hasn't converted yet. It's a simple update that they could work on doing, but hey I'm not sure where their priorities are at. Just my thought on the matter.
LimitedWard "Roughly half of all Android devices are still pre-lollipop", Nope!. 82.3% are on lollipop and above. Lollipop 24.6%, Marshmallow 28.1%, Nougat 28.5%, Oreo 1.1%
I personally think streaks are one of the dumbest concept and things to ever exist in the modern world, like they don't harm or cause anything bad, but it's one of the most unnecessary things ever and people use it to think they're cool for it
I disagree with some of your points because for me I don’t want to be discovering creators on Snapchat, I can do that on Instagram. I want to use Snapchat to talk to my actual friends and view their stories. The new update completely hinges on discovery, that’s why everyone hates it. The majority of its users are not interested in that in the slightest on Snapchat.
Agreed. I think Instagram is where most people go to discover or find new pages and people. And Snapchat is more personal for friends and family I don’t want to see things on there from people I didn’t add
I have an S8 Plus and I notice the quality difference between Iphone and Android on Snapchat, but I totally agree with you. The top end Android phones do deserve more attention from snap because if we pay good money for a nice camera on a high end device, we should get the same high quality through Snapchat.
No don’t get me wrong. I have an iPhone 8 Plus. But I have friends with a $929 Samsung galaxy note 8. The note 8 in some ways is better than the new iPhone X. I believe the s8 and the note 8 should have a camera in Snapchat and not just a screen grab. To prove my point take the pixel 2. This is an android phone, but yet it uses a actual camera, not a screen grab. This goes to show you that Snapchat developers are pulling favorites toward iPhone users even though android users with high end phones deserve the respect they give us. Even Marques brown knows because his favorite phone is the pixel 2.
Maybe watch the video before posting a comment. He said that he doesn't have the update on any of his devices but other people are bad-mouthing it. What more do you want? Should he make stuff up?
wunnell ....First of all, I have no idea why you're so triggered. I did watch the video, I watched all of it. I was busy doing other things while listening to him talk. And what I said, was I thought there would be MORE about it. Jesus Christ, you guys are annoying.
Just a daily reminder that all Android phones have shared APIs for talking to the camera. You don't need to rewrite your backend for every phone on the planet, that would be ridiculous.
DJ - Rocket Man - you obviously never experienced an android flagship, both platforms are amazing and have their advantages and disadvantages, you can't hate the platform as a whole for those idiotic reasons
Well said. I think that even the idea of simple messaging and sharing of individual videos is served well enough by Instagram now too that Snapchat doesn't need to exist for that purpose either.
I don't want to discover on Snapchat. I just wanna connect with my friends people I know. So it's fine if they don't support creators, it's not that kind of platform.
Snapchat vs Insta is like whatsapp vs twitter... Whatsapp&snapchat are more for like personal communication, insta&twitter being the open social media plattforms
GregWolf thank you!! Instagram is like a way to share snapshots of your life with a lot of people. It has a profile and a bio, it tracks your life. Snapchat is temporary. Short timeshots that arent meant to create a profile of you. Its a way of checking in. Snapchat is still spontaneous, if my aunt can just create a Snapchat and add me its no longer cool. MKBHD like most other celebrities treat snapchat as a profile. The key is to treat it like a vlog almost of random shit that happens throughout your day.
The-One-And-Only Well to be honest both are hybrids. The difference is which way it goes first. For example insta is very open by default, so is twitter. You can actively decide to send dm's and private messages but it's not that way by default. Whatsapp and snap are the other way around. Private by default but with the option of open social media functions like stories...
At least not as much as Microsoft. They went out of their way to remove Snapchat and anything like it from the Windows Phone back when people wanted it
Snapchat should see this video and learn from it. Tons of people still use the Snapchat and they can come a long way and towards improvement by implementing better support for their Android devices as the Android user base is pretty high. Let's face it, Instagram and Facebook stories are going to be taken over completely unless Snapchat steps up their game and fix these issues. Especially fixing the photo quality, like how MKBHD has highlighted here. Still a big believer in Snapchat, hopefully they'll strive to improve.
I 100% agree with this. A lot of people are saying in the comments that Snapchat is going to end up dying out. I don't believe that's going to happen right now. SC can easily compete with Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. I'm looking forward to what SC has up their sleeves this year and I want to see things work for the better. Especially with Android.
Jacob Eden it is server-side not client-side, I use a VPN (virtual private network) on my phone and when the VPN is on I have the update and when it's off I don't. Basically it's applied to your network not your phone
JJ J probably won’t help... I intentionally didn’t update mine because I saw how bad it was from a friend and then the next day I woke up with the update installed
Justin Clark if anything, they should do it on the top Android phones. Samsung S8, LG V30, LG G6 (my phone), Samsung Note 8, etc. They may not want to spend time in the low phones and thats understandable. There's hundreds of android phones. But there's only about 10-ish android phones that are super well known.
Don’t forget that Snapchat only lets you to be logged into one device at a time I always have to sign back into my Snapchat when I use my XperiaPremium and my iPhone X each time I go into the app on the other phone it’s signs out the other one and requires me to sign into the current phone I’m trying to use which I guess I could just use one phone but since I carry both with me I like to not have to think about which phone I’m signed into
Louis Asbery if you can’t read a run on sentence you should probably go back to school last I checked Siri and google don’t add punctuation and it’s fucking RU-vid who gives a shit go troll somewhere else
@@lightscameras4166 I've actually noticed more of my friends are switching over to Android phones now, I made the switch from iOS to Android a little over a year ago. I think the reason Snapchat only cares about iOS is because it's easier to optimize, despite that the majority of the global population who own smartphones own Androids. iPhones are really only extremely popular in America, there were far more people using Androids that I noted while on Christmas vacation in Germany, France, and Belgium.
Same, also got the OP8 Pro, and it just looks terrible. It’s understandable why it is how it is, but still, I still avoid using the camera in 3:rd party apps.
contact this authentic hacker for the great job he did for me and his prices are affordalbe. @ alvinspy on Instagram there are alot of fake accounts impersonating him. for any type of hacks and recovery, He is affordable and reliable. he helped me expose my cheating girlfriend . He’s also on whatsapp +18068280062
Ok ok. This actually annoys me A LOT. Just because snapchat picture quality on android is garbage, doesn't mean the actual camera quality is bad, and I have come across so many people who just think androids have the worst cameras ever just because all they do is use snapchat. Not only that but they think androids are horribly slow because snapchat works terribly on their android phones or they see somebody's snapchat story and it looks like a 140p video because it comes from an android phone. This gives Android phones a terrible image, and I wouldn't doubt if Apple was in cahoots with snapchat to make this possible to be completely honest.
Nichita Well, it’s one of the reasons to choose iPhone over Android. App developers devote so much more time to iPhones so apps always will run better on an iPhone, and who knows if that will ever change. And it’s not just Snapchat, it’s like that with all apps. iPhones are far more optimized, and that is not a debatable fact. On an even playing field, sure, maybe androids can compete, but it’s not a level playing field, so it doesn’t matter.
Nichita yessssss! Preach. I get into the SAME argument over and over again with diehard Apple users claiming “Android picture quality look like trash on Snapchat” is why they stick to iPhone. Are you ###($ kidding me! You handcuff yourself to one phone company just for one APP?? Then I constantly have to explain its Snapchat’s fault, NOT the phone. But they don’t care, they would rather deal with having to constantly carry a stupid dongle for the Aux than lose their precious snaps . Millennials. Smh
Kevin Deegan but that's exactly the point though. We shouldn't have to find this obscure tip from a RU-vid comment section. It should be visibly integrated in the platform.
Not a diss...just spreading the word from a huge population to a company that will most likely consider this as it's MKBHD. it's like he's our voice 4 the people
Snapchat is definitely more for private messaging and more personal stories, given the whole it disappears thing and how strictly screenshots are taken. But I do agree that you can't really branch outside of your friends list if you don't have them on Snapchat. Quick add was a good idea but this new Snapchat update just makes things harder and worse to use. The sad thing is that I'm not switching because my friends and I are so involved in Snapchat. I think Snapchat should focus more on a personal story thing than a discover content kinda thing. It's just not what it is used for
I agree that insta wins for view counts and celebs/creators but there are unique features of snapchat that make it my favorite social app: 1. It's apolitical (most important) . No likes, favorites, view counts, or reposts. There are no public metrics for a "successful" post. 2. Novelty. Snaps (outside of text chat / gallery uploads - lame) are almost always unique pictures that no one has ever seen before. 3. True ephemerality. It's an etch-a-sketch. You won't ever cringe at a tweet you sent 4 years ago or a fb selfie album from high school. for reference, im about your age and have an android. i still fuck with snapchat.
Plus, other than the glorified tabloids they keep pushing, I don't really have to see anyone I don't personally choose to see. I don't have to even lay my eyes upon obnoxious "comedians" or "hack" videos if I so choose.
