A few assorted thoughts on Smash Bros characters in Death Battle: - Ness vs. Razputin was once a decently popular match-up, but it's since fallen out of favor. This is probably for the best, because Raz gets squashed by Ness. I think Lucas is weaker than Ness, but he probably beats Raz, too. - Whis vs. Rosalina strikes me for reasons I don't quite understand, but I'm starting to really like it. - I much prefer Ridley vs. Vilgax, who are both brutal space-faring warlords who keep coming back to torment this one hero with a rare piece of alien technology. - Simon and Arthur both star in horror-themed platformers for the NES. Tragically, Arthur doesn't have a chance in hell of beating Simon, given how immensely powerful Simon would have to be to beat Dracula multiple times. - King K. Rool vs. Blackbeard is interesting because there's an official figure that depicts Blackbeard as a hippo, which makes sense because he's actually extremely dangerous in spite of his rotund, comical appearance. As you can imagine, hippos and crocodiles are not very friendly to each other. - I wish Shining Force, Sega's fantasy strategy RPG series, was more popular because then we could get some Fire Emblem vs. Shining Force match-ups. Max from Shining Force 1 is my most wanted opponent for Marth, but I doubt most people in the fan community, let alone the general viewership for Death Battle know who he is. - I really like the idea of Robin vs. Revan, who are both amnesiac customizable heroes from RPGs who secretly have close ties to the villainous faction of their respective settings. Pretty sure Revan clobbers Robin, though. - I heard Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair is actually pretty good. I still think Banjo and Kazooie take this one, though.

2:17 I'd prefer G&W vs Oswald the Lucky Rabbit since it's a bit more thematic to me imo. Both are some of the oldest characters that Nintendo/Disney have made and are both older than Mario and Mickey Mouse respectively.

I honestly think Olimar and his Pikmin should fight The Smurfs. They’re around the same size, can do some incredible things when they work together, and both groups tend to follow a single leader that usually wears red (Olimar and Papa Smurf)

My ideas for alternates for some of these matchups: Ness vs. Neku Sakuraba (The World Ends With You) - Both are the teenage psychic main characters from cult hit RPGs on Nintendo systems. I think Raz is a great opponent for Lucas and Crono is a great opponent for Erdrick/Hero, and they were also picks I had for Ness, so with them getting better matchups for Smash characters, Neku is a good match for Ness. Ice Climbers vs. The Bubble Dragons/Bub & Bob (Bubble Bobble) - P1 & P2 duos from classic NES action games. Meta Knight vs. Bass (Mega Man) - Zero has already been in Death Battle and won, so I don't really look to him for a match-up. Aside from that, Bass is also an edgier rival character to a cute, power-copying hero (Mega Man), like Meta Knight is to Kirby. Little Mac vs. Eddy Gordo (Tekken) - I don't want to put Little Mac against another boxer because then the triangle theory of boxing would come back into play, and it would just be Balrog vs. T.J. Combo again, where the character on the right side of the triangle wins. Just one fight like that is probably enough. So, I was looking for a fighting character well known for using a kick-based fighting style to contrast against boxing and Eddy seemed to fit without being too OP. Palutena vs. Arceus (Pokemon) - Powerful celestial figures of Nintendo series with large pantheons. Inkling (or Agent 3 to use a more specific character) vs. Zac (League of Legends) - Action characters who use slime/messiness for their main methods of attack. Lucina vs. Selvaria Bles (Valkyria Chronicles) - A Nintendo vs. Sega battle with the most well-known female characters from their two strategy RPG series. A lot of the ones you came up with were good matchups though. I didn't even think of some of those.

I actually unironically want Wii Fit Trainer vs Nigel Thornberry from Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Both are extremely passionate about their respective crafts, excercise and nature, and share their passions with others through the TV [Wii Fit Trainer being an excercise coach and Nigel shooting nature documentaries]. Both were unexpectedly added to crossover platform fighters, where they would fight by using what they've learned from their respective passions to form their own unique style of martial art where they manage to cause harm to foes by striking various poses, with Wii Fit Trainer working various excercises into her style and Nigel immitating various animals. Plus they both look extremely weird, with Wii Fit Trainer's pale, blank face and Nigel being a Klasky-Csupo character.

4:04 For Villager, the Farmer from Harvest Moon would be a good opponent for him/her. Both are player avatars that help around in there respective villages and undergo various tasks, whether that be paying off a loan, running a farm, designing a town or traveling through a mine. As well as, both being able to hold a large number of heavy items on them and using different tools, such as: watering cans, axes, slingshots, pickaxes, and shovels. That and both customize and expand their homes. Also, I think Kuriboh from Yu-gi-oh would be a good opponent for Jigglypuff, and Jet the Hawk from Sonic the Hedgehog would be a good matchup for Falco.

Edit: This was very epic, nice that you included my favorite Kaminari and Pichu mu (although I’m guessing you had 0 clue I liked it) and yes, Kaminari wins I have done research. Also personally I prefer Elsword for Roy (Fire sword wielding red heads of royalty) but overall very epic video Mr Weed.

Ness gets past the timeline reset pretty easily. Little known fact about him is that he has access to some insane fate manipulation from the Truth of the Universe. Hes also omnipresent. The thing is, he's technically the entirety of the EarthBound space-time, which contains five different dimensions (standard 4, plus the 4th Dimensional Slip, an entirely different spatial realm). As such, it stands to reason that Ness would be 5-D as well. Ness’s fate hax being used to change the odds against Giygas, a being superior to Ness in strength would be able to come up with some sort of way to remove Frisk's resetting from the equation.

Coming back to this to list off some matchups I’ve thought of in the time since. Not for everyone, though, because good lord. If anyone else has brought any of these up already, I’m sorry. (Oh, and while I’m at it, I also included alternate matchups for some of the opponents brought up in the video for funsies.) Anyway, going in roster order and excluding anyone that’s already in DB, there’s: - Ness VS Eleven (EarthBound VS Stranger Things): Psychic kids from retro time periods who have faced otherworldly threats to mankind with a ragtag group of other kids. From what I know, this is a gargantuan stomp for Ness, but the thematic connections are neat, at least. - Lucina VS Mulan (Fire Emblem VS Disney): Female warriors who disguised themselves as men and fought in wars for reasons having at least some relation to their fathers. A fairly easy Lucina win, and hopefully it wouldn’t take place in a modern day warehouse again. As for Grovyle, my preferred matchup for his line is Sceptile VS Maypul, but for PMD Grovyle specifically, I’ve got nothing. - Roy VS Mustang (Fire Emblem VS Fullmetal Alchemist): Fire wielders named Roy who set off on a mission spurred by the death of a dear ally (Hector and Hughes respectively). I’d root for FE Roy, but I honestly don’t know enough about the matchup to say 100% either way. - Ike VS Siegfried (Fire Emblem VS Soulcalibur): Wandering mercenary heroes on a quest to avenge their fallen fathers. Not sure who wins, could go either way, rooting for Ike. As far as Guts is concerned, his FE-related fight is with Dimitri anyway. - Little Mac VS Rocky Balboa (Punch-Out VS Rocky): Average joes who boxed their way to the top against outrageous competition thanks to their unorthodox coaches. From what I’ve seen, this is surprisingly close. Personally, I’d bet on Mac, but I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if Rocky pulled out a win. - Palutena VS Cetrion (Kid Icarus VS Mortal Kombat): Green goddesses of life and light who are sisters to death and darkness deities, as well as bestowing blessings onto those who fight on their behalf. Ideally, Palutena should have this, but given the kinds of numbers they gave Pit way back when, it’s anyone’s guess. - In relation to Pac-Man, I moreso wanted to have a quick tangent about Yusuke, purely because I’m eternally perplexed as to why I see them matched up against each other so often outside of “they hunt ghosts”. Personally, I prefer Yusuke VS Reimu, but that’s a topic for another day. - Corrin VS Rain (Fire Emblem VS Mortal Kombat): Water-wielding nobles of divine blood out to reclaim their birthright. I’ve heard people say Corrin wins, I’ve heard people say Rain wins, and between those two camps, I’m in the former. FE bias aside, I’m pretty sure Corrin scales to higher stuff, but I don’t know enough about MK to say if that’s currently the actual case. - Ridley VS Vilgax (Metroid VS Ben 10): Galactic conquerors who continue to haunt their series’ main characters no matter how hard they try to be rid of them. I don’t really mind who wins either way, but I’ve more commonly heard Vilgax as the victor, which would be nice for the more diehard Ben 10 fans after the controversy of Ben VS Hal. Alternatively, there’s Ridley VS Xenomorph Queen, which has a nice “inspiration vs original” angle, but is also a pretty cut-and-dry Ridley W. In regards to Rayquaza, meanwhile, I’d personally put it against Gamera, but I also know there was a Brandon Yates commission track for Rayquaza VS Bahamut. - Hero VS Warrior of Light (Dragon Quest VS Final Fantasy): Premier heroes from Square Enix’s biggest RPGs. I think the winner here really depends on how they handle the Hero, most likely the Alef (DQ1), Erdrick (DQ3), or Luminary (DQ11), and if/how they scale to each other. Even still, I don’t know extensively enough about either of them to say who wins.

I really like Bowser Jr VS Eliana from Rivals of Aether. They’re both small reptilians that pilot flying machines with tons of weapons and are associated with flying armadas, (though while Bowser Jr led one, Eliana tried to join one then vowed to destroy it when she was denied). It is a definitive Bowser Jr win even with the RoA mountain-level scaling, but it still seems fun. Plus, the music potential is great, with any number of the banger Bowser Jr boss themes and Full Steam Vengeance (my favorite Rivals of Aether song) for Eliana being great source material.

Cool idea

Simon Belmont vs Arthur was one I was pushing for a lot when Death Battle was in its first and second seasons. Now that they've outgrown the Screw Attack branding and go to video games less and less, I wouldn't be surprised if they put Simon against a different vampire hunter from a non-video game source.

I really want to see Ridley VS Taniks from Destiny. Both are space pirate villains who keep coming back to life. Plus, both have a vendetta against major characters in their series, with Ridley obviously being Samus' arch enemy and Taniks having history with Cayde-6.

You forgot Dr. Mario, but added the different versions of Link, so I’ll help fill you in on what to use for the doc. Apparently, the Medic from TF2 and/or Plague Knight from Shovel Knight would actually be a good fit, either one works. For the Medic, both doctors are risk-taking health experts on the field of experimental procedures that can help or make things worse, but have done the impossible and truly care for their friends despite the madness of their efforts. And Plague Knight has no medical background, but is more projectile eccentric, utilizing tricky setups and platforms to work around obstacles, like Doc Mario. As for who wins, Medic caps out at Small Building level and Plague Knifht reaches City to Island level depending on what you believe, but Doctor Mario can beat Medic either way. For Plague Knight, however, you have to assess if Doctor Mario can be called a separate entity from normal Mario and only compare the Doctor to his own feats (which sounds stupid but let’s roll with it). If you say yes, Plague wins. If not, the Shovel Knight series achieves a second loss.

Good video, the only thing that didn't sit right with me were the choices for the FE match ups (except Roy's that one was pretty good, and I understand Marth since you said you can't pit characters from smash against each other), thought I'm also a big FE fan since it's my favorite franchise so I'm kinda stubborn when it comes to the series' MU's and since you said to go over other MU's in the comments I figured might as well say it, except for Chrom and Robin, cause I have no clue who they 'd fight. Finally while I'm not gonna go into detail here, but if you want Guts to fight an FE character Dimitri (FE Three Houses) is a FAR better choice. Marth VS Erdrick (Dragon Quest): Iconic NES/SNES RPG heroes who one day saw their fathers killed by the forces of an evil wizard, and vowed to avenge them. After defeating said wizard they find out that they're just a pawn to an evil monster, only to beat them and enter a new era of peace, and sow the seeds for heroic legacies thousands of years after they're gone. Winner: Erdrick, he has every possible advantage, better speed, better AP and dura, and WAY better hax. Ike VS Siegfried (Soul Caliber): Both stoic, quiet, yet heroic mercenaries (yeah Siggy starts off as a knight but becomes one later) who try to stop and evil force while also protecting a relic of the gods that risk's them going mad, and ending the world. Later on both confront the gods of said relics directly, defeating said god and return the world to peace. Winner: Ike, this is the closest fight on here by far, and I've seen some solid arguments for Siggy winning, but imo Ike just barley takes it. Nhil would prevent Siggy from using his hax, and Aether would make Siggy's better dura moot. Top that off with Ike being way faster than a haxless Siggy and yeah I think Ike wins. Lucina VS Kitana (Mortal Kombat): Princesses clad in blue who lost their homes to an evil invader who now has control of the land and it's denizens. Who at some point time travel to stop said rule from ever happening. Winner: Lucina, she just stat stomps. Corrin VS Luke von Fabre (Tales Of): Sheltered princes, who's kingdoms are on the verge of war due to unseen forces and it's up to them to stop it. Both are pacifists who hate killing, but will do so if it's to protect their friends, and their sheltered upbringings make them unaware of the world around them or how hard their people have it. Both find out they aren't actually who they thought they are, after finding out about a secret kingdom. Both confront their true heritage, end the war using their unique powers to stop their true fathers, who were going to end the world all together and build from scratch. Winner: Luke, just read Erdrick again. Byleth VS Rean Schwartzer (Trails of Cold Steel): Quiet teachers of anime schools that specialize in combat, and raise nobility, both teachers also have a unique ancient power. After a couple of years both eventually have to prove themselves and go to war. Winner: Rean, read Lucina WOW that was long, but hey I REALLY want FE's DB's to be good and I think these are the best MU's for the people here, if you for some reason actually read all of this, thanks for your time!

This is one off the top of my head that I slowly began to think about. Pyra/Mythra v.s Talion/Celebrimbor (from Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor/War) Two warriors bound together for whatever reason. Honestly, I've never played Xenoblade, but I think it could be interesting seeing what is essentially a tag team match. Talion has a lot of options for all combat ranges, he can debuff with curses and poisons, call in allies and monsters, and maybe drain/dominate them. His shadow strikes, deadly specters, and focus could keep up with foresight, and he always has stealth as an option. He would probably lose, but now that I'm thinking about it, I can't stop.

Ness vs frisk gave me a fight or flight response because of how the UT fandom would react to any of their characters losing ever. Also is there any matchup for steve that isn't terrarian?

When I first watched this and saw Young Link (Hero of Time) vs Kid Goku, I thought nothing of it. Besides the connections you mentioned, I just saw it as a "Younger version of heroes" fight and didn't find it interesting. Today however I was thinking about it and remembered "Both the Hero of Time and Kid Goku both unintentionally get engaged to a princess" and then after that I thought "And they both lost their parents in tragic events they were too young to remember" and then thought "And they were unaware of their true species as they were raised with a different species and only later in their adult lives did they learn the truth" and once I realized they actually had a lot more in common I actually really want to see this. The fact that this is before Z means Goku wouldn't be as crazy as he is now, having the Spirit Bomb, Instant Transmission, Super Saiyin Forms, Kaio Ken, etc and would just have the Kamehameha, his Power Pole, Nimbus and Senzu Beans which sounds like a far cooler fight against Link with his sword and shield, bow and arrows, bombs, boomerang, etc. I just imagine Kid Goku attacking Link with his Power Pole and Link blocking each hit with his shield, just seems cool. Also since this is before he permanently removed his tail, that would mean his Great Ape form could be involved which gives you the potential of a giant battle as Link has the Giants Mask which would make him just as big so you could have giant Link slugging it out with Great Ape Goku. I forget if he loses this mask if he gets the Fierce Diety but if he does, then he gets the Fierce Diety vs Great Ape Goku which still sounds cool. Link also has a perfect counter to this with the Ocarina of Time, if he plays the Song of Passing he could instantly make it morning, removing the full moon and reverting Goku to normal (and unconscious). Because of all this, I now 100% want to see this fight, I think this is the second matchup you have sold to me and I am sure there is more I just am not thinking of atm.

If I was to make a list like this I would have gone with ice climbers vs madeline and badeline from Celeste as they are both a duo of mountain climbers who have one member in blue and the second in pink/purple (This doesn't mean the matchup is fair though Madeline and badeline stomp)

For Pythra, I want to think William Vangeance/Patri from Black Clover for sharing the same body, but different powers (also Patri and Mythra use light and are the older of the duo while William use magic and the quest of XC2 is the world tree), though I would think the death battle would be moreso with Rex, so I don’t know.

You’d think the obvious matchup would be Corrin vs Dovahkiin. Humans born with the souls of dragons, and given access to powers specifically for killing dragons

My first instinct for Ice Climbers was Madeline and Badeline. They are both duos who are related in some way and come from platforming games centred entirely around climbing a mountain. I want to believe Madeline wins, given she clearly has some sort of abilities, especially when combined with Badeline, but I don't know if the Ice Climbers have anything to hit back with aside from just hammers.

I personally would've done - Falco Lombardi vs. Joe the Condor (Gatchaman): Cocky bird-themed teammates in their respective crews. Wolf O'Donnell vs. Calo Nord (KOTOR): star themed bounty hunters . Marth vs. Rafael (Soul Calibur): Fencing pretty boys. Robin vs. Ramza (Final Fantasy Tactics): Battle of the tacticians. Corrin vs. Ryu (Breath of Fire): Dragon-themed warriors. Little Mac vs. Dudley (Street Fighter): more appropriate boxers. Sheik vs. Vega (Street Fighter): Elegant, but deadly warriors. To name a few off the top of my head.

I personally think Byleth should fight Rean Schwarzer from The legend of heroes: Trails of cold steel series. Both of them are sword fighters, both are professors and they are both from JRPG’s. The biggest similarity is the whole professor thing tho but it still would be a pretty fitting match.

Incineroar vs Leomon could be really fun. If I remember correctly, leomon dies pretty easily, and Incineroar can tackle an explosion that's so powerful that it one shot MACHAMP, so it'd be a pretty close match despite leomon towering and being a lot more intelligent

Also, god, but that part about Marvel and DC having more Battles then the Smash roster would have felt WEIRD AS HELL bac in Season 3. See, DB used to do a lot of video game battles. I mea, no shit. When they started, they were one show on Screwattack, a primarily gaming focused site. It helps that they clearly ripped a lot of their early branding from Mortal Kombat. They had a fuckton of Street Fighter reps early on, for instance. But, well, cold business calculation, if you look at their most viewed episodes, it tends to be stuff featuring either comic book characters or shonen manga characters, so...Yeah. Follow the money.

For Shulk’s opponent, I was thinking of a battle royale between all of the protagonists across the Xeno series.

Zero should happen some day on Death Battle because Meta Knight Death Battle matchup tier lists say otherwise, but disagree that Zero would win because the fact he was built to be surpass, destroy, and be better than Mega Man isn't everything.
