Death Battle Newbie Reacts To Bill Cipher vs. Discord

My good pal Sonya has never seen Death Battle before, while I am a big fan of it. So I decided, why not introduce her to it while also making content of it?

I mentioned it during the stream but this may have become my favorite Death Battle episode as someone who hasn't watched the show in a long while. And for two powerful chaotic entities, I like how the fight ended. And, as Kobuddy highlighted - Discord may have lost the battle but he won the war. He sacrificed himself to save his friends, which is very much in spirit of My Little Pony in general (which Sonya also points out). So it was a very solid ending for a very solid episode with a lot of love and care put into it.

A lot of people don't get the other part of Discord sacrificing himself, which is that he believes in his friends to bring him back. Considering he'd be reformed with enough "chaos" and he's best friends with Starlight, someone who can make time paradoxes casually whenever she wants, as well as the Princess of Magic, I think it's fair to say Discord will probably only stay "dead" for like, a week tops. Hell, the letter he wrote might have instructions on accesing his second body in his little Chaos Cottage. Bill meanwhile, has nothing and no-one to turn to. He can only trick others, and considering it took him over a trillion years to get out of the Nightmare Realm the first time... yeah he's stuck in there for a while.

Actually, if you paid attention to the video, You can see that Discord can come back, because Bill can't get rid of the concept of Chaos itself, which means Discord will reform again but it takes quite a bit of time so he can't resume the fight, plus, Discord in the comics has a another body at his house that he can use to get back instantly. But It makes sense why Discord had to die here because it would be a never ending battle because Discord would just come back but the timing of his resurrection takes a while so he can't resume the fight

Guys.. if yall didn't understand that discord comes back by his OWN chaos That's why in the episode where he was disappearing as a ghost, he was panicking and trying to be the most chaotic as he could If it was Chaos in general, he wouldn't have a reason to even care. Bill killed him before he had the time to do ANYTHING So there's no proof he would come back (EVEN IF I WANT TO ):)

@@lea9759 Actually no, Discord can come back even if he doesn’t do anything chaotic, for example, when he started to disappear, FLUTTERSHY helped restore his ability to exist, as it says "as long as chaos exist, Discord will exist"

Interestingly, this being the 180th episode connects it with the fact that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle (which is the shape of Bill's body) is 180 degrees. Bill may have won the battle, but it seems that Discord achieved his goal as well. Unfortunately or fortunately, neither are gone for good. Bill will eventually escape from the Nightmare realm, and as a personification of Chaos, it's likely Discord will eventually reform as long as chaos exists.

You are mostly right, sense both consequences for each character WILL be undone it is objectively a tie. Neither one really won because what they did to their opponent is temporary and fleeting. As you said, Bill will escape and as death battle points out Discord will eventually reform some day. Was a good battle none the less but overall it was a fight with no victors outsider of who killed who first.

@@jacob-nj4gmBill won in terms of Death Battle's rules. If it takes too long to continue the fight immediately, being able to continue the fight doesn't count.

@@Ghostguy693 Oh, honestly I know and agree with this. But people are wanting to play at being intellectuals and at the risk of sounding like a pompous dick both sides are very bad at it. Both sides wanted their guy to win so bad so they scrounge for any meager excuse to justify why "in actuality" their preferred character won. I can understand the appeal of trying to look beyond just who killed who but if you people are going to do that then pleas stop being lazy and painfully biased or idiotic and actually take every thought and conclusion to it's natural end, not to the point where it benefits your guy then ignore the rest. Again, at best it's lazy and intentionally half backed and at worst just fucking braindead logic. In death battle standards Bill won. intellectually speaking that shit was a tie because push came to shove neither side really did shit. No one permanently died and no one actually lost anything but a speck of their time of which they have plenty. You specifically are currently innocent of this so this rant doesn't really apply to you. To those who it does, stop it. Do better or stop it.

20:14 "oh Bill...." I love discord had the last laugh. The respect the animators and writers paid to him they are/were Bronies. Discord lost the battle but won the war. They wrote it were he saves Ponyville and is still a winner technically. You even see him accept his fate in the intro 17:10 The way he holds Fluttershy's cloth, and contemplates for a second. his eyes brows coming down when he reaches his final decision before attacking Bill. They paid a LOT of respect to him.

Power scaling is technically objective (if the feats and power level of the character is consistent. Or different versions or forms are used specifically with their own feats and power level) but yeah, the results of said death battle (bill cipher vs discord) are correct. Objectively speaking

I will say this, even though I do have my gripes, and feel they got a few things wrong about both Bill and Discord, and kind of underplayed Discord a tiny bit. I still loved this episode and deem it as one the best episodes that has released in recent years, this episode felt more like a genuine crossover between the two shows than a usual death battle, and the voice impressions are some of the best i have ever heard, there were literally times I was questioning if they actually got Alex Hirsh and John Delance to reprise their roles, with how on point they are. So yeah I'm a tad bit sad seeing Discord loose the battle, but even with that said, the end felt more like how Discord would have actually ended it, heck I could have seen mlp do something similar if they had a crossover event. I really dislike hearing some people hating on an animator like this, this is the fastest way to ensure the never touch these characters again and it's a shame that there are those out there trying to ruin it for others

Only Lauren Faust left mlp after season 2, the rest of the original writing crew left after season 5. Seasons 6-9 were written by newer writers but weren’t too bad honestly.

15:40 The show’s creator Lauren Faust left at the end of Season 3. The actual writers for episodes stayed. You must’ve stopped at around that point, but besides a few elitists that hated “their waifu” becoming a princess, the majority of the fandom stayed for the later seasons. In fact, almost all bronies say that Season 4 is the best season or their favorite. There was another small dropoff of fans at the beginning of Season 5 because a bunch of people hated the season premiere for some reason. But besides those two instances, mist say the show has been consistently excellent in the years after her departure. (Which all that really changed was the show became less slice of life and more of a serialized expansive story.)

As someone who didn't agree with the outcome I do find it disgusting with how people treated speedy these months leading up to it Which sucks cause this no lie is my all time 2nd favorite episode of the entire series and this is a example of a episode I would show anyone who has the slightest interest in DB. As someone who was nervous coming into this episode, after the discord preview dropped I fully changed and was so happy I did

@22:17 personally im happy with the ending. if you pay attention you can see discord setting things up so his friends are set free from the note on the ground for fluttershy, to the fact that after the finger snap the colors are muted the x in the sky is no longer red and the world is right side up rather then upside down. im not arguing that bill won nobody is and the people that are, are just as stupid as the people who are saying this was a complete victory for bill. it was a case of "bill won the battle but discord won the war" did bill win yes 100% but he was blind from the start to what discord was doing. discord used his tunnel vison against him and saved his friends, and i love this ending. as for the people blaming some "rando editor" stop that, get some help. seriously stop taking things meant for fun like its life or death. who cares who won? this is the same problem i have with people who don't like matpats theory's because "they don't fit their headcanon" its just a theory he's always said that, its meant for fun and enjoyment. if you are toxic then leave you aren't wanted in any community.

its a really fucking good ending, i love this and it made me love death battle again. i lost my love after "twilight vs raven" when they didn't take twilight as accurately she should have been taken, [she was an alicorn at that point but they made her as if she was a unicorn] but this episode won me back. if you want to know why i left it wasn't the outcome. it was that i felt they didn't care about us bronies that our show was just a joke to them. so i left with hurt feelings. but im happy this episode shows they are taking our show seriously. i really hope people don't ruin this for us.

So what is the point for the people who simply watch Death Battle with no clue on either side? Isn't Death Battle simply seeing who can kill the other opponent? Literally there is rarely a debate on who wins as its the point of the show- Bill won but everyone wants to make this episode special by saying there was "some war" that Discord won. If losing your soul in the 2nd Dimension, leaving your friends confused and hurt, while having No Chance to come back while all Bill has to do is make 1 Deal with Infinite, Sentient beings, the only war that exists is the one that Bill remains standing while Discord lost that chance. I'm just confused and conflicted as this point you're making is pretty hostile for your average DB Fan who isn't going to watch 10,000 shows and know all the most obscure combatants like Guts, or Bayonetta, or X-Men's Beast.

I don’t think the show has ever hated in itself; really there’s just the occasional joke calling out how the characters will spontaneously burst into song. Could you say which episode you/they are talking about? Admittedly I've never watched the MLP episodes besides this one (IE, Starscream vs. Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie vs. Deadpool, and Raven vs. Twilight Sparkle) but my understanding from fans of MLP was that those episodes were filled with "Ponies = dumb" jokes.

@@Kobuddy To answer what you actually said: as a brony who’s watched all of them, there aren’t really any cynical jokes or anything like that. It mostly just extends to “I can’t believe we’re doing this…” or “Wow, these ponies are actually pretty awesome/powerful!” And those jokes actually lesson on later episodes since it was RD vs. Starscream that was initially a joke fight, until they actually realized that RD would realistically win. I’ve never watched any other Death Battle vids besides the MLP ones and the Majin Buu vs. Kirby (since I’m a big Kirby fan), so I’m not really sure about their attitude of the show outside the episodes about the characters, but I think they’ve learned to respect it. I was surprised you mentioned a “toxic Death Battle fanbase” on the disclaimer and in the video discussion, as the 5 episodes I’ve watched have almost completely been agreed to be a fair assessment (besides some mad at PP vs. Deadpool being a draw on a show called “Death” battle). But maybe it’s a good thing that I just stick on the friendship side of things in regards to Death Battle… 😅

Yeah, in my own opinion: don't listen entirely to what the dude here says, sure it is pointless to engage in a heated debate over fictional characters, but in doing so you also learn things about the characters and their universes/series. As long as the debate doesn't scale to ridiculous, toxic behaviors, it is fun to debate and powerscale fiction, it is ok to get salty at deathbattle, as long as you respect the crew and persons behind it, and each fandom represent of those series, and lastly, I do like to listen to those videos debunks of one deathbattle, it is interesting to see and learn about topics that didn't make it in the episode. So yeah, take whatever thing the dude says in the video with a pinch of salt; good and honest advices, but that does not cover the entire thing.

honestly, these possibilities are crazy, i'd feel like it would be kinda even, like Discord would win most of them, but this time was different, bill as taken over their realm, he has put their friends as banners, and all that. so that was good enough to get discord motivated to fight. and after all, can't really fully erased Discord since he's a concept. and he also wanted to save ponyville (mostly fluttershy ofc) so he just basically joked around with bill putting him back in his home dimension. Discord truly had the last laugh

I definitely disagree with the result, they got some things wrong, like the unicorn barrier not nullifying Bill’s magic doesn’t mean The Bell couldn’t absorb his magic. Nulling power and stealing power are two different things. Also saying Discord would be too carefree when he’s been serious against other beings as powerful as him before like Cosmos. Plus the reason Bill killed Time Baby so fast is because he has a personal grudge with him, not because he was a threat to him or anything. But yeah shouldn’t attack the researchers over the episode, especially ones that weren’t even working on the episode.
