As more of a hobbyist, this video is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I wanted to see the unpainted minis in full detail, I wanted size comparisons, etc. Great stuff.
13:53 If you're running Battle-forged DG, that autocannon will hit on a 3+ after you move the model because of the *Inexorable* *Advance* special rule.
Try magnetizing them, just cut the plastic of the armpits and green stuf with a magnet. You´ll get more options of equipment with a second box and you can change the arms of the model to pretend they are different :P Just finished magnetizing the plage marine box with all the options, and they look amazing (a lot of work just magnetizing though)
Sup3r, amazing video! I'm starting a Death Guard army and it was a lot of help to see you review. Nice to know they were pretty much monopose. Thank you
Manta D3 Thanks mate, appreciate that. Was planning on getting Dearhshroud but in GWs wisdom they didn’t make enough. Will be releasing a painting tutorial at the weekend for death guard.
guys i would have to disagree i just assembled this set and the arms and head are easy to swap some fit right in but others might need a little green stuff. i was able to make some cool poses so experiment also don't be afraid to use some of the heavy weapon extras on you dark imperium marines it will give them a more competitive boost.also i don't recommend this set to someone who just started death guard i would just get typhus or a daemon prince or both and another dark vengeance sell the other lord of contagion and primaris or maybe get a start collecting nurggle to expand your death guard, start nurgle for both warhammer and warhammer 40K all at once! after you got 1000pts maybe get these guys are really strong but once they kill what they were teleported for and then they dont do anything except maybe a little shooting but thats it.that is my experience with the set hope it was helpful
It seems like with these superb sculpts and not really posable stuff GW is shifting to more of a collector kind of boxes? In a sense that if you are a collector it is ok for you to get a one of everything and then you are good to go to new product/army and just keep up with releases. I am not sure if that makes sense in term of making more money. On one side you have people buying one of everything and on the other people buying multiple boxes of only stuff they want.
David Szkipala totally agree, couldn’t have said it better myself. Personally I don’t think shifting fewer slightly more expensive mono-pose models is better financially than shifting 2 or more of the same box. Ah well hope it works out for them.
Almost all my friends are impressed by the model itself, but then realize most of these are monoposed. But most of them seem to not care that it is that way though, which is interesting On a separate point, if you managed to get the right psychic power from the CSM and DG codex, then they will be hitting on 2+, wounding on 2+, re-rolling 1s for wounds, 5+ for the extra AP, on 6 gives me mortal wounds. The basic terminator will have 3 attacks and if they have to face a Land Raider, then they can wound it on 4+ at least. For the combi-weapon problem, it's kinda why I'd mixed a bit of ForgeWorld weapons, like the combi-weapon set box would be good for these guys if you wish for most of them to have those options
The new death guard are very tempting to start up as an army, but there is the price of the terms in which my army would probably be mainly terms plus the monopose that would make them look repetitive
If you havent started, 2 sets of DG spurs fron Dark Imperium for 2 Lords 2 Plaguecasters Bloats and Blightbringers, 20 poxs (Cheap unit 120 for full size squad) and a few marines. Then add in Terminators, Etc. Remember Morty and The Great Unclean one are Lords and work decently to distract fire and plaguebursts are amazing
These monopose detailed sculpts I don't think they'll do as well as the more 'classic' sets and I'm glad that some of the Primaris releases are a bit more poseable but I don't understand the thinking behind them. It's always been a hobby about collecting 'your army' and making them your own with some cool conversions (like we see in the new IG codex) but the newer models from both AOS and 40k all seem to be a big slap in the face to people who really enjoy the modelling aspect of the hobby, maybe as a result of too much engagement with the more tournament orientated players who aren't as bothered with modelling? I mean they made a fantastic job of the plastic custodes, you can really make the models look individual and they're loaded with detail, so you'd have to wonder why they didn't stay on that kind of track.
I know I'm a year late but I agree i miss the modeling aspect of the hobby and I don't like cutting up my models to pose them differently. Though I see why games workshop has done the monopose thing it adds a ton of detail into the models themselves and also helps people new to the hobby not get to discouraged by putting the models together
You could probably easily mod the sockets/joints to fit any arm you wanted. I did that with some of the Dark Imperium primaris and the gravis captain. Converted the captain into a Chaos Sorcerer using the combi bolter and staff arms from the chaos terminator lord and the tzeentch aspiring champion helmet form the CSM box. And for the 3 primaris i modded, i used leftover plague marine and CSM bits to make some chosen
This is a really excellent review. I agree totally with the observation that at £35 a set, you should get sufficient combi weapons to equip the models uniformly. Otherwise, it's a lovely kit.
Heavy isn't a problem for the blightlords as DG ignore the penalty for moving and shooting. Imo the reaper or blight launcher is the best option. Pretty even imo.
There is the forge world legion combi weapon pack, containing 5 of each type (plasma, flamer, melta) for £15. It is wrong to have to buy another set just to be able to properly equip this box though.
Yes but it looks more like it's catered towards standard loyal space marines than corrupted Death Guard. Furthermore people baulk at £35 for 5 models let alone £52.
I'm going full combi-plasma and then deepstrike them in with a vanilla Nurgle terminator lord for reroll 1s to hit so I can shoot 12 overcharged plasma shots into something within 18". Just going with the combi-bolters and doing counts as. If I ever get into an environment that has such strict WYSIWYG that I can't let combibolters count as combiplasma's I'll get some separate plasma guns and stick them on the orky way. Also like the flail of corruption but since you can't get them reliably into CC from a deepstrike anyway I'm going to skip it.
I think the set is not worth 35pounds, with that small ammount of options and all of them being monopose. I think in GWs logic monopose is more valuable, while it is really not to the players (at least everyone that I know feel this way)
Love all the detail on them. Hate the rounded shoulder pads, why not have all Cataphractii pads? Weapon options in the box is stupid, won't be buying them I'll be getting a box of Deathshroud instead.
onkyo13 It clearly wasn’t. How can you prove this? They would explain this in the build guide and the box and their own videos. They do not. People always have the option to magnetise any kit, it’s no secret solution but it should not be an excuse to supply fewer parts in their kits. And if you think I’m going to start magnetising ALL of my future plastic minis you’re wrong.
doesnt it get difficult to paint when you glue them completely together like this?, even the base is on, painting my set of these i hardly glued anything before i started painting.
I think the majority of people would like posable options and more parts in these kits. Like the older kits had. The downgrades we are getting nowadays is less posability (cannot more arms/legs etc) and fewer options (spare parts). This is in exchange for higher cost, less models but more detail.
So not enough customization options, a lack of variety within multiple kits, very restricted weapon load-out options and that for a unit, not a character is just a big NO for me. I hope Games Workshop is not going to continue on this path. Good looking models is important, but not if it destroys the options you should have according to the game rules.
I cannot justify buying this, hell any of the new nurgle kits, the characters from dark imperium were nice, but I dont like the way geedubs is going with their monopose kits and cartoonish designs
