I loved that L beat Light before he died, not the other way around like in the anime. And for me, what was even better was hearing the English voice actors from the anime doing this scene! :)
This is suppose to be the real ending even for the manga, but Death Note was so popular Jump forced it to have a garbage season 2, which Light's death was total bullshit and made no sense at all (he already had an overwhelming advantage and you want me to believe he lost because he acted like a retard). The real ending is much better as L could only outwit Light by sacrificing himself.
I really wish this was the 26th episode. Wouldn't it be fantastic if 25'th episode ended and you're 100% sure L died, but then next episode comes in and BANG, all part of the plan
@@tananatana4011 I second you on that. Personally, I feel, this is the best ending and watching the next part of this video again adds to what I think.
@@tananatana4011 I actually watched these live action movies first, and didn't realize the anime was different. When I watched episode 25, I expected this to happen instead.
definitely have to admire the effort and the consistency shown here, Englishdubs for live action films always look wonky and I love that if they were going to do it, they at least did it right.
I feel as though this was the ending the author intended before they told him "Hey this is one of our most popular Shonen series right now, keep going" It would also explain the last 40% being so eh in comparison to L's cat and mouse game
Is there a time limit on how long you can set someone’s death for? Been awhile since I read the material Why didn’t L just make it so he died peacefully in his 70s hell he could’ve gave himself a year atleast
@@llawliet6112 Knowing what episode that was, I know why. I may sound bias, but I personally don't mind the ending. At least it's not the Netflix adaptation
If you enjoyed this ending, you might want to read the ending of the manga to see how it stacks up in comparison to this one. I'd argue that this ending is much more positive because the Yagami family doesn't suffer nearly as much as they do in the anime and manga. Still, I love the final scene of the manga for its allegorical meaning (remember that Light's name is written with the kanji for night, moon, and god). Go read the last volume of the manga to see how this ending draws inspiration from its source material.
@@Officialswordsmelon He didn't betray light in the beginning of the show Ryuk said that when Light time was up Ryuk would kill him. He also said he was on nobody's side he just said he was doing this for fun. He only wanted to be entertained
I love how they changed the ending. Still sad L died but i prefer this version. And the last scene with L and mr Yagami totally made my cry. I love how they for once show L as a lonely young man instead of just an awesome detective. And him mentioning mr yagami being a good father - pure gold.
@@veerdash1614 Maybe you think so, but for me I think it shows something the show and manga only really touched on - which was that, beneath all the antisocial tendencies, L did have a bit of a heart (feel like he wouldn't have funded an orphanage if he didn't). I also think it could be argued that the circumstances might be a big factor - between Watari's death and coming to terms with his own impending end (and the "L: Change the World" film that takes place in the same continuity as these films) , L might have figured it couldn't hurt to try looking at things a different way with the time he had left, up to and including assuaging some of Soichiro's guilt.
This is the best ending of death note, even better than manga and anime When I watched the movie I thought it was just a shortened version of the anime, but this ending blew my mind L won in a very heroic way, by sacrificing his life. In the anime he knew he was going to die that day, but didn't do anything which doesn't make sense
Actually he made preparations for after his death. Remember the video file light deleted in episode 25? (Or was it 26?) That same video was sent to Mello and near alongside a message declaring L's death. By not choosing a successor, he forced near and Mello to work together. Not only that but he manipulated light in such a way that light had to become the new L (which would immediately let Mello and near know that the new L is fake because of the message about L's death) His plan worked in the anime as well as in the movie. Only difference was the time it took
@@notjeff7833 I think you miss the point, people don't like mello&near because they're just copies of L. There was no reason to kill L off if the writer was just going to replace him with a clone.
The perfect ending. Light is dead. L dies after in his own movie but finds out what it’s like to be a father (He raises near). Everything is resolved. It’s perfect.
8:26 Hearing Light and Ryuk cackle together like that is both awesome and unnerving at the same time. Really shows just shows how similar they've become over the course of Kira's reign.
I love how L gets a moment to apologise to Watari (well not to his face but you know what I mean). We got a quick glimpse of that in the anime when L sounded genuinely concerned just before Watari shut everything down while he was dying, but here this emotionless robot that is L got more of that moment, to show actual regret. It's a nice touch and a change that I think actually worked.
I loved the anime. But i feel like an ending like this one shows more to light that just him being a criminal. He still had friends, a family who mourn him and he sincerely believed he was doing the right thing. While in the anime he seems just a psychotic criminal drunk with power who doesnt want to admit he lost.
Personally it cements it for me. Light murdered his girlfriend in the first film and tried to kill his dad in the second one. He doesn't care about his family, at least not enough to stop him from killing them when he believes it's nessecary.
"Power corrupts". This is what the reality is. And that's the point the anime was trying to prove. Though light does start off with a noble objective, it was the insane power that turned him into a psychopath who killed everyone that posed a threat to him. No matter what, the anime is my favorite.
For once I shall say. I believe this ending was a lot better than the original. Light finally missing the points buckling under small mistakes. The fact L needed to sacrifice his own life in the end was a wonderful way to end the story.
This ending proves that L is indeed genius, risking everything to win or his life on the case, brilliant forward thinking planned in advance also it’s quite intresting to see the parrels with the anime’s ending with Lights wounds and breakdown
L is hot.... sorry I had to... also, I love how the English dubbers are the same as the anime. And shit I cried... L!!! 😭😭 L smile broke my heart and how he had watari's picture besides him... this is just too much...
IKR? Especially when L said, “I don’t know what it’s like to have a parent. But I do know this: you were a great father.” to Soichiro tugged me especially after watching and reading L: Change the WorLd because he just came back from the TOTALLY NOT BB Murder Case 2 (seriously after two Wammy’s House children going crazy and killing people that place has to be shut down) and learned how to be a parent man....he truly experienced something he could cherish and yet he couldn’t fit very long and yet still cherished it as Soichiro reminded him of that time as he was a good father and he was the last guy L talked to after that case. So sad indeed 😭😭😭 L Lawiet Rest In Peace.
I don't get what everyone's problem is. The endings and outcome are basically the same in both the live movies and the manga/anime. All adaptions cut something from the original text. Besides, either way, both endings make sense. They're believable. And in both, Light learns the hard way that you must never underestimate L. IN both versions he still has that final trick up his sleeve - in one faking his death, in the other already choosing a true successor.
You know, this version really made it seem that Light cared that his father understood that he killed him for the sake of true justice, and not for a personal vendetta. Not that it makes the actions any better.
Light was just saying that though. If he truly cared for his dad he wouldn't have even thought about putting his name in the notebook in the first place. (Not if you love them) Other people sure, but his own father? His father never abused him, or was a bad dad. His mom loved her husband too. His sister loved her dad. What could Light say to his grieving mother when she crys everyday and drinks to sleep over the loss of her husband? "Mom, Im sure dad died because it was in the name of "justice" Meanwhile behind her back, up in his room, he puts earplugs in his ears to drown out the crying and thinks to himself "Dammit! I wish she would shut up." For a second or 2 he probably even considers putting his mom's name in the notebook just so she would stop crying and he could live in peace but then he doesn't because he realizes he needs someone to raise his little sister. ^That is who Light really is.
@@specialtwice4975 That's kind of the tragic, twisted thing about Light though IMHO; what you're saying, even if true, is probably not how Light sees it at all - I think that, in his mind, he's *not* "just saying that"; I think Light genuinely believes his father would or should understand him and genuinely wanted his approval even despite deciding he "had" to die "for the sake of justice", just like he genuinely deluded himself into thinking he's "the god of the new world".
Enraged Monkey this wAs actually the ending to the manga except instead of L confrontation with light revealing he’s kira in the manga it was near thats the difference between the manga and the films
I'm actually surprised L didn't write his own name in the death note in the manga and anime. He seemed to know when he was going to die, so it's surprising that he didn't use this trick in the manga and anime.
@@BlazingAuras From what I've read, what changed things in the film's ending is three spicific choices from L, Light and Rem; - (1) L decided to take a last-minute gamble - which is that, because he considered his death a big possibility, he risked going behind the team's back to reinstall security devices without telling anyone (after all, he expects he might die - if things go south, he won't be around to get in trouble either way). This is what let him catch Misa recovering the Death Note and using it to kill again, which he was able to work out as Light's instructions and that the 13-day rule was a bogus one Light put there himself - serving as the proof he finally needed to be sure Light was Kira and thereby be sure that trading his own life via writing his own name in the Death Note would bring Kira down then and there. He then goes to Chief Yagami and lets him in on everything with Misa's recorded actions being the justification to keep using the surveillance system - culminating in the team catching Light in the act. - (2) Light got either a tad careless or too trusting of Misa's capabilities by simply telling Misa to recover the notebook - in the anime he was more cautious, telling Misa to re-bury it after taking a few pages out to get around the memory-loss rule of ownership. However, he doesn't do so in the film and Misa, being a bit of a ditz, doesn't think to try it herself - thus she takes the whole-ass notebook with her and gets caught on the cameras L secretly went behind everyone's back to re-install, thus giving L the proof he needed to go to Chief Yagami and zero in on her and Light. - (3) Rem, deciding they were fucked either way and figuring Light was just going to monopolize Misa for his own ends no matter what, decides to spend their last moments flipping Light the bird by burning their own Death Note so that Light can't get it. This leaves Light with just the one Death Note to use, which leaves him no alternatives to fall back on after L swapped it with a fake.
L's victory in this movie was just amazing. He is such a wonderful character. As someone with Asperger's, I personally find him very relatable and an inspiration.
I kinda wish near was in here...but this is still a great ending! Way better than the anime ending. Wish L didnt die though; he was so adorable and awesome even in the movie
Yeah, Near appears in the spin off and as a voice in the midquel episodes of the next main title movie after this one. However Mello doesn’t appear in the movie at all, only mentioned in a conversation in both the movie and the novelization.
L writing his name in the Death Note was no reason as to why he won. Misa was already caught as Kira because the notebook was replaced. L needed to confirm she was the second Kira, so he wrote his name down earlier, because he needed Misa to see him, so she could write his name. (Misa might have been able to see L's lifespan, but Misa is an idiot lol). L wanted to cover this and make sure Misa would see him, and made sure Light wouldn't be able to kill him beforehand. He was that suspicious of Light towards the end, since they already knew the 13 day rule was fake. L also says he was unaware that Light would use the shinigami to kill him. Light was only caught because of his own confession. If Light had kept quiet, there would have been nothing linking him to being Kira. Misa would have been confirmed as the Second Kira after she wrote L's name down in the fake notebook. L wouldn't have died because the notebook was fake, but Rem would have killed L, if not for L writing his own name. (Don't worry poor Watari, I didn't forget you). Light would have got off scot free. But L being L, pressured Light into a stupid decision by making him believe that they didn't know about the 13 day rule sent the Task Force away, only to monitor him. *This decision by L to send the task force away so that it would be just him and Light, plus the decision of making him believe that Misa was the real target resulted in him slipping up. Misa was just a side target where she was confirmed as the Second Kira. But Light was confirmed only after his stupid rant. His own ego caused him to lose. L would have died immediately if he didn't write his name and he wasn't that paranoid, but Light would have still gotten caught by the Task Force. Maybe L wanted to make sure that Light wouldn't sway anybody, because he can be persuasive.* I like this ending, because L dies peacefully knowing he solved the case, knowing who is Kira and the Second Kira along with it.
Also, Rem only mentions Misa's lifespan has dropped as soon as L mentions his plan for Misa to write his name. Because she could also get off scot free saying that the criminals hadn't died and that she wasn't the Second Kira.
@@alelzarterl212Yeah, her stupid move, well, sorta, she's not written to be a genius at the very least Mello's level to remember L's name, among thousands of others, although I also don't think it would've been too hard that seeing Ryuzaki's strange attitude and especially knowing he lied about his name would make her especially want to remember his name just for the off vibes, but anyway any standard person could forget like she did .
This ending is so much more dramatic than the original because everyone had to watch light die, and seeing his dad and Misa traumatized over this dramatic turn of events is just heartbreaking
I'm not into anime at all.. never have been.. but never hated.. my cousin told me that if I were to watch anyone to watch death note. I then went and watched the movies.. and for someone not into it, I have to say this ending was so well done. I really enjoyed the movies and the series. Death note was definitely worth it.
I can't believe they got the actors from the anime for this. I honestly didn't believe it when I read it was them (I watched this movie with subtitles instead of the dub) but this was a pleasant surprise!
I swear, the way L says "This case is solved", it darn near feels like L transcended time and space to finally get that last laugh on Kira that he failed to get in the manga and the anime - either that or Alessandro Juliani (L's English VO) had *really* been waiting to say that to Light since he'd never get the chance to in the anime ^_^. On the flip-side, the way Light just breaks down screaming at them about criminals not deserving the gift of life? Aside from Brad Swaile just hamming it up as light as usual, I swear you can hear an extra edge of desperation and scorn towards L compared to when Near beat him in the anime or manga - because this time Light's being taken down in front of his father, whom he'd convinced himself would or should have understood what he was doing.
Let me explain my ending in the anime . I already knew I was going to die that's why I chose Mello and Near to be my successors , and I already told Light that we'll separate our ways . Since Light and I met , I already win . But unfortunately , I'm unable to find a concrete evidence against Light . So let's just say , I win
Agreed. Kira was like nothing this world had ever dealt with and it was woefully ill equipped. He was always going to take at least 2 waves to defeat; one to study him and learn how he operates (and unfortunately die in the process), and the other to use that information to finally bring him down. L weakened him by discovering his secrets. And there was no way he could have done that without keeping him as close as he did. Of course this also meant Kira saw all of L's moves too and was able to stay a step ahead of him, ultimately killing him, but that was the sacrifice L was willing to make if it came to that. L died so Kira could be defeated by his successors. 💙
Technically his shinigami told light by writing in the notebook he can no longer go to heaven nor hell. So while L hoes to heaven. Light will forever be trapped in limbo.
Jaspe Sedano he wrote his own name . So there would be no new owners of the deathnote. He burned them , wrote his own name so the rules wouldn’t allow it to happen . U steal the book or pages and u kill the last owner death u become the owner new book. Kill the owner , it falls to u . Find the book with no owner u get it . Ryuk writes the last owner name and reclaims the book to give out someone else , like he said to L “ur boring “ since he asked L to use the book . Basically suicide and burning it means no future deathnote
@James Lucas exactly, and by letting him win this way it gives us a conclusion to their game. no matter what Near would do to beat Light it wouldn't feel earned because it was about a mind battle between Light and L. fun fact, Near does exist in this continuity but L meets him only after Light dies.
I wish that they'd edit some stuff and reanimate/make a short manga chapter with this so we can pretend this is the real ending. This is perfect and absolutely canon to me.
Why would he want to save Light? He wanted to stop Kira. He wanted to end this. He wanted to die soon after. Ryuk killing Light just shown the karma for him.
One thing crossed my mind. Even if Ryuk listened to Light he still wouldn’t be able to kill L because L wrote his name first. How the hell did Light plan to beat/kill L? Considering he was shot and injured while L was fine and knows martial arts.
In this anime ryuk was the only one playing games with everybody for his entertainment and in the end when light was thinking himself as a god then ryuk just come in and shows light whose the real god Damn ryuk 😂
Shirochio yagami was the best dad I couldn’t have probably the closest to a parent Me film: has no dad Me irl: has no dad But I’m glad to at lest have a person i can call family
Would've been a more satisfying ending if Light had just lost his memory of the Death Note and being Kira but alas he was just beyond motivation to just not trying to accept his defeat and give up.
@@CosmicmoralesI don't exactly think so, at least not 100%, L canonically felt some sort of entertainment by having Light with him, basically as they were alike in some ways and how their intellects rivaled each other, and seeing by how this L demonstrated more feelings with the regret of not preventing Watari's demise and considering that Light's father was a good father, I think it's plausible that he might've thought that in other setting they could've been at least friendly with one another.
Because L used the death note he will not go to heaven or hell. Which is the problem with this ending compared to the anime, if there was a rule saying that if you write only your name and only your name you can go to heaven or hell. So L insures his damnation, unless there is a rule say only if you write your own name you could go to heaven or hell. So what do you think. Also don’t say all humans go to nothingness, if there is a realm of shinigami, than there have to be other realms maybe heaven and hell but what Ryuk means is that because he can’t go to heaven or hell he would either go to another realm or the shinigami realm(which is a theory)
Though in the anime and manga, it’s confirmed that Heaven and Hell don’t exist in the Death Note world. Their existence is made up by humans. Ryuk confirms this in the manga when Light made a deduction about when Ryuk says users of the Death Note can’t go to Heaven or Hell. It’s even in the rules, which the anime’s commercial shots brings up at one point. So your theory is correct to an extent.
Def a better ending than with Near and Mello showing Lights childish side and Ryuk losing faith that Light relies on him, but the alternate manga was pretty cool too with Light ending up in the Shinigami realm with Ryuk
L should've written in the real "Death Note" to die at age 100 or something! He had nothing to loose and could've had a full life until he was an old man! If the written death can't be changed, it would've worked!
But if didn't write his name than Rem would have killed him. L said himself that he locked in his own death. Rem wrote L name in the death note but his name was already in an other death note first.
@@The_AlgaeIf he had written that he would've died in 400 seconds of a heart attack because the limit time of death is 23 days, and since his name is still written he would've died by the classical heart attack after the rules time
I can only assume that light wasn't thinking straight due to stress from being found out as kira but he should've known asking for ryuk's help would've been a bad idea even if he was willing to help him. rem couldn't kill L so ryuk would be no different. and even if ryuk kills everyone in that room, L, who would be the only survivor, would just call for more. and I'm sure saving light from capture and execution would be extending his lifespan which would kill ryuk, that'd be a good reason not to go through with it.
@@lrush6983 The Death Note controls fate, so there would be no way for Light to kill L. Killing the rest of the task force would be having the last laugh, though.
