Watari was a great father figure to L and it still hurt seeing him die the way he did. Not to mention it was such a dick move by Light L I get but what happened to Watari was uncalled for.

I agree. Even though I wish L didn't die, I understand why Light saw a reason to do it. But yeah, I don't think Watari had to die too. It was so sad. Watari was a great character and you could tell how much he cared for L. Yes, he was a father figure to L, and I'm pretty sure that Watari viewed L as a son.

@@KitsunesTrove yeah, but wouldn't it have been worse for watari to survive and have to bury L? As you say, the man raised L for most of his life, L was like a son to watari, they do say that nothing is worst for a parent than surviving their child.

I know I am late, but I still want to add something to this conversation. LABB murder case is not by the original author. Many people don't consider it canon. It also has way too many plot holes. If you see original manga, there are children always laughing and playing around normally. Mello was naturally a bully and jealous person. No other kid was like him so Wammy house has nothing to do with that. Many children ask Near to come and play outside but he prefers his puzzles. Here you also can't blame Wammy house. It can't change kid's priorities. In one manga panel, children were clinging affectionately to a caretaker means staff was very friendly towards children. And it was not only to find L's successor, it was there to polish all kinds of talents. Linda was a famouse painter from the Wammy house. And even long before rise of L, Wammy uses his money to open orphanages all around the world. Only a good person can do these kinds of things. So personally, I really dislike this theory of abusive Wammy house.

And yet aside from Mello and Beyond Birthday, he`s actually one of the ruder Wammy`s Kids. Also like Light, he is a pathological liar,a bit of a utilitarian and has a very warped idea of justice.(It`s just slightly less warped than Light`s).Hell, in The Manga it is left ambiguous whether he cares about justice at all or just uses the word to manipulate the cops and federal agents on his task force much like Light uses it to manipulate Kira`s followers.

For instance, it`s canon that when he told Light "There`s a 5%likelihood that you`re Kira.",his actual estimate was closer to 95%.

It amuses me that L had Watari delete everything in the event of his death, rather than send it to L’s successors. _“Here at Wammy’s House, we do all our investigations from scratch. No hand-holding.”_

@@AllFiery Yeah, but L did say that he told Watari to delete everything if something happened to him. Some info must have been saved though, because Near was using L's research had learned in his own investigation.

Wrong. He did this and the files got transmitted to a different team. This screen only says all files deleted so light feels comfortable not investigating this second team. L knew he was going to do that day hence the rain scene with only light and L explaining he hears bells.

It was so sad when Watari died in the anime and the movie but it was good that he didn't die in the Drama!

I agree! I like that he survived in the drama. Even after L was gone, he was still able to assist Near and the Task Force. That's actually my favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note, too. Thanks for watching!

I really like Watari, too. He's such an awesome character. You can tell how much he cares about L and not to mention the fact that he's an incredible sniper as well. He also reminds me of Alfred. Watari and L together remind me of Alfred and Batman/Bruce Wayne. Thanks for watching!

I actually blame Light more than Rem. Yes, Rem is the one who killed Watari and L, but she did it because Light manipulated her into doing in order to save Misa's life. I understand where you're coming from though and I respect your opinion. Thanks for watching!

@@KitsunesTrove Rem was an idiot and simp for misa for literally no reason at all, his whole character existed to kill L from the beginning because L was too smart to be killed by any human. Personally, there is only one character I hate in death note and that is rem. I hate light too but it's different because light is a villain to be hated but he is still an amazing character.

@@kkp8538 That makes sense too. I still don't really care for Rem and I know that she's not completely blameless in the deaths of L and Watari. I just feel like she wouldn't have done it without Light manipulating her. Then again, she cared about Misa so much, she would have done whatever It takes to protect Misa. You're right though, we never get a clear reason why Rem cares about Misa the way she does. Especially since she's a Shinigami and they usually don't care about humans that much.

I kinda contrast the scene at 7:04 and the one at the death note Japanese movie because spoilers We see L telling Watari that he wrote his own name down for him to die peacefully in the maximum time limit so he could catch Light as Kira which Watari was saddened by this news. But in the end L caught Light, which I kinda like the ending more

Oh yeah, i like the ending of the Japanese movies way more. Nothing against near and mello, but i think everything should have ended between L and Light, and M&M and N could have been good as supporting characters and maybe for a sequel with their own villain or something. I also like more how those movies handled naomi's death, it made way more sense with how smart she was that she wouldn't trust light so easily and light would have to make a better plan to eliminate her.

I believe it was all of the data they had collected on the Kira case. If so, L still had these files stored somewhere, because we see Light looking over them in ep. 26. And Near had L's files to work off of too, I think. Thanks for watching!

@@prasanth2601 A was L`s first potential successor who committed suicide because he could not take the pressure of succeeding L and Beyond Birthday snapped and became a serial killer for the same reason,his resemblance to L further tainting the police and federal agents` memories of L/Ryuzaki to the point that many of them just gave up the Kira case out of a personal dislike for him.

@Kaylee`s Nerd Pretty much everybody in "Death Note",protagonist,antagonist and in between, is at least somewhat evil. That`s kinda the whole point and why Light/Kira`s "new world" was ultimately an unattainable dream as he could see the rot in everyone and everything around him but always had an excuse for the rot in himself right up to the bitter end!

Lol rewatching the series now and he was my favorite character lol chief Yagami is my second favorite, L is just as bad as Light.. both are disgusting individuals and only care about the game. At least Yagami cares about ethics and justice. This badass was loyal and a weapon.

Watari is definitely a great character. While not my favorite, I do really like him. It's awesome that you like Chief Yagami, too. He's a favorite of mine as well. Matsuda is my absolute first favorite character, Aizawa is second, then Near, then Soichiro Yagami. I couldn’t stand Light, lol. Thanks for watching!
