There is very little time left to save this desert oasis. We are working hard to find a way to preserve this area. Please share this video to help bring awareness to what is going on.
Yeah “the government” drained this river in the middle of nowhere because they want people to suffer lmao. Who are you even talking about when you talk about “the government” there are hundreds of thousands of people in state and federal government nationwide. Did they plan this together? This is what happens when you don’t get a proper education Wesley. You start believing crazy shit.
@@marlon363 With an attitude like that i could see why, you gave up before even starting. Sometimes its who you know with connections in the right places. All it takes is the word to be spread and the right people to see it.
Yup I leave in New York the top all about the environment and see nothing but farmland turned commercial. I have no use for the left or right just broken promises are broken promises. Feel bad for 5 year old son native species will be only be observed in zoos and federal parks
To say i was HONORED to have been there with you reeling in monsters is an understatement. There will never be anything like that muddy river. The sounds, the fish, the night sky and stars and more than that was the memories made there.Plenty of laughs, cheers and tears of joy.Thank you Kris Flores for inviting me a couple of times to be a part of that Historical Muddy River.🎣🏕️🪵🔥Morales Texas Fishing
Sorry to hear about your problem Chris. To me as a fisherman myself for over 70 years its hard to find a good fishing spot and the establishment doesnt care about the fishermen or the hunters of this country. Why cant they leave well enough alone. Hope that you and your friends find a solution.
We literally have tens of millions of acres of federally funded national forest and several state funded lakes and WMAs that you can hunt and fish on across this country. The government has public boat ramps, it does public hunts, draw hunts, it has a tackle loaner programs, it does fishing rodeos, and it has several more opportunities to get adults and children outside. Saying the government doesn’t care about the fisherman and hunters of this country isn’t true. Because without the government I would have never shot my first deer, or my first duck. I also wouldn’t have the opportunity to go in my backyard and catch fish anytime I want to because the lake wouldn’t be there. The government has done some fucked up things, but the programs and resources it has for fisherman and hunters is fucking great. The reason they’re draining this river is because people continue to move into the desert and they need drinking water. Not because they hate fisherman. It’s not that hard to understand.
I’m at a loss for words…hopefully you can get something done about it! You have made awesome content on that river and taught lots of people in the process!! Good luck
There's got to be a law Pertaining to ecological impact an the effects it has to the surrounding land, bird migration, economical affect on the community in the area, etc there's alot of angles that can be brought to attention like farms that rely on the water
Hey man, I've been watching you for YEARS now. It's been so long I graduated college and pushing 30. I've had something similar happen to me, my favorite creek got destroyed in efforts to help with flooding, now hardly any water flows but you can still find fish in deep pockets on the bends of the creek. I don't want to bring any negativity in this comment section but I do find it odd that a lot of water is being diverted to the Rio Grande at this moment...super glad the beavers are there to do their job and actually help you out as far as trying to keep the water. Like you said, the people behind desks shouldn't be making decisions about wildlife. Much love from Texas brother
So crazy. I remember when you first commented in my first videos on utahfishing. I dont have that channel unfortunately. I went to my old spot and its changed drastically too. Your a good man.
This is so sad to see. Being from Arizona I can relate to this.. Seeing this video literally is heartbreaking because I know how that feels to lose water but this is just on another level. I’ve been watching your videos since before 2015 and it’s sad to see such a great stretch of river with great fish be devastated like this.
Nooooo!!! Sorry to hear! Hoping for a miracle! Been watching you for years. Plus aren’t the flatties kinda dormant this time of year? What a waste of natural resource!😢
I've enjoyed watching your videos. It's terrible to lose a resource that produces those nice flatheads. I hope things work out so that you can save it. Prayers are with you.
I haven't watched in probably a year or so (I really got into hunting last year and didn't think of fishing much like normal lol) so this was terrible news to come back to. I know how it feels to have such a special place ripped from your arms like this, not to mention by someone who has probably never even spent a moment in the area. I wish you luck in finding an endangered species my friend. I know you said it's a done deal, but if you do find a way to stop this, I will happily do what I can to help.
The best thing we all can do is contact the New Mexico Game & Fish or other New Mexico departments about this water re-route. Maybe they will do something about it if enough people do so. I just emailed them.
Unbelievable what state and local governments can do to destroy such a beautiful habitat. I have been watching your videos for many years and it saddens me to see what they have done to a beautiful place.People must unite and fight against tyrants that don’t care about preserving habitats like the muddy river.😢
This a devastating travesty . I have watched for years and enjoyed watching you and you're guest catch some great flatheads. Really find this news horrific .SO SORRY . I was looking forward to seeing you at CAT CON this friday . Maybe everyone could sign a petition there
This sucks man, loved that stretch of river, i hope we can find a way to save that, next time yall go outhere for help, let me know, im willing to help preserve that awesome place
Seeing this makes me sad ur the reason a lot of us started I know this isn’t the end of ur channel but I know it’s a big part of it if I can help in any way let me know maybe we can relocate some of them
They also re routed 3 miles of the Rio Grande back into the original river channel inside the Bosque del Apache refuge along with the San Marcial project just to facilitate water to Texas.. and for the RG silvery minnow all the fish and wildlife in that stretch didn't matter to them. 😡🤬
Well that's just completely made up and untrue. I drive over that stretch of river every day. In no way has it been diverted. Part of the water from the low flow conveyance channel is diverted into the BdA, but the river is not.
@@Elephant_Butte_Lake Conceptual Restoration Plan Active Floodplain of the Rio Grande San Acacia to San Marcial, New Mexico. You tube won't allow links pasted to comments so here is all the information of the whole project that began in 2016. type in this exactly on Google and educate yourself before you call someone a liar. a 3 mile stretch of the rio grande has been moved back to it's original river channel inside the BDA boundries and the LFC now enters the Rio Grande at San Marcial instead of 16 miles down river at Silver Canyon , They did build 4 gated culverts that allow water to flow into the "MUDDY RIVER" but the big lagoon has been completely blocked off and drying up quickly. I fish and hunt there and watched the project take place till it was finished just 3 months ago. Kris will back me up on this 100%.
They did the same thing to the Arkansas River that comes out of Colorado and into Kansas. As a kid we used to do all day floating/fishing trips and the river would be deep and full of fish. Now it's nothing but a dirt bike trail. Its depressing having those childhood memories and knowing you can't pass those experiences on to the next generation.
I've seen the same thing happen to ponds that once held good bass panfish carp and maybe cats too now just empty fields for no reason at all I hope you can figure out something to save the river bro tight lines and good luck
What a shame! Hopefully something good comes out of all the decisions theme people make or if they decide to leave it alone it'll be even better 🙏 Keep up the good work!🙏🙏
I feel some of your pain. They are draining Lake Conway in Arkansas, but are going to fill it back up in 5 years. Fished it for years and was loaded with fish. Great catfish, crappie lake. (Don't fish much for Large mouth bass but they were also in the lake.) They also said the fish will head down stream into the Arkansas River. It is almost empty and the deep spots are still holding fish
i have recently figured out that most surfaces become lacking of water because someone or everyone retrieving water from underground, this will cause surface water diving down to fill the empty area. this conclusion is heavily depending on that no significantly changes on yearly water drop and season changes, which may cause direct changes on surface water.
Kris, Try contacting Leo Shang via EPF if you haven't already, I wonder if he'd make a worthwhile trip to Southern NM to help. He's a great conservationist and knows about micro species, it could be a way of potentially stopping this.
Your not alone. GBRA has done the same thing here. Shut down more than 5 dams along the Guadalupe River. We've lost all our lakes and access points. Local co-op even offered to rebuild the dam and they won't let them. It's a shame. No recreation for our children in this area now.
I'm on the lake there in Canyon Lake too. Huge poputlation growth....every one flushing toilets and watering lawns....cupled with the thrird year of drought.... we are screwed
Reach out to the guy that interviewed you for this latest Infishermen magazine. I was just going to comment I read about you in it. Then I watch this. You’re very humble but you have a big voice Kris. What can we do to help?
How is it possible to "shut off" a river? I am thinking that this must actually be an irrigation ditch. I looked on Google Maps and found "Muddy River Road", which is near a man-made irrigation ditch called the "Garfield Drain". Is that it? If the farmers served by the irrigation ditch don't have the clout to keep the water running, it's hard to imagine that anyone else could. Sorry to see your fishing spot come to an end like that.
I really hope that someone can stop this madness this makes me sick the way the NM government is as I lived in Eastern and Western NM most of my life and have been a fan of muddy river catfishing for a long time praying for the big river in NM
I'd love to try to do something to help, but it's a non-starter without a location. I'm not sure what you expect people to do to help if they don't know where it is.
Sorry Kris....really sad to see these kinds of things going down. Especially for wildlife. I guess the only positive out of all of this is you can find all the snagged hooks and weights scattered about.
im not sure if its possible but maybe try finding an insect or something else endangered other than fish that depend on the river, its more to look for than just minnows so more chances? im no wildlife specialist so im not sure but maybe
I'm sorry man. That was a killer catfish spot for your area. If they continue in this manner, my advice is go to the holes and harvest what you can, instead of leaving it for the buzzards.
Texas won a lawsuit 20 years ago saying the water belongs to them. Same thing for Colorado, Kansas won a lawsuit over 30 years ago and Nebraska the same...
Leave it to government bureaucrats to fuk up a good thing! Best flathead fishing spot I’ve ever seen. Been a subscriber of Muddy River Fishing since the beginning. This is heartbreaking to see.
Its a problem everywhere, I've been trying to push into goverment politics to have my state change to drip irrigation for a few years now. Our dams barely cover agricultural production and fishing has been on the decline for years. Best of lucks
Here are a few indangerd if yiu can find. Longnose gar, shovelnose sturgeon, speckeled chub, beautifil shiner, texas shinner and like i said alegator snapping turtles are highly protected. Good luck
What a bunch of crap our government has become. The fore fathers are rolling in their graves at what we've become. RIP muddy river and another chunk of our freedom... Keep fishing, providing, and filming brother
Absolutely sickening, man I have never been there but I am affectionate toward that river simply because I have watched you and your family enjoy the best of God creation and then humans destroy it.
Was this an actual river, or a diversion of water from the Rio Grande that they’re now stopping? I’ve read about some of these diversions off the Rio Grande River that are being shut down because the RGR is running dry.
