Agreed; the cadence and rhythm is, ah, interesting, to say the least. It could work in context, but in a folk-y dance it just sounds out of place. Same issue with the most popular version of the Einheitsfrontlied in English, though that one was mostly just the fault of poor singers.

Where in the song does it explicitly state Japanese? It defeats the point, as they were 100% NOT Canadians at the time and so the railway is very much not built by them. Indigenous is the correct term, by the way. If you completely missed my question... which you did, it is regarding what is underlying the umbrella term "Canadian people." How can Canadians sell out land that never belonged to them? It should really say Indigenous peoples.
