This song was sampled by Mase & his group Harlem World for their 1999 debut single “I Like It.” DeBarge is indeed siblings. They got started through their older brothers Bobby & Tommy who were members of the 70’s group “Switch.”

This is the best known song from DeBarge one of my favorite groups growing up. Their upbringing in Detroit was crazy you gotta check out their Unsung episode. James DeBarge was married to Janet Jackson and their brother Bobby DeBarge was the lead singer of Switch (I Call Your Name, You'll Never Be) and other brother Tommy DeBarge was a member of Switch too. El Debarge is one of the best falsetto singers in the R&B music game.

They were family. Brothers & sisters. They also had 2 brothers, Tommy & Bobby DeBarge that were in a group called “Switch.” Good music definitely! Their brother, Bobby died from HIV, back in the 90s or late 80s. & recently Tommy DeBarge died about a year ago. Loving it that you’re finding the DeBarge Family. They made good music! Love ya!!!

They were marketed to be the next Big Family Group after The Jackson Five but as the saying goes, The Best Laid Plans Of Mice & Men go astray. They were the Golden Children of Right On, The first African American Teen Magazine along with The Original New Edition in the 1980's. Their Brothers Tommy & Bobby were in Switch. They did this Song on American Bandstand in 1982 and then in 1983 they made their National Debut on Motown 25 but I knew they weren't going to make it. During the beginning, James messed up slightly on The Choreography and Motown was legendary for that. Their next big smash was "Rhythm Of The Night" written by Diane Warren who is probably the Biggest Female Songwriter of This Generation. She's written Hits for Aerosmith, Trisha Yearwood, Leanne Rhimes, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton and All 4 One amongst others. Sadly by 1985 they were all but finished. They had problems with keeping a proper Schedule, and Drugs. El was so desperate for Change he gave up his Catalogue which means when it's played on R & B Radio he doesn't get "Paid" which is sad considered that many folks have "Sampled" his Songs. Sadly enough him, James, Chico, and Bobby who was Bisexual and Died of aids all did time in Prison. James was married to Janet Jackson for a hot minute and Bunny was a prescription Drug Addict. If you can read about them in Vibe Magazine. Ironically Eldra aka "El" is an ordained Minister of The Pentecostal Church.

They added James to the All this Love Album...but, he wasn't on their first album "The Debarges" with them on the cover holding telephones. It was only four of them then.
