I love that you spark such conversations. I have some thoughts on the influencer culture topic from the pov of a consumer; I think having a diverse audience respond to that would paint a clearer picture. By diverse I mean age, culture, educational background, social class etc. The teens right now have an extremely different experience on social media that the 25 and above group. So it’s easier for the latter group to talk about “online consumption within reason” and “curating the content I consume” because they know a world without social media, so unplugging isn’t a new experience. And the truth is, the algorithms and the brands endorsements will push the plush life content over say, educational content. And the said content lacks context; hence the comparison, undue pressure and FOMO. Less people want to pursue the traditional careers because of the fallacy that content creation makes quick and easy money. Parting shot; influencers should clearly let their audience know that their content is their tool of trade; they’re paid to travel, eat, wear, party etc. It will clear up a lot, and could potentially reduce the comparison. Love and light.
