Its sad that this discussion happened so early on. The spirtual experience of feeling god, another being, and out of body experiences is created by the right temporal lobe which helps deal with the anxiety of death. That combined with the pineal gland which releases DMT will make you think a god is there. Its all evolutionary and because of this evolutionary developement we have developed religion so we can relate to these senses and feelings. BAM. I still chant hare krishna tho I like stimulating my lobes.

It would be great fun if someone ever arranged Sivarama Swami to debate against Richard Dawkins
@adityatyagi4009
@adityatyagi4009 9 лет назад
This would indeed be an interesting debate. Most of what Dawkins debates doesn't incorporate concepts of karma/reincarnation which can be used to answer many questions pertaining to suffering, justice, meaning/purpose of life, etc. If Dawkins is not prepared to "prove" where karma/reincarnation fails as a spiritual "law", then he will get decimated in such a debate.

krishna blake Hi Krishna, hmmmm interesting, I'd never heard of this man. Is your suggestion for reasons like because Mr Singer is a philosopher and a vegetarian, he'd be much more of a challenge to Sivarama Swami than Richard Dawkins (who is a bit of a sensationalist)?
@krishnablake4561
@krishnablake4561 9 лет назад
well Peter singer is a philosopher and Dawkins is a biologist so I think this would be better for the debate. Singer does not try to fully disprove the possibility of some type of god but rather religions specific idea of god. To have a meaningful debate about god there needs to be clear parameters of what each side views god to be. I think that was missing from this debate. I think a philosopher would be better at arguing in the areas of god being an energy etc. The atheist in this debate was very poorly prepared.

The monk is very calm & eloquent, and is certainly a very good example of the benefits that may come about from following a practical & systematic process of self-realization to understand the truth. The problem with many aetheistic intellectuals is that they don't acknowledge the inherent limitations of their own mind and ego, and are attempting to 'taste the honey by licking the jar'. The reality is that a self-realization process needs to be accepted with some humility in order to gradually gain spiritual understanding through insight. Mr Law became qualified through training in specific scientific/academic disciplines.In the same way, a spiritual aspirant becomes qualified to gain a small glimpse of higher reality through training in the science or consciousness.

great question at around 40 minutes. the issue of God's qualities is a completely different topic, warranting a much more lengthy discussion. The views expressed in this short discussion represent a mere atom of the sea of Sanatana Dharma. All sincere seekers will eventually receive what they wish for and according to their beliefs. If one doesn't have the desire to understand God, in what circumstance would the realisation dawn upon one? Therefore not only is open mindedness and discrimination necessary, but also sincerity in ones pursuit. Only through sincere seeking can we find Him. God bless

Well said... If only one took the initiative to practice and follow the instructions given in the vedic literature. He would have found lord and it is non other than the supreme personality of god head sri krishna. It is jist our ignorance and arrogant behaviour which nakes us debate that god does not exist.. Its our ego and rhis even shows how much we envy god... This is all part of our limited knowledge and senses... Anyways we are all conditioned soul... We are stuck in this body according to our karma and our freewill we will get our reactions... No point debating when u r not even 100 percent sure if god exist or not... Cuz the devotees are 100 percent sure of god existance and are willing to give u the knowledge to also know who is god.. Bt instead one simply does not follow the instructions and use his Imperfect senses to judge if god exist...

The only thing I got out of Stephen Law is that he has been suffering from Hemorrhoids for a very long time, and his prayers haven't saved him. His arguments are all centered around refuting a Christian theological framework using loaded words like "good God" "evil God" etc. He isn't listening to or reacting to the nuanced arguments presented by his opponent.

The point about good and bad is a question of duality. Duality is the dynamic of the universe as Newton stated to every force there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is the basis attraction and repulsion as demonstrated in magnetism which is the function of atom. Every in the universe has a duality and is thus its basic function. From our human perspective we measure on the bases of good and bad qualities. Because we use this paradigm to perceive our reality it doesnt mean its the only one

Good and evil is relative to the finite being. The infinite is pure virtue, beyond good and evil. There is a Taoist scripture that says that we should prize suffering as we prize our own bodies because if we had no suffering we would have no body. I myself like to think that there are various pockets of infinity and ours is the material and therefore suffering pocket which has been imbued with life. The glass is half full.

The Law myoho-renge-kyo represents the identity of what some scientists refer to as the ‘unified field of all consciousnesses’. In other words, it’s a sound vibration that is the essence of all of existence and non-existence, the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the true creator of everything that is, ever was and ever will be, right down to the minutest particles of dust, each being an individual ripple or wave. The big difference between chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middle man’ to connect us to our state of enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves by tapping directly into it by way of self-produced sound vibration. On the subject of ‘Who or What Is God?’, when we compare the concept of ‘God’, as a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to Nichiren’s teachings, the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people call ‘God’ is our enlightenment, which exists nowhere else but within us. When the disciples asked Jesus where the Kingdom of God is, didn’t he tell them that it was within them? Some say that ‘God’ is an entity that can never be seen. I think that the vast amount of information that is constantly being conveyed via electromagnetic waves gives us proof of how an invisible state of ‘God’ could actually exist. It’s widely known that certain data being relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects, including instant global awareness of something or mass emotional reaction. As well as many other things, it’s also common knowledge that these waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to even enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars. However, none of this is possible without a receiver to decode the information that is being transmitted. Without the receiver, the information would remain impotent. In a very similar way, it’s important for us to have our ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our life, all other life and what we and all else that exists truly is. Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach into the core of our enlightenment and switch it on. That’s because the sound vibration of ‘myoho-renge-kyo’ represents the combination of the three major laws that underlie all existence. ‘Myoho’ represents the Law of latency and manifestation (Nature), and consists of two alternating states. One state of ‘myo’ is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists. This includes our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them, our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re not being expressed, our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma, and more importantly, our enlightenment. The other state, ‘ho’, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes obvious to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory, whenever we experience or express our emotions, or whenever a good or bad effect manifests from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it simply means that it has come out of the state of ‘myo’ (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ‘ho’ (manifestation). It’s simply the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing something. The second law, ‘renge’, governs and controls the functions of ‘myoho’, ‘ren’ meaning cause and ‘ge’ meaning effect. The two laws of ‘myoho’ and ‘renge’, both functions together simultaneously, as well as underlies all spiritual and physical existence. The final and third part of the tri-combination, ‘kyo’, is what allows the law ‘myoho’ to be able to integrate with the law ‘renge’. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects together all Life and matter, as well as the past, present and future. It is often termed the Universal Law of Communication. Perhaps it could even be compared to the ‘string theory’ that some scientists now suspect exists. Just as our body cells, thoughts, feelings and all else are constantly fluctuating within us, everything in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux, in accordance with these three laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of ‘myo’ and ‘ho’ in a single moment than it would ever be possible for us to calculate or describe. And it doesn't matter how big or small, important or trivial that anything may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now, or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of 'myoho-renge-kyo'. These three laws are also the basis of the four fundamental forces and if they didn't function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. Simply put, all forms of existence, including the seasons, day and night, birth, death and so on, are all moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation, rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two universal states of ‘myo’ and ‘ho’ in absolute accordance with ‘renge’ and by way of ‘kyo’. Even stars are dying and being reborn in accordance with the workings of what the combination ‘myoho-renge-kyo’ represents. ‘Nam’, or 'Namu', on the other hand, is a password or a key; it allows us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘myoho-renge-kyo’. On a more personal basis, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives from moment to moment, as well in our environment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is turning, and rhythmically chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for a minimum of ten minutes daily, anyone can experience actual proof of its positive effects in their life. In so doing, we can pierce through even the thickest layers of our karma and activate our Buddha Nature (enlightened state). We’re then able to bring forth the wisdom needed to challenge, overcome and change our negative circumstances into positive ones. It brings forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that is preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we truly are, regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexual preference. We are also able to see and understand our circumstances and environment more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. Actual proof soon becomes apparent to anyone who chants the words Nam-myoho-renge-kyo on a regular daily basis. Everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect, so the strength of the result from chanting depends on dedication, sincerity and determination. To explain it more simply, the difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, or producing a song and so on.

God's existence cannot be argued against because there is no opposite to argue. God is singular. Only in dualistic reality can you have two. For example, good and bad are dualistic. God is the infinite singular that split good and bad apart so that it could experience them. The source of both is God and God is both.

Everything Law says assumed an Abrahamic model of God. Hinduism, and other Dharmic traditions, do not follow such a model, and have far broader notions of what God is than what Abrahamic religions teach. Thus, a lot of the arguments that Law uses to say that God doesn't exist don't apply when God is looked through a Dharmic lens.

Everybody mistook the one GOD of Hinduism. This material world is diverse. When you examine it closely you will find diverse material are three things PROTON, ELECTRON AND NEUTRON. That is Three Gunas our Rishis mentioned as Satwam,RAJAS AND THAMAS( neutron is dark particle). Then you deeply examine this particle you will come to know that really one thing .All matter is energy. Now there are two different thing Lifeless material and life force. When you closely observe again. You will find that there are different type of energy ,all are interchangeable. One energy we can convert to another form using a suitable device Light energy plant can convert to life force (consciousness) .So material world is consciousness itself. That is adwaitha of our RISHIS. Even if everything is same in finest form. When you are thirsty you need water, Bread will not solve your thirst. Same way God is one. Enormous number of spiritual body having different healing powers is a reality. God need not require any offering .In Hinduism Nothing is offering to BRAHMAN. But we have to offer flower and other thing to Devi and devatas(Architype)Because they are living BEING like as who depend on BRAHMAN. But they are super powers and can solve our material problem. THIS IS THE TEACHING OF SREE NARAYANA GURU OF KERALA and ALL RISHIS OF INDIA. Everything in this world we are seeing is Midhya(not real) in past and future. Now I am seeing an apple in front of me .Presently it is real. When you search this apple in 10 years back, this apple was not present at 10 year back. If you search this apple after 10 year you will not get this apple. So apple is only real in present time. When you consider this universe, it was not same in the past. In future also it is not going to be same. ONE THING THAT IS SAME IN THE FUTURE PRESENT AND PAST IS BRAHMAN (CONCIOUSNESS) ONLY. That is the essence of everything. SO BRAHMAN SATYAM JAGAT MIDHYA.(JAGAT IS NOT REAL ONY BRAHMAN REAL). Everything is real including cloud at present. For a wise world is sat because he is in the present. This is the teaching of Sree Narayana Guru I born in Kerala (south India) a predominant Christian Area. At least Weekly one time some Christians coming to my home and asking Why you are worshipping IDOL. Do you think it will save you. Now I know that calling GOD by name. sound is one form of energy. I am worshipping Idol that is Manifested form of energy. SO both I and they are worshing same thing ,but different form of energy. HINDU VEDA ADVICE IS THIS- If a truth is told by a child accept it. If an untruth is told by creator brahma reject it.This type of freedom I think no religion in the world is ever allowed

steven is hilarious he really does have a poor fund of knowledge about god. I would like any atheist to make a argument that could defeat swami.

Dr.Stephen Law's take on the issue is very poor debating. Being an atheist or even an agnostic, he could have floated the argument through a better stream.

Even prominent atheist advocate, Sam Harris, isn't completely dismissive of so called 'spirituality' in religion, Sam often speaks & has a high regard for the contemplative religious traditions saying that they have the potential for insights that we are yet to garner into consciousness. Such experimentation may well contribute to our next milestone in the evolution of consciousness together with human/animal well-being; perhaps the fulfillment of the Biblical prophecy of the Peaceable Kingdom

Think as if u r God and u can create living being creatures and other things. Would u be a different God? For example if u exposed that u r god and u exist then everyone will all pray all the time not relying on hard work for success. How will the world work exactly then? U will have to every time create stuff for them ac, refrigerator, tv electricity and stuff bring them to the modern age bcoz we r too busy praying. The world will function properly only when we remove the idea of god but still know he exists. Either in form of historical evidences or spiritual experiences or circumstances. Bcoz if we know for SURE that god doesnt exist then adharma or injustice will definitely take place bcoz ppl wont care anymore abt heaven or hell. Truth is science is a gift to us from god. Yet we say the more we progress scientifically the more we go away from god. The reason i am saying science is gods gift bcoz each and every element in the periodic table can be used for one stuff or another. Herbs are used ti cure people. Plants r used to produce medicines, wood, food and the most imp. oxygen. Consider trees now for example. If for example they didnt emit O2 the oxygen ckntent would deplete and we would end up dead. People say that we r going to die in few hundred years bcz of global warming or pollution etc. I totally disagree with it bcoz science will always come with something awesome which will save us. And the ideas which people get like falling of an apple gave the idea of gravity or water falling off the tub gave the archimedes principle. Or the structure of benzene which the scientist came to know by thinking a snake was trying to touch its tail. All these insane were actually given by god.

BADSYNE What experiment do you need to comprehend "you exist"..answer is you don't need one...in indian philosophy we called this kind of proof as "Aparakha Praman"... [there are three kind of "proman"(proves).. 1. Pratakhsya Pramana: ( Direct Proofs) like experiments of Newtonian Physics..like take a stop watch and measure acceleration...upon act of external force. 2.Paroksha Pramana: ( Indirect Proves) any experiment of Modern Physics..like experiments to explain how atom works or experiments of quantum mechanics 3.Aparaksha Pramana:(Neither Direct nor indirect) like your first person experience..your very existence...you don't require any proofs for yourself to understand you exist... (well of corse "what is existance"? that's the good question)..that is the example of "Aparakshya Pramana"... Now the pure consciousness is what causing your first person experience.(a theory called "Drik Drishya Viveka" discrimination between Seer and seen) would provide the logic on how thats true.. (Caution: If you are a student..and you have an exam don't read this books now..because this could affect your study)
