Almost missed every deadline, both personal and contest related! But I do my darndest to deliver, so here's my 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. I did a LS swap with a t56 6 speed transmission and managed to keep the car CARB compliant. Talk about a challenge all by itself! Now by recycling two cars that were pretty much left to rot, I have something that is a MPG monster and a track ripper. All for about $5000.

Awesome that you retained the shaker, as a shaker! I cringe when I see them bolted to the hood. Nice Job all around!

Awesome swap, man you guys in Cali sure do have to comply with a ton of regulations. Anyhow wish you the best on what you decide to do with her.

Anything pre 1975 is fair game, so those cars are ridiculously expensive. Post 75 is rough cause of CARB regulations.

I was surprised to see the gas filler was moved to the driver's side instead of the rear.

The trunk floor was cut out of the car that donated the engine and was welded into the 79 Firebird. That way the stock fuel tank and all the emissions stuff bolted in without modifications. Trunk space was reduced already, and instead of trying to make a side fill fuel tank a rear fill tank (with some crazy plumbing and shielding) I just cut and welded in a fuel door. I'd like to redo the fuel door in the future, but for now its fully functional. Emissions regulations are a bitch in CALI.

How did you incorporate all the evap stuff into the build, would you mind making a video on that?

Ended up selling the Pontiac to a buddy who has the time/money to do a full resto/custom. To answer your question however, I used the engine, transmission, wiring, and emissions parts from the donor 99 trans am. You have 3 lines from the fuel tank to the engine on the 99 firebird. Fuel, return, and EVAP purge. I ran those along the frame with braided AN hose. All of the emissions equipment is either attached to the LS1 engine or to the fuel tank. I left the engine stock, and for the fuel tank, I cut the trunk floor out of the 79 firebird as well as the trunk floor out of the 99 firebird. They are very different shapes, and you will lose some trunk space, but I trimmed the 99 trunk floor as best I could and welded it into place where I cut out the 79 trunk. So that way the stock 99 fuel tank, charcoal canister, and valves literally bolted in like stock. So cut out the steel that nobody sees anyway and weld in the steel that has the correct shape and holes you need to bolt stuff together.
