Debra soh is someone that needs to be heard and the fact so many dont want her and wont allow her to be heard is very worrying.

Debra approach to the conversation is so clean straight and humble, unapologetic but non offensive, clear and compassionate. She speaks w facts that tries to reach and in favor of protecting the vulnerable who wouldn’t know better about many challenges their sexuality might present. Bravo Dr. Debra!!

The British contribution to the Enlightenment's derived classic liberal politics cannot be overemphasized. Of course, free political speech and unfettered scientific inquiry are hallmarks of this gift to civil rights in Western democracies. The fact that there was an attempt by politically illiberal persons to prevent Dr. Soh from speaking at the Oxford Union must motivate all lovers of social freedom and individual liberty to engage in aggressive political action to defeat all censors of free speech, objective scientific study and social debate.

As a transgender man and the most vocal/prominent transgender advocate in Mississippi, I wish the larger population would understand that a small group of loud transgender advocates who disagree with Debra do NOT speak for the entire transgender community. I will argue that the majority of transgender people agree with every point she makes. This is a NECESSARY conversation and not having it is detrimental to us all.

This conversation needs to take place in broader manner. It’s already an issue in women sports. A trans woman, who was a biological male 2 years prior, was brutally beating up women in MMA. She didn’t disclose that she was a biological male, and asserted that it was a confidential medical condition. Also, a trans swimmer is breaking women’s records in college swimming. I’ve always been a liberal, but not if that means limiting free speech, denying biology, and defining myself by my skin color. These are not liberal ideals. We need to have the difficult conversations, and win our party back. These illiberal leftists are controlling the democratic parties dialogue, so they’re controlling the party. We need to risk being cancelled and have the courage to speak up. I hope we’ll find that most of our friends and family agree with us, but they were afraid to speak up too.

Dr Soh speaks so eloquently and reasonably (unemotionally) about this subject. She is obviously an expert on the subject and should be listened to by all quarters of society and political leaders.

What would be a doctors reaction if a 13 year old walked into the surgery and said “I identify as a one-legged, disabled athlete, please amputate my leg?” Would the doctor immediately affirm or as I suspect would they refer the child for an assessment before moving to surgery? If, in your heart you want to best outcome, surely you would defer irreversible surgical and medical procedures. There is no way that anyone will ever convince me of the opposite.

I very much admire and applaud her respect for data and science.

People who currently deny material reality will eventually learn, as has been the case historically, that believing material reality isn’t true has no effect on it being actually true. Kids would be better served by being informed we are all born with bodies of which our brains are one of many organs: and as a result none of us are born in the wrong body, or with the wrong personality traits, or the wrong sexual orientation. With this grounding in material reality then kids can be informed they can express their personalities however they want and don’t need to subject themselves to drugs that could harm them developmentally or via side effects, start a life long drug regime, or remove healthy parts of their bodies. The cure for bigotry that adults face because of how the want to present themselves should never be true responsibility of children to modify their bodies so that achieving a desired look is improved. And wanting to achieve a desired look doesn’t mean you are the material being that one is trying to represent.

I have had all the surgeries and I feel absolutely happy and fulfilling. I transitioned in 1999.

Her book, "The end of Gender" is incredible. It explains complex issues really clearly. It relies on empirical evidence, whilst being sensitive to people that are obviously very vulnerable and/or, are having psychological issues. Anyone that says it's Transphobic - could not have read it.

WPATH has managed to get gender identity disorder kicked out of the next edition of the DSM. If we can't even be honest about gender dysphoria being a disorder, what hope do we have? I've heard countless young desisters saying that once they decided they were trans, got on hormones and had surgery their dysphoria got **worse** not better. This is a monstrous crime that is being perpetrated on thousands of girls and boys.

Ironically, yes I guess it sort of IS a paternalistic argument from Debra but only a much needed response to what many of us may argue is too much of a maternalistic approach to society in the past 15 or so years. We need both. We need a bit of fantasy and a bit of reality, but both are worthless without the other. It's fine to play with gender expression and experiment with who we are but for most people, who are not actually trans, it doesn't serve us to get sucked into some of the faddish beliefs that gender is a total social construct. It just doesn't help people actually live their lives because a lot of times, the kinds of people who get sucked into this fad are young women who have all sorts of other issues that remain unaddressed because they have been told that "Oh...well you're just trans then!" when really she may have had a terribly abusive father or mother or hate her femininity for another reason. There are now quite many young women who are coming out as "de-trans" after having been lead down the rabbit hole to believe they were trans when really their issues were, surprisingly, more complex than that even! So, ironically, though "paternalistic" is usually a bit of a jab, yes, that's precisely what it is and what is needed. Coddling human beings does not make them stronger nor fix their problems. We need both sweetness and openness as well as truth and boundaries to lead successful, happy lives.

My mom was typically female, nurturing, sacrificing and sweet. I'm not, I'm more male typical, providing, like mechanics. I'm still female. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging traits and differences as long as people don't use them to imply inferiority

Debra Soh has written a brilliant book in the current climate that has regressed in part to the Copernicus days. Negative Activists are misinformed and totalitarian and that is sad. Open your minds and hearts and try to understand that science is your friend not your enemy. Just seek the truth as it expands into a greater knowledge of this area.

WOW....at the 54 minute + mark, Suh hits the nail directly on the head! There is more at work here than gender justice. The ideology is trying to accomplish much more than acceptance of different genders. Recall (Revolutionary) Marx's later life writings to Engel - "Criticize everything"...... you got to bring about the revolution.

The very idea that a girl who enjoys activities that somebody thinks are more typical of males, who is perceived as a "tomboy," and who may be attracted to other girls, and of course have crushes on her best friend, should be subjected to risky medical procedures for those "reasons" alone, is horrifying. Similarly for a boy.

Yet even at Oxford I’ve been to lectures where it is simply stated as fact that gender is a social construct...

Hers is one of the best books on this issue, its lack of bias, its adherence to facts, compassion, coherent argument syntheses, and a clearly written delivery make for a resounding success in countering many untruths and hysterical claims made by transgender identity ideology. Being a sex scientist/neuroscientist she has the perspective required for objective analysis. She's impressive in every interview of hers I've seen; too many to count now. The postmodern and intersectional genesis of this transgender narrative creates the same social construct phenomena that it so vehemently denounces; we are literally witnessing the indoctrination of normally confused children and adolescents. I believe we need to insist on allowing children to fully develop - physically, emotionally, and sexually - before hormonally and surgically/irreversibly altering their bodies. As adults they are free to determine further life choices such as full or partial transitioning. What is more important through childhood and adolescence is counselling, support, and compassion. Facts don't lie, most suicides occur post-transition, not before! The nefarious and narcissistic attitudes of the warriors is what needs to be countered, with reason; children being the pawns in their rampant idealism, lies, and self-obsessed agendas.

I am curios if anyone has ever studied hormones in the people who have gender confusion and people who are gay. She mentioned in one discussion how hormones affect children before they are actually born. So is it possible that some children just need a boost in the hormones of their gender, not hormones of the opposite gender?

Basically, what she is saying is more thought has to be put into transitioning because often times the changes are very permanent.. like removal of sexual organs which you will never get back if you change your mind. I can't imagine the regret and despair one has to go through to detransition. Hmm if there is a way to quantify whether someone is ready for transitioning that will be great but there isn't much research? More funding in this area is needed. I see it as a form of transactivism.
