Debunking Mike Israetel's Absurd 'Sleep Is More Anabolic Than Juice' Argument

Mike Israetel has wrongly argued that improving your sleep is comparable to abusing gear. In this video, I explain why his argument is wrong. Additionally, I explore the question of why it is that juicers often downplay the relative importance of gear, and overstate the relative importance of proper training, nutrition and recovery.

Israetel is smart and has a lot of great information, but he isn't infallible (nobody is). Another is his super controlled bent over rows with ridiculously light weight. It's been studied that lengthened partials are as or more effective than full ROM, and especially for the rows, where the back mucles are poorly leveraged to produce force at peak contraction, using super light weight is not going to be very effective. The back can benefit from focusing on the stretch and mid-range instead of letting the poorly leveraged short muscle lengths dictate the weight.

Test or sleep? I just started TRT (actual British NHS TRT, not the mini cycles American clinics seem to like). I'm 44, and have the natural "Test" levels of an albino deep sea fish, as a result of several health issues over the years (see comments in previous videos). Still, I agonised over the decision to use TRT for just over 5 years. I've been on 150mg Test Enantate per week - taken as 75mg x twice per week - for 12 weeks now. Haven't changed my sleep, eating, or training... and I am making some goddam muthr humpn GAINZ. I'm sure someone somewhere is choking to get "hyper responder!" out. Maybe, but one other guy in my age bracket/situation said the same thing, in conversation at my gym. Not a large cohort, I'll grant you. Even when your test is not at supra-physiological levels - mine has been tested twice, around 1000 the first test, around 800 the second. So, high, but "within range". Even accounting for serum saturation stability, and all such words, 150mgs of testosterone is still more than I would produce naturally, and at a more steady rate. It is a sudden outside stimulus, that my body is equipped to deal with, but is unused to, and so it helps noticeably with the "adaptation" part of "stimulus, recovery, adaptation" ("Iron, netflix, gains" if you prefer). No doubt this effect will settle down, but it is happening. I can only imagine the gains I'd make with double or triple the dose, but a long standing blood clotting disorder would make that a very unwise choice. I also don't really want to buy a thong, a seeming prerequisite for bodybuilding, whether excellence or mediocrity is your path (see Dr Mike Israetel). I spend some proportion of my life trying to keep my regular under ware out of the area that thongs are purpose built to embrace.

That natty cope study is pretty bad honestly. It counted all weight gained as lean mass. Anyone who has ever started gear knows its a huge amount of water and glycogen in the beginning.

@@Jafmanz, the people who mix it up a bit quality-wise are the most tricky. Think Greg Doucette. He also had his good moments, but he also, concurrently, is shilling his bs supplements, spilling sophistry ("maingaining" and all that nonsense), and being unnecessarily toxic while playing the victim. Jordan Peterson, almost the same pattern. It's easy to know that Vshred is an idiot. If they're occasionally reasonable, It's way harder. Put good production and marketing on top, many followers etc., and you can really do a lot of harm while being occasionally right.

The fact that Tren literally causes insomnia yet still causes incredible gains, is further proof that steroids is far more anabolic than high quality sleep. You’re right on the money, sleep is absolutely essential for Natural lifters. But for Steroids users, the power of the drugs basically overrides any negative effects that sleep deprivation would normally cause.

Y'all, this guy does not do good research. If you want good information on health and fitness, seek out someone who is literate in science. Miche, PhD is an actual research scientist, go check her out instead. @jl3114
@jl3114 2 месяца назад
I've lifted with dudes who have been on gear for years and you can't even tell that they're enhanced, and pail in comparison to advanced natty builders. Steroids aren't a guaranteed path to success but everyone needs sleep to grow, that is non-negotiable and there aren't even outlier examples to say otherwise.
@KaoWins
@KaoWins 8 дней назад
@jl3114 you're hilarious. It's been documented where middle aged/old men on TRT added muscle mass without ever hitting the gym. That's just from TRT with zero training. Assuming there was another group of middle aged/old men that didn't take TRT who slept for 12 hours every night, are they going to add muscle mass from all the anabolic sleep they're getting?
