What a great rebuttal! I think so many people are looking for "the latest science," that it's tempting to jump over to each diet that makes the headlines. It's great to see you've highlighted scientists who have put in the work over decades to create a tremendous body of evidence to help us all live healthier lives.

Emma Morano 117yrs Italian woman was documented, the 122 French woman was also, the birth certs that are unreliable are Li Chun Yen 256yrs China, another Chinese lady 130yrs and some others over 120 cause their countries started documenting births after their apparent birth dates and so we dont know for sure.

I left veganism due to some of the cultish culture surrounding the diet (and because I had anorexia at the time). I can genuinely say that you may have converted me back down the path (sans anorexia) having found your channel. I can relate because some of my episodes run on Plant Based News and I’m sometimes taken by surprise in the comment section at how emotional eating patterns can be. An interesting development with Paul Saladino is that he is no longer purely carnivore: he now includes honey and fruit. He made the change after he health began to decline on the diet (feeling less energetic, lower testosterone, sleep issues, and rising blood sugar I think, among other things). This shift has been mirrored by others on the diet, with many people finding that (shockingly!) their bodies need some level of carbohydrates to function well. Having been on the carnivore diet (and ruined my health while on it), I can say that the initial benefits make 'true believers' of many people. Unfortunately, the diet is a trap of sorts: the longer you are on it (and maybe the more damaged/deficient you are when you start), the *more* sensitive you become to non-animal foods. Perhaps you become more deficient in certain vitamins/minerals, weakening your digestion. Perhaps the lack of fiber changes your gut microbiome so drastically that it's just not as equipped to digest plant food as well. In any case, this makes leaving the diet seem like a bad option ("I'm in pain when I eat plant foods, I don't want to live like that!") and reinforces the carnivore diet lore that it is the evolutionarily optimal diet ("See! I can't eat rice anymore. I'm clearly running so cleanly that my body rejects toxic plant foods, it must be because it knows they are bad for me!"). Then there is the fact that dieters are warned that there may be prolonged 'adaptation' to the carnivore diet (similar to the 'keto flu'). The result? All negative symptoms can be chalked up to 'adaptation'/keto flu, and considered transitory: "So, feeling badly on the diet? Well, maybe you've just not adapted to it! Take an electrolyte supplement and give it another few weeks. Or a month. Or six. You're just not adapted yet." I guess my point is that it's very difficult to 'debunk' the diet to people who are on it. They usually have to start feeling negative symptoms first AND ALSO lose faith in the influencers/literature surrounding it (so they won't just chalk up their negative symptoms to adaption/wrong protein to fat ratio, etc).

One of the things I like about Dr Saladino is his willingness to change. And be open about the change. I have no respect for anyone who espouses a particular thing, realizes it doesn’t work long term, but continues the same narrative while quietly doing something else behind the scenes.

Of all the big names in the carnivore sphere, I have some respect for Saladino for not only acknowledging that he was having problems on the diet, but for adding back carbohydrates AND encouraging others to do so. A common mentality in the community is that if you go back to eating "sugar" it's because you are undisciplined and just can't hack it without carbs, so you gave in. Saladino is at least trying to combat that mentality now by providing an explanation as to why carbs might not be evil after all. Still, he did lead a lot of people down the wrong path for years before changing his tune. And you can bet that had he not experienced the negative symptoms that he did, he would still be telling people that all they need to be healthy is animal foods, dismissing anecdotes from people whose health tanked on carnivore as liars or not doing it right.

Paul "Salad" is not a medical doctor. His degree is in psychology. He is also not representative of the average American. He works out way more! He is not someone I would recommend following when it comes to the carnivore diet, as that is not what he now advocates. Bottom-line is that hating on Paul doesn't help your argument. Or as it would be termed nowadays: That aged badly.

I ate a lot of salad for six months trying to lose weight. I got stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhea and terrible gas. I had to start taking Beano because my wife couldnt take it any more. I would get done on the toilet and look in it and see pieces of lettuce. I had to take supplements and I started getting weaker in the gym. I started eating more meat less veggies and the digestive symptoms went away and I no longer need supplements. I can only go by how I feel, not by what people tell me.

I'm vegan and I almost never eat salads. Bran is what makes me fat too much. When I eliminated whe grains and ate refined grains instead, my excessive farting stopped.

Yeah, it's so hard to get enough calories and protein from just salad. I rarely eat salad now and 13 years vegan. Lentils or soy beans/tofu are really high in protein. Then whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, and soba noodles are pretty high in protein and calories. That's the foundation to hit your protein and calorie macros. Add whatever you want on those to fill in the gaps. Then, some nuts are pretty high in protein and lots of calories from fat.

So many people push agendas with out any facts, MAYBE an article from a outlying blog or something.. but bringing all the scientific studies into your argument is what more people need to do. Thanks, Stephen! My heroes are scientists who do hard, timeless studies that make a difference. They usually labor in obscurity because their science is all-consuming. But the hired guns for corporations who call their firms think tanks and act as experts...do no science. They spend full time making media appearances and crafting viral tweets, selling doubt about science. And they fool most of the people most of the time. Argh, it kills me.

I left veganism because it destroyed me. I has eczema patches, gerds and low energy. Went keto and lost 30 lbs from 210. Sitting at 180 I followed the carnivore transition and gained 10 more lbs of muscle. Blood work all came back with text book numbers. Have now slowly been adding fruit and vegetables that don't hurt my stomach. I will never go back to being a vegan and I most likely won't eat just meat. I will continue to eat what works for me. We are all human but we all have different DNA and that definitely plays a role in what we can eat and what we can't. Along with other factors of drinking, smoking , pollution and chemical exposure. All should be considered. Smoking will obviously add to clogging up the arteries as well as drinking . Staying active is also a primary factor in this scenario and how the body will react to food types. We aren't built to be a sedentary species. I think the gangs of vegans and carnivores are detrimental to people's health both physically ,socially and mentally. What works for one does not work for all. As for trust the science 🐂💩 It is hard to do when they preached it during covid and were horribly wrong about transmission, herd immunity, immunity from infection etc.... I from now on read the scientific literature and take in the knowledge for myself .

You don't leave being a vegan and go back to abuse ,murdering animals . I don't need to even read all the bs after that. But whatever health problems you faced on plant-based diet was probably you not doing it right ,not transitioning to it gradually ,not taking help of a good plant based doctor ,not having the reasons (beyond new trend) to stick to it and do extensive research on why you might be facing the problems and how others overcame it. Oh detoxing is important as well i believe in case you were unhealthy and even if not.

I experimented by upping my intake of plant food and still do eat a lot of fruits and veggies (way more than avg person) BUT I find if I don't get enough meat I have no energy, literally feel like I drop 20 IQ points within a week. I always make sure to get meat, butter, lard, organ meats. My body falls apart without them.

The most advanced civilizations across time and geography were predominately plant based. The longest living societies are primarily plant based, most elite athletes are heavily plant based, science backs this up as presented in this as always great video. So I fail to understand how all of the sudden plants are trying to kill us and deem it as inferior.

I'm African American 45 yrs old no vegan in my entire family. My husband and I look very fit. Yet he's on one blood pressure medicine. I have MS and been on a blood pressure med for 2 months. Also on blood thinner due to clots in lungs a year ago. I'm so grateful for your channel. I ordered 3 vegan books and 2 vegan cookbooks. We don't eat beef or pork. This channel is the reason we are now eating 4 days of vegan meals and only poultry and fish. Fruits and veggies everyday. We want to come off these meds and lower inflammation and pain in our bodies. Trying to follow Mediterranean style lifestyle. We are new to this lifestyle change and hoping we gradually remove all animal products. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on channels with great vegan recipes. I have IBS also and have problems eating beans need other ideas of getting protein in our diets. Thanks for all you do I've only been a subscriber 2 weeks but I've learned so much tfs

be careful vegan diets include many carbs. dangerous game. i suggest to take out sugars, processed carbs, seed oils, soda,... with a cookbook ofcourse you wil get better guidance than whatever comfort food yu might be eating. maybe his blood got worse since the vacicne shot?

Start adding beans 1 tbsp only a day for a week, then if OK, up it to 2tbsp until you can eat 1/4 cup comfortably , then add 1 mote tbsp. You get the idea with 3 months you will be on the way to a better gut microbiome . Read the book Fibre Fueled by Dr Will Bulsiewicz

Since going Carnivore I’m off my gout and arthritis meds, my eyesight improved, my gingivitis went away, the plaque fell off my teeth, I’m look twenty years younger, I don’t sunburn .. I feel like the list is endless.. eat how you want to eat but plant based made my gout and arthritis worse..

There are many types of diets that provide benefits in the short term for various reasons. After many years of practicing different dietary lifestyles (extreme types more often times than not) I am convinced that diets that deprive you of macronutrients are no good in the long-term, that goes for both meat and plant based diets. In short, the best form of dietary lifestyle (for most, barring health or genetic abnormalities) will be a balanced approach of primarily whole foods, the refined components at a minimum. I bring this up to caution you if you continue with a carnivore style diet for years to come, you will face health complications somewhere doen the road. I do not expect you or anyone to just take my word, as many who experience sudden benefits believe they found their personal gospel, often until it slaps them in the face, rather I urge you to keep your eyes and mind open in the future, and should you face complications or any preludes to such, that you put your practices under scrutiny.

USA is 40% obese, over 70% overweight and rising, getting worse. Most nutritional science over the last century is likely flawed. I did 2 years of mostly plant based diet and it did not work for me. I've been on mostly meat based diet for over 3 years and doing great. If a plant based diet is working for you or anyone else that's great, you should continue. My background is physics, chemistry and BS computer science. I really thought I was going to drop dead in a few weeks if I start eating fatty cuts of beef, but I did it anyway just to test and experiment and that was over 3 years ago.

Having a plant based diet is so much more difficult in the US than most of the rest of the world. Yes you can be healthy with a meat diet (i do eat meat myself) but it really is better to have the large majority of food be vegetarian/vegan.

My dad appeared to be doing great on steaks, fries, scotch, no exercise, and cigarettes until he had his heart attack in his 40s. He quit all that and started jogging, and lived into his 90s. Listen to what Plant Chompers is saying, clean up your life

Different strokes for different folks home slice. My Dr. who is from the VA, suggested I never eat raw vegetables again. I do a mostly meat diet. I’ve lost my bloated gut after only a few days of the diet, and have more regular bowel movements compared to a regular diet of bread, vegetables, and small portions of meat. People are different. It’s that’s simple. If vegetables are working good for you, keep on keeping on, but don’t sit there and tell us what’s right and what’s wrong. You don’t know us.

Sorry but "every 10 grams of fiber you eat reduces your chance of developing colorectal cancer by 10%" is word salad. Is it per day? For how long? He says "every 10 grams" but his next sentence means you can’t add it up. So is it every 10 grams, or just the first 10 grams? How did he come up with this? Then, 10% reduction to a low probability event like developing colorectal cancer isn’t hugely significant either.

I can't say for sure but knowing how most of these quotes come to existence, it's likely just citing correlational data where there must be a significant enough inverse relationship between fiber intake and colorectal cancer. The steepness of the trend he must have found to be 10g daily average fiber to every 10%reduction in risk. He doesn't say if this percentage risk is additive or multiplicative either. Like anything else, this kind of data says nothing about an individual's risk.

“The science us clear that eating a plant-predominant diet is the best thing we could do for our health” … Although you emphasized the increase in the concentration of potentially harmful compounds in the bloodwork of the vegan going carnivore, you deliberately skimmed over the fact that he had REDUCED inflammation markers. The fact that the predominantly meat-eating person also had decreased inflammation would indicate that he didn’t eat solely unprocessed meat products, otherwise it would contradict the finding of the vegan going carnivore. Since modern research is pointing more and more towards inflammation being the thing that drives/initiates atherosclerosis and thus coronary heart disease instead of just the concentration of cholesterol in your blood, one could argue that eating a (non-processed, non-diary) carnivorous diet would be a good choice for people who are generally inflamed because of how many potentially inflammation-triggering foods are contained in a plant-based diet and how going on a meat-based diet lowers inflammation to a bare minimum. Also, I get ZERO fiber in my diet, and I’m having the best bowel movements I’ve ever had in my life, and my intenstines feel more relaxed than ever before. How can you explain that with “the science”? Science is not based on a centralised organ deciding what qualifies as science or not. Anecdotes of people reporting how they feel are not as worthless from a “scientific” point of view as you claim them to be. Sure, the well-known scientific method wasn’t used to test whether some hypothesis is to be refuted, but anecdotes can be an initiator of novel ideas to think about subjects. How do you think medication based on plant compounds ever came to be? -by studying what’s inside the plants of which people claimed -by means of anecdotes- that it relieved their pain or illness, such as the discovery of aspirin in willow bark. In the same way, reports of a carnivore diet being an effective long-term therapy for people with auto-immune disease or epilepsy can be an initiator of research and thus what most of us would classify as “science”.

I'm thinking it might depend on the person and the current state in their life. I'm animal based but am looking forward to a more balanced diet in the near future. I can't live without my frijoles and tortillas, just as I can't live without my eggs, meats, and cheeses.

@@PlantChompers The interesting thing about the meat eaters and Keto in general is they claim that high Cholesterol in it self is not an issue. They basically explain it away.

@@markmorgan8416 The basic premise is that LDL cholesterol is not the problem in itself. It becomes a problem only when combined with a high triglycerides level. The reasoning is that LDL cholesterol clogs up arteries when there is damage provoked by Triglycerides. If you don’t eat carbs, you’re not supposed to have high Triglycerides. I think it makes sense on its own but of course, health is more complicated. The carnivore diet is an entirely new paradigm, so you can’t really rely on statistics established from people who combine high fat with bad carbs and bad quality food. As for any claims, we will only see the effect long-term. In the meantime, it’s every one’s choice to see if they want to risk their health on the unproven promises of a new diet.

@@MyOrangeString As I understand it, the claim is that high LDL cholesterol is supposedly not a problem, as long as inflammation does not cause a blockage. Doesn't a high meat diet promote inflammation? Look at the blood test results in the two person experiment for C Reactive Protein. You can fast forward in the video to 10 minutes 44 seconds. BTW, the reason the vegan didn't have higher C Reactive Protein after the month long experiment is that his gut microbiome didn't have time to drastically change in that short amount of time. Dr. Greger on his RU-vid channel or the Nutritionfacts site talk about that in one of his videos.

Hmmm...Coronary heart disease became a "thing" 100 years ago, when unsaturated fats in seed (vegetable) oils were turned into "food" products through a new process called hydrogenation. This turned liquid oils into solids like Crisco. We were told to stop eating saturated animal fats (butter, tallow, suet and lard) in favor of Crisco and cooking oils. By 1950, heart disease was on a steep rise while saturated fats were steep decline. Saturated fats were replaced with unsaturated fats and added sugar. By the end of the 1960's, cholesterol found in saturated animal fats became the target. As cholesterol consumption went down, cardio vascular heart disease went up, as did obesity, type 2 diabetes, altzheimers and cancer. Today it has tripled since 1970. You don't have to be a scientist to see the relationship between specific nutrients, their consumption and the observable results. The dietary recommendations based on the food pyramid have been implemented in hospitals, school lunch programs, the military and amongst mainstream, dietitians and nutritionists. Our kids are now fat and obese and juvenile diabetes is epidemic. Kids with fatty liver disease shouldn't be a thing if we're "eating healthy". Almost 90% of the western population is metabolically sick. And you still think the food they tell us to eat is ok? My 49 year bad stomach resolved in one day with carnivore. No more stomach aches, gas, bloating, and multiple soft stools per day. There are plenty more benefits that come fast when cutting carbs, sugar, seed oils and FIBER. Perhaps they got the cholesterol thing wrong?? (Oh yes they did; just like a lot of other things). Enjoy your standard American diet with all the tasty sugar and rancid, oxidized unsaturated fat from cookinjg your "healthy choice" foods in seed oils. Nature got it all wrong. Interesting how humans are the only animal that eat a "balanced" diet (of course, in moderation!!!). Every other animal sticks to a specific diet unless starving. And they aren't obese, sick and running to their doctors for "advice"!!

@@gelationousskin835 Yes. Seed oil is an unsaturated fat (as opposed to animal fat that is "saturated"). Unsaturated fat lacks a hydrogen molecule (thus the term "unsaturated"). That missing hydrogen makes the unsaturated fat molecule very unstable (unlike a "saturated" fat molecule that has a very straight, flat shape making it very stable. The stability allows a saturated fat to change from a solid to a liquid and back by adding heat or cooling. Minimal damaged occurs. Damage (oxidization) occurs in the manufacturing process of seed oils where toxic chemicals are used in several processes trying to turn the seed oils into food product (it's disgusting and highly toxic). Hydrogenation is a process that forces the missing hydrogen atom into the unsaturated fat molecule, thus giving it similar properties (texture, look) as a saturated fat. Unfortunately, the level of oxidative stress is so high, the molecule spoils very quickly. In fact, it's becoming rancid as it enters the dark green bottle in the factory and continues oxidizing in your kitchen cupboard and when heated in your cooking pan. Research this for yourself; you already know what the mainstream says about cooking oils so go a different direction and find those that disagree. Listen to their story (science) and then decide which story is convincing. Cheers.

Yeah, and if you are a scientist you lose your mind when a scientist goes to the dark side for the love of money or fame and you can see that's what happened but everyday consumers have no idea because they sound sciency like Paul. I can't believe Paul really understands half the terms he throws around because real scientists usually couch things in more cautious language.

@@PlantChompers No kidding. But then you've been around long enough to know we've had studies touting the benefits of coffee followed by the bad. Now, I think we're back on the good. There was even a cardiac surgeon who believed tomatoes were the Draino for arteries and would help build a diet around them (there's some truth to that-plus they taste good). I guess the other question is how do you get to have alphabet soup titles and degrees and be that far off? Or for that matter, have no advanced degree but an intense desire to know something and be more knowledgeable about your topic?

@@ian408 You know, my graduate school advisor was one of the true greats of the last century, and he taught a class on doing great science. I have never forgotten it all these years later. One of the things I took away is there are a flood of studies but only a few truly great ones. The way the system works, you have to publish often. But great research can take a decade or more. Rather than go on a mad rush to keep up with the flood and by so doing have no in-depth understanding of any of them, figure out what the truly significant ones are and spend the time to truly understand it. There aren't many truly great studies in nutrition (or any field). They take too long and are too expensive. But there are a few. The Adventist 2 study is one, The China Study is another. I don't think anyone has spent a lot of time or money trying to figure out coffee, so I haven't come to know any of those studies. The other day I was fascinated by a study in the Lancet and it took me hours to read and partially understand it. So I zoomed for a couple hours with one of the authors, and now I understand it much better, but not fully. I think it's like really getting to know a country or a person.

@@Baldy Absolutely agree that good science takes time which was where I was going with the coffee thing. I can see questions arising from long term studies but the underlying science should be pretty solid. I do wonder about the data sources. For example, I never there's a place that keeps a lot of tissue, blood, and radiology data. But how do you find enough people to participate in such a long study or collect "the right" samples from a place that provides them? I'm very grateful for the effort you have put into these videos.

He never put them down for their diet choice but rather asked them about it. Same for vaccinations. It's his choice not to take the jab, but he doesn't scoff at people who are vaccinated.

@@PlantChompers If they’re legit. There are numerous reasons for the high percentage of centenarians. Height is definitely one of those reasons, another reason is estrogen, most are women not men. David Sinclair discusses one of the factors each of those areas practices regular fasts and exercises. We're not likely to isolate the "blue zone" effect on a single factor. The research should be taken with a grain of salt.

Coming from both ends of the diet spectrum (vegan / carnivore), I must say at this point both sides have their own sets of facts that counter each other. To have actually done both, for me carnivore diet has been the only thing to keep my diverticulitis at bay. Blood work is all fine as well.

Question: How much fiber were you eating on the vegan diet? I ask because studies have shown that at 80-100 g of fiber a day, diverticulitis becomes nonexistent in populations.

@@karlwheatley1244 Not too much fiber honestly. I don't respond well to fiber. I am certain that that is how I got here in the first place. Wife made a barley soup and felt extremely bloated. Next thing I know my stomach was cramping and wouldn't go away after two days and had to go to the ER.

@@Xaero324 So this is how fiber works. If you currently eat close to zero fiber, you have very few of the gut bacteria needed to digest fiber comfortably. So it is not "you" who doesn't respond to fiber, it's that you don't possess the dietary helpers that people who eat fiber have. So you have to ramp it up very slowly, or you get the problem you described (GasX usually fixes that for people who overdo it). In time, you could easily ramp up to eating lots of fiber rich foods without difficulty. Having said that, very low-fiber diets are a risk factor for diverticulitis, whereas it is basically nonexistent on very high fiber diets. Take care.

Thanks @kanenas. Just thinking this through, do you think it would be most interesting if Will Bulsiewicz debated him and someone like me moderated? Then you have book author to book author, doctor to doctor, same ages. I wonder, though, if it would be like Fauci debating a prominent anti-masker or anti-vaxxer. There doesn't seem to be any field of science Paul doesn't dismiss like earth science, archaeology, or microbiology, even though he's a fairly newly minted psychiatrist. I wonder if it ends up being word salad no one can understand using technical terms.

The longest living culture, The mostly vegetarian Adventists in Loma Linda, have death record back to the early 1900 and have been extensively studied for the last 50 years... The research makes one thing very clear and that is that they are not just living longer, but their quality of life is much better than the average person for much longer.

Plant Chompers One thing that I have found over the last 15 years that shows in my tests is my love for White, Green, Black, Yellow teas of all different back grounds. I drink tea all day especially MATCHA, Sencha, Earl Grey, Budda, Pai Mu Tan, Oolong, Chamomile, Rooibos and Hibiscus tea and the way it has transformed my health over the years has been amazing.

@@PlantChompers did she see health improvements withing less than a week of smoking cigarettes? I did when I started my diet though, I couldn't believe it. And still I'm feeling better and better. I use to be a dedicated health fanatic vegan. I had badly dry skin, muscle pains, bone crackling, mood and energy swings, stomach ulcer etc. Now all that is long past for me including the ulcer. Plus I've lost loads of fat. I look much younger and feel like I felt when I was in my mid 20s. So again, you can't tell me I'm unhealthy basing your judgement only on a theory. You see, I followed "the science" about veganism also only to realize that most of what we are told by some rich and greedy type, is mearly to mislead the people. Like with everything in our lives. Take your mom for example who probably thought that smoking is great for her, which the people in power and the doctors were saying. All to make tonnes of money on illness. Evil. Look at the last two years we had and all the lies. We all followed "the science" told by someone who will benefit from that. So sometimes you need to put the book down and start thinking for yourself, which I wish to all who read this. Kindest wishes

I am reluctantly and cautiously going carnivore and will be following up with bloodwork to keep tabs on it (was vegan for six months in the past but generally at a veggie heavy diet and made amazing salads) But must say since doing so I can already feel my gut healing and chronic pain getting better. I don’t think the solution is to be carnivore fir ever , I believe in seasonal approach, but I will not stand for vegan propaganda or any kind of propaganda for that matter. No more! It turns out(unfortunately) that if there’s money involved a scientist can come to any conclusion his sponser wants him to.

@@flugmodus9214 I'm glad to hear you are feeling better now. My gut also feels much better. I'm not bloating anymore and as I mentioned my ulcer is pretty much gone. Or at least I'm not suffering or even ever thinking about it. Which is a miracle. Yet, I don't think this is for everyone. I think we are all different. We all have different genetics. Some tolerate the sun better than others. Some get balled quicker than others etc. If you read Steven Druker's book "Altered Genes, Twister Truth", which is about GMO's, you'll see how prominent scientists can be bought and the research manipulated. It's astounding. Just look at Dr Fauci for example.

Well, rather than considering the claim to be entirely ludicrous, you could maybe think of it this way: some people do fare a LOT better on a carnivore diet, for some reason. But not everybody. It seems there is a fair bit of variation between individuals. So, I think some high-profile people have tried it and are experiencing amazing health benefits, and so the general public tries the same thing, with varying degrees of success. Because it’s a big surprise and a big upset in the realm of nutrition, the door is open to say "everything we thought was entirely wrong this whole time". Then, we have the charlatans and the bad scientists coming out with ludicrous claims, books and supplements to sell, etc. Finally, after some years, the scientists will have had time to check the science, do new experiments, and we will be able to sort out what was real (for instance, maybe, some autoimmune reactions to plant foods, great allergic variability between individuals, etc) and what wasn’t ("we weren’t evolved to eat plants"... yeah that one has to die, lol)

@@MyOrangeString My daughter was diagnosed with oral allergy syndrome and I seem to have 'histamine intolerance' or mast cell activation syndrome. We are both allergic to birch pollen, which is a molecular mimic for lipocalin 2. We still try to be mostly plant-based and it is easier to do so now that we know which foods are likely to be problematic and that cooking (or in some cases pickling) can make a food tolerable. Room HEPA air filter is also helpful as are allergy medications and supplements. I suspect people who benefit from the carnivore diet may have this type of cross-reactivity thing going on, or perhaps autoimmunity to aquaporin 4 (in which case the offending foods would be corn, soy, spinach, or tomato).

Just cause they might be getting all their essential nutrients, that doesn’t mean their arteries aren’t clogging up and shit. My jaw about dropped with the blood test stat about insulin. Is that referencing a1c? Do you know of other studies that have looked into this? I moved towards a plant based diet two years ago but that has always been something that's concerned me in the back of my mind, having presumed that when my carb intake went up blood insulin levels also would and there may be consequences from that like atherosclerosis. I never count carbs. I do however look at fat intake. diabetes is a collection of metabolic disorders that corelate/are likely caused by excess dietary fat. The elevator pitch goes fat inhibits the uptake of insulin hormone and thus prevents the appropriate storage of blood glucose. As a diabetic, I was vegan when diagnosed. The solution was to just go full whole-foods plant-based. Like many diets I enjoyed immediate weight loss and lowered my HbA1c from 9.5 to 6.5. The lower A1c was likely due to the loss of fat, but was aided by the veey clean and anti-oxidant rich diet I was consuming.

Pain is generally the greatest motivator. I was in a world of pain when I was eating plants. Now that the pain is gone, there's no way I'm going back. As a 54 year old guy who's been vegan a little over 6 years i can tell you that it was by far the best decision i've ever made for my overall health and wellbeing. All one has to do to know whether a plant based diet is a better option than a meat based diet is compare the digestive systems of carnivores to herbivores. Google it, its so easy to see the difference we weren't built for meat only. Can we digest meat and appear healthy? yes, can we smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol every night and appear healthy? yes. Does that mean its isn't harming us? no. The reason people improve their health by eating meat only isn't because of the meat, its about what they've stopped polluting their bodies that improves their health. Of curse your health will improve if you stop eating highly processed food full of chemicals, artificial additives and seed oils with no nutritional value.

It would be very interesting if people would do in-depth videos where they go through studies instead of splashing some citations for a few seconds. Phrases like "science is settled", "consensus among scientists", "trusted scientists", etc is nothing more than logical fallacies and the actual opposite of science. I can find people claiming basically anything with the same methods. Actually showing why some studies prove what people claim they prove (or why they do not) is what sets the actual scientific proof apart from the usual claims people keep repeating.

Okay, so basicaly when someone feels good on a certain diet doesn´t mean it is good for him? Those anecdotes of famous people who died of heart attack has nothing to do with sientific point of view. That is just using it to make people doubt about them selfves. After a year beaing vegan I´ve lost so much of my body mass and my gut was in horrible condition - constipation, dhiaria, awfull smell. Not to say that in my 30´s I felt like a 60 year old man. And no, I wasn´t eating junk food (almost always whole good quality food). And beacause I was brain washed by vegan movement, I was overlooking that I was in a degradation. Even my family and friends were really worried about me. Didn´t matter to me, just save the planet and don´t hurt any living animal (except it´s not true at all). Well I definately hurt mysefl. So how can this be advised as a healthy option if can hurt someone so much? Just asking. So now I eat meat, and eggs and butter and milk (mostly in a raw form - yes even meat), some fruits, some veggies but very occasionaly because now I know what they did to me. I did some more research on micronutrients, toxins, aniturients and so on. The difference in how I feel is way to significant to actualy believe that I am doint something wrong. Sure I might be, but as they always said, trust your gut, and my decison is to folow it literally. Also, you are saing that pandemics are caused by animal agriculture, like there is only one way of raising animals. If animals would be in natural enviroment on pastures, nothing like that would ever happen. But hey it´s nice to say something that will support your theories. Just listen people, never stop listening to your intuition and always reconsider what you are doing is not against your nature. Once you follow someone elses ideas, it´s not gonna end well for you. Anthropologists do seem to confirm that we ate quite a few insects. I used to lead survival trips in the desert and it was amazing how insects became appetizing after 3 days of hunger and delicious after 7. Because they are just noise. They are typically made from questionnaires that people fill out with questions like "how many pieces of bacon did you eat in the past year?" And they are only as reliable as people's memories-which obviously just aren't reliable at all.

@@danytalksmusic Yep they don't take into account that a high-meat diet is not the same thing as a carnivore diet. High meat eaters include smokers, drinkers, drug users, the highly-stressed, highly processed junk foods, fast foods, comfort foods, binge-eaters, the sedentary and obese among other types. Yet most plant pushers like to rely on these types of studies to discredit the strict carnivore approach to wellbeing. And fiber isn't even necessary on that diet.

@@danytalksmusic as someone who has studied nutrition, I can assure you it's a lot more timely and detailed than that. ALOT! As scientist we take all the very detailed information, confounding variables, extraneous variables and build a detailed picture with different types of study types. If a study in the field gets repeated, its to research factors that are confounding, research the different variable types that do or don't impact. The more that's done, the more reliable. The more study types conducted the more reliable all the studies are when collated. Notwithstanding measuring true baselines and not fudging the data which the dairy industry has done but big broccoli 🥦 errrr nope. This is good science and whilst it can never be perfect, good, unbiased scientists work very, very hard to control variance and bring truth to the table and there will always be somebody who rubbishes it, be ause it doesn't suit their narrative, ego and narcissistic agendas. I watched a Chaffee video and didn't see much science in it. There is no evidence diets high in fat and meat are safe or healthy in the long run. Who cares if you feel great for six years if it dramatically ups your risks of heart disease and cancer?

I still don't understand why T. Colin Campbell would study the effects of dairy derived casein protein and then extend that finding when he is talking about other animal proteins. It's dishonest. I found a study that listed fresh white chicken meat as having a completely neutral or even slightly negative correlation to cancer. The Adventist Health Study #2 showed that Pesco-vegetarian women (who ate fish, milk, and eggs but no red meat or poultry) had an even LOWER risk for all cause mortality, ischemic heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and CANCER than the VEGANS (but you'll never hear that FROM the vegans). Numbers weren't as good for the men, but all-cause mortality was only different by .01.

I think conventional wisdom and strong science are two very different things. Sometimes strong science contradicts conventional wisdom; one example is conventional wisdom suggests ulcers are a result of stomach acid, but strong science that won the Nobel Prize suggests they are most often caused by the bacteria h.pylori. When I refer to science denial, I'm specifically referring to denying strong science, not conventional wisdom.

The carnivore diet was conventional wisdom for very many centuries and respected scientists like Dr Salisbury published books about it. But over the last half century an avalanche of science has been published showing how it leads to increased risk of cancer, heart disease, Crohn's, colitis, and a dozen others including type II diabetes - and we have the mechanisms: TMAO, heme iron, lack of fiber, saturated fat, and there are a dozen others. The Norwegians in the first article pose a very legit question: if TMAO from beef and eggs is bad, why is seafood, which sometimes has high TMAO, associated with heart health? They didn't do actual experimentation, but it's a legit question. Dunno if you saw the response from the two guys at the Cleveland Clinic who actually are doing experiments, but here 'tis: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0735109716366943?via%3Dihub The summary is yes, some seafood has it but most doesn't and we don't have data on how much some people are consuming of TMAO-containing seafood and what the effect on them is like we have for beef. It's like mercury in seafood. Some fish have it, but it doesn't have too large an influence on seafood overall, especially if you just avoid mercury-containing fish. In the second reference, I wasn't sure what you were going for. Their concluding line is "The latter confirms TMAO as being a marker of cardiovascular risk." I think it's a shame to dismiss the distinguished carnivores in the recent past. They brought a lot of light to the subject and each wrote great books about it that I read: Ephraim Cutter was a Harvard-educated doctor with 400 publications and his book; James Salisbury was very famous and well regarded, Vilhjalmur Stefansson, also famous and well regarded and they spawned more modern mostly meat advocates who were respected in their day: Alfred Pennington and Robert Atkins among many, many others.

It’s so hard to take through all the muck on social media. I really am a huge fan of Jordan Peterson but strongly disagree with his carnivore message. The scientific evidence is overwhelming that animal agriculture (and especially beef and mutton) are far worse for ecosystems. First it uses far more land that could have been wilderness or forest otherwise (just replacing the beef and mutton in our diets would cut the land used to feed the world by almost 50%). Second, the degradation of ecosystems for grazing and animal feed is much worse than you say, and 36% of crops are fed to animals. Plant-based diets reduce the amount of wilderness acres that get degraded as transformed into agriculture (a vegan diet or diet with just plants, eggs, and fish would reduce land use by 75%), they reduce biodiversity loss dramatically, they reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 50% and they reduce water use significantly. animalvisuals.org/docs/animalvisuals_1millioncalories3.pdf Environmental scientists have made it clear for decades that diets high in meat and dairy are enormously destructive for ecosystems, primarily because livestock are so inefficient in terms of land use and biomass consumed as a means of producing calories and nutrients. I have to say that I really enjoy your style of video and appreciate how much work you put in to present things in an accessible way... BUT I do have to say it really feels inauthentic when you keep calling Blue Zone diets "plant based" when that's just not accurate. I grew up in southern Italy, where we often ate prosciutto, steak, all types of fish, squid, and even horse on a regular basis. I've been all over Italy and seen the same. We even have "tripperie" which are Italian meat stores where all the organs and animal parts are hanging on display all over Italy! We're not "plant based". We eat everything. As do the Greeks and Japanese, the other Blue Zones. Furthermore, you must have missed the latest evidence about how Hong Kong climbed to #1 in life expectancy, after decades of increasing meat consumption- which is now 4x as much as Western countries. Yet, their heart disease and cancer rates are much better than ours... According to this video, they should all be falling over and dying left and right... But that's not the case. Why might that be?

It seems data like Hong Kong's can be explained by several factors. In this case, the increase in life expectancy probably goes hand in hand with Hong Kong improving lots of aspects that influence life expectancy: better medical facilities, more access to modern medicine, people having better exercising habits, etc. While, on the other hand the increase of meat consumption is something that happened in the latest decades and so we will require some decades to see the long term effects for this on population.

And in that case, there shouldn't be anything to worry about since that's roughly the span of an entire human life. Most experts say that 70-80% of health is diet, while medicine, fitness, and lifestyle makeup 20-30%. Many other countries have the same level of fitness, medicine, and healthcare as Hong Kong, but live much shorter lives so the logical conclusion would be that their diet is actually improving their longevity... The oldest members in their current society are the ones who are raising the longevity curve, so that's exactly the people who have been eating meat for decades and are currently seeing its effects on their health!

Meat gradually ramped up in later decades, then seemingly doubled since the early 2000s, but there is evidence that HK's recent/current meat consumption numbers are vastly inflated as there is massive meat smuggling going from HK into China. Heart disease develops steadily over 50-70 years, and most folks in HK were eating MUCH less meat for most of the last 50-70 years, and as noted above, current numbers are questionable. HK is also super high SES, great health care, great respect for the elderly and very livable. Meanwhile rates of major chronic diseases have been ramping up dramatically in Asia as they have increased consumption of animal and processed foods dramatically. Two best predictor variables for the huge rise of dementia in Asia? Animal fat and added sugar.

I wanted more. Epidemiology has been abused since Ansley Keys and the diet heart hypothesis. The point of Paul Saladino(his name is salad?) is LDL cholesterol is not a good marker for heart health. Triglyceride HDL ratio is better but not perfect. Ben Bikman has great science that is modern. Not observational or retrospective. Please make a video on that work.

And he is absolutely wrong on that: Once you sweep away the weak studies with restriction of range problems and mislabeled groups, elevated LDL is the central causal factor in heart disease. Keep apoB in the normal range and LDL C under 70 for a lifetime, and plaques simply don't form.

You know, we had so much success with discovering biochemical components of food - like vitamins C, D, B12 - that you would think we'd have more success with designing diets based on other components like phytic acid, but it doesn't seem to work out beyond a few vitamins and minerals. The longest lived, healthiest people in the world are eating a wide variety of whole plant foods - especially vegetables and beans - and not worrying about lectins and phytic acid. Interesting! So what about the different LDL particles. My understanding is that larger fluffy LDL particles affect arteries differently than small LDL particles. People with larger particle have far less heart disease than those with small ldl particles. I’ve also read that the body produces 30% of the LDL in our body and food absorption is 30%. So if we consume 100grams of cholesterol per month we’d absorb 30 grams etc. What are your thoughts on this?

I've been so disheartened by seeing Jordan Peterson a mental MD, live & give the carnivore diet advice to millions. Frankly, Jordan Peterson seems like he struggles with extremes himself from what I've observed. It's scary, I tried a meat centric diet once ... and my bowel movements alone forced me out of the diet. Just want vegans to know that after 2 years of a plant based diet I did my own n=1 study and corrected the following health problems with only diet, no supplements or exercise: obesity, prediabetes, loose teeth, bleeding gums, sensitive teeth cold sores, blocked sinuses, mouth breathing, left eye twitches (tetany) heartburn, calf cramps, yellow stool, blood in stool edema below the knees, painful feet when walking, sunburn is less shoulder, back and neck pain after waking, lower back pain and stiffness 5+ Years on the carnivore lifestyle now :) Eat Meat, Not Too Little, Mostly Fat

Paul now eats fruit and raw honey. Which makes way more sense. The funny thing is carnivore fixes a lot of issues for people in the short term. So the benefits are definitely there. I was vegan for 8 years but just never felt good, skinny and poor muscle mass even when trying to hit protein goals.

I have severe allergies. The more veggies i eat the worse my gut. The more allergies. I was vegetarian for 7 years. I shifted to mainly meat. The problem is that people who suffer with bad arteries are those who eat bad quality meat, many sugars and seed oils. We keep forgetting about those.... My meat is grass fed and ever since i never ever felt so healthy. And what a relief to be free from my allergies. I hate that we have to combat about what is a better diet. What truly matters is the quality of the food you consume. No seed oils, processed foods or sugars. I mean even veganism has its problems. that's why so many of them have to supplement. So stop this stupidity. Healthy food is a balance of what is naturally found in your surroundings. And sorry i don't want to chew on soy, lentils and kidney beans because they make me very toxic

@@glumberty1 i have my life experience with it. Honestly what's the point. I eat meat and purposely do it for my better because i know my gut feels better on it. I have experimented with veganism for years. I feel better now. And if my arteries suffer then i will do something about it. But right now i feel much much better. I cook for myself everyday and things like a ratatouille, vegan spaghetti bolognese,... Are so hard on me. I get the worst bowel movements from those type of meals. This causes my chronic rhinitis to become even more severe. I suffered from it from the morning till noon till evening until in the middle if my night sleep. I still eat veggies. I love them. But in smaller amounts. I have had a long history with eating organic foods and I am well educated on what is good and bad. Many industrial meats are fucked up. Some meats are up to 20% Filled with chemicals. and 99.8% of the market contains some type of chemical or processing. Of course that type of meat won't make you better. It smells when you cook it and it tastes awful. That goes for almost any meat you find in the supermarket. But the organic grassfed meat i buy is completely odourless and free from nitrates, hormones, antibiotics,... I have not collected any proof simply because i have the experience that quality food will cure you. And that's enough to me. However many of the research are just observations!! and backed by people who say 'sugar is not necessarily bad'. And who did they test? Americans with a sedentary lifestyle? or someone who is well aware of what is truly healthy? The benefits of organ meats are tremendously large. that's why in the wild, the predators first go for the organs because it is the most nutritious. My point is humans are hunters and gatherers. Our eyes are in the front of our face that's because million of years we have been hunting and of course eating veggies. Our gut enzymes recognise meats as a digestible food. I noticed that there are always lies going back and forth between extreme- diets. i like to watch the opinion from another perspective that's why I watched this video. but this man... honestly... my impression of him is that he is over obsessed with not eating meat that he can't even aknwodlegde or agree with the benefits some other may have from including meats in their diet. he is too scared to say that. Many people have cured their disease with a carnivore diet. it is important that you don't go to McDonals afterwards. On any type of diet just skip the true cause of heart disease: SEED OILS!!!! My favourite meal is grassfed minced meat with real natural raw suasage or nitrate free bacon, combined with liver or spleen blended with tomato puree mixed andscrambled egg from free-range chicken in my garden (Literally if they want they can escape). Finally topped with cheddar. also cook the meat in rosemary man that makes it even better. Such a simple meal. you only need 1 pan, it sounds weird but damnnn. what a rich flavourful meal. very fullfilling. when cooking veggies i often occupy the whole stove. this one is super light on my stomach. it amazes me. my waste is sooo much better on such diet. not joking. it's solid. I wrote this long letter, now i hope you will read it haha! I am interested to know your side of the story. what is your experience being on a vegan/vegetarian diet?

I've been doing a keto variation of the carnivore diet for a little while now after learning that my A1C was 5.8 I was feeling much better for a while, but now I'm not feeling 100%. I think some of it may be in my mind. I eat the same foods every day and I fear that might be bad in the long term. However, since I've been eating more meat, my stomach feels much better but I was concerned about my kidneys and foamy urine. Had it checked and my A1C is now 5.6 and doctor said there is no protein in my urine, but my gfr is around 62 down from 64 a few years ago. My understanding is that people who lift weights and eat meat have a higher creatinine level than those who don't, so the gfr might not be a good indicator of kidney health. Doctors never seemed concerned by my numbers. Still, I'm always paranoid about my health and this video didn't help even though this guy is very biased and mostly spewing propaganda. Still, I've always wondered if keto really reverses diabetes or if it just just lowers the need for insulin without making someone less insulin resistant. I want to be more insulin sensitive. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story and I will continue my journey trying to figure out the best diet.

You can't just look at LDL. It's relative to your HDL and triglycerides 🙂if your HDL is high and triglycerides low then it's ok to have high LDL

It was you that allowed/brought in the cigarette comparison when you implied that you feel good doing what you're doing , it allows a parallel reasoning like me saying a heroin addict feels great when they're doing heroin doesn't mean they're healthy or that heroine os good for them.... There are plenty of unhealthy ways to lose fat that can be as detrimental or worse than having too much fat... You can improve different biomarkers in bad ways... You seem to try to be playing this game you don't really understand the rules of... ;-)

Paul did have some great take aways that I think everyone can get on board with and that is eliminate processed foods, reduce vegetable oils in our diet and eat more whole foods. If you’re going to eat meat eat meat that is grass fed, holistically raised and if you’re going to eat vegetables eat organic and ones you tolerate well.

@@PlantChompers he did bring up a point in a different pod cast that the government in America is paying farmers to have their land lay fallow because it’s been mono cropped to just dirt and one way to get carbon back in the soil is have animals freely graze the land. So we know mono cropping is bad and like you said animals can’t sustain our population, what’s your suggestion?

So I was an earth scientist for 17 years and quickly got traumatized by animal agriculture way back in 1980. I know I sound tree hugger environmentalist, but I've never known an earth scientist who wasn't traumatized by it. The first thing is, very counterintuitively, the best thing for the earth is cramming small animals - chickens - in tight spaces and the worst is beef, especially pasture-fed. It takes two calories to get a calorie from a chicken and 6 from a cow. Grass is calorie poor so they need a lot of land and they produce a lot more methane on grass. The food companies have a very appealing story with grass fed and they are winning the marketing. Grazing animals can be very bad for the land, especially if they are allowed to overgraze, and vast amounts of the earth's surface has great soil and great carbon use without them. Here's a fascinating podcast episode with Hannah Ritchie, a very respected earth scientist who works for Our World in Data. You mean the same organization who lets corporate funders help write nutrition fact sheets for them? All that means is some low-carb folks seized power there--or at least power over one white paper. There is no long-term data proving high fat diets are super healthy and safe in the long run--and long run data is all that ultimately matters. Meanwhile, all the best overall long-term results for obesity, diabetes, heart disease and more have been achieved on WFPB diets that were LOWER in fat than American's faux "low-fat diets." Unless we find keto can do an end-run around the usual patterns in the data, after you control for other variables, the research clearly shows that diets higher in saturated animal fat are linked to more disease.

1 cow can feed a family of 5 for close to a year. meat can be sustainable. and the beast way to steer food production in that direction is to support regenerative grazing with your dollars. monoculture is far more toxic for soil, co2 and planet than ruminates grazing that same land left as native grasses AKA an intact ecosystem. factory farming is the problem, monoculture crops are the problem. meat in and of itself is not the issue when it comes to ecological health

1 cow on average will net you between 500,000 and 800,000 calories. The average adult male needs between 2000 and 2500 calories a day (more if doing a lot of strenuous activities). So the average adult male needs between 730,000 and 912,500. Which means, 1 cow will feed 1 man for 1 year. It is estimated that a family of 4 require around 2,2 million calories a year.

A general guideline for health is good but hard limits seem intellectually disingenuous. My mother, 73, eats what any average doctor would say it's a great diet, very little to no drinking, exercises 6 days a week alternating cardio and weights, looks fantastic, yet her LDL is "too low" which makes no sense given that she is doing everything that is recommended to raise LDL already. This causes her total cholesterol to be high. My mother is anecdotal I suppose. I have the same imbalance and I don't do nearly as amazing at life as she does. I do think the cholesterol issue need to be revisited, especially as it impacts health coverage costs here.
