The Royal Rumble is a good indication of how stacked the roster is. The two most revered are 1992 & 2001.

​@@TomasFunes-rt8rdI agree . I'd say 1985-1989 was absolutely the peak. Tag team division was STACKED. The only crime in that Era was too many stars and only 3 titles(world, ic, tag). Mr perfect, Don muraco, studd, bundy, orndorff, piper, rude, bravo, bossman, gang/akeem, valentine, beefcake and on and on. There should have been at least 3 more singles titles, and another lower tag title.

That for sure. Piper never having the title, he could have been the face. I don't think the Undertaker got a run like he should have, mainly because he lived in the main card. They never put a mid-card belt on Taker.

i grew up with bret hart as my favorite one. but most of bret's rivals, i love them also even when i was young. owen hart, shawn michaels. mr.perfect. i had a tough time to adjust with the new stone cold era. but when i am looking back, i am ok with stone cold. that was a clear turn around and his personality was perfect at that time and he acts it perfectly. but i still dont understand how the rock became a superstar. his character is so shallow, i dont even know what it is. i think it switched to flashy shallow antics era. bret hart, stone cold, even its all act but u could feel there is something realistic underneath. i dont fell it from the rock. thats when i turned off.... then of course the wwe got bigger with the rock that made me think how shallow the people are overall....

Indeed The Attitude Era was crazy. 97 to me was a great year prior to The Attitude era. Was in few aspects sad as the year was closer to coming to an end but such a fun year to follow when considering both sides of The Monday Night War. Was WrestleMania 13 from then on watching the transition just the beginning of that year the big hunts one being the Slammys 97. Still had its goofiness but such early hints def set the mold in the direction WWF had to go thanks to WCW forcing Vince to do so. Wasn't til 98 when WWF brought in Tyson for WrestleMania 14 they were more mainstream and Austin to me was solidified a full Babyface his transition was quite interesting. Like no matter what Vince McMahon tried to or not tried Austin became one of those stars no matter what WWF could edit the crowd fx or audience responses all they(Vince) wanted, wrestlers like HBK could do whatever they could (if any intention) there was no stopping the buzz Stone Cold already had and eventually became an understatement. Other than a disqualification I believe at an In Your House ppv 1997 in Rochester NY following WrestleMania 13 (disqualification) Austin never defeated Bret Hart via pin or submission throughout their feud. To me it's said as a good thing the fact he never had to beat Bret to get over and stay over. Bret didn't have to loose to Austin to get Austin over. Hell I believe had Bret never left WWF regardless of how fans felt of him or how well or not so well he would've transitioned into The Attitude Era promo wise Austin and Bret's matches were so good their feud it could've continued to spill into 98 or come back into fruition for a second if not more than one more time and still received great criticism. Broken neck or not Bret was great at making wrestlers of all sizes and styles look good whether they're 100% or not he knew how to compensate when injuries or whatever damage was concerned. Great example Btet Hart vs Razor Ramon Royal Rumble 93 title match. Would've never thought Scott Hall went into that match recovering from a knee injury. Hart knew how to work around that looking out for him and making the Razor Ramon character out to be a challenge. Such a fun match and great small build up to watch

WWF had a bigger audience in the 1980s compared to the 1990s, but WCW was only competitive in the 1990s, so it is 50/50 between the two for me.

That's true.

It's hard to argue eras because so much of wrestling is nostalgia for your childhood. I know Wrestlemania IX sucked to most people, but my grandpa taped the PPV and sent me the VHS tape and I would watch it over and over. As bad as it may have really been, it has a place in my heart and I think most fans feel the same way about their childhood era.

Yep same here. Like everything else, it's lost its luster because it's so easily accessible now.

I used to rent WWF videos as well. I would love to own the whole Attitude Era box set and re-watch every episode in order. I would take VHS before DVD just to give it more of a authentic feel.

To be fair, Vince himself said that when Ted Turner called him to declare that the latter is in the rasslin' business, the former responded that he's in the entertainment business. Meaning that the matches themselves were an afterthought for the WWE. Dave Meltzer gave lots of 5-star match ratings for WCW, NJPW, AJPW, etc... but before NXT TakeOver was a thing, only five for WWE.

@@jp3813 and notice how WCW is no longer a thing now. For all his faults, Vince understood entertainment and how to put on an amazing show (until the last ten or so years) he also single-handedly ended the era of the territories either consuming them or putting them out of business entirely and truly brought wrestling to the mainstream. Yes the actual wrestling is important, but he knew American/ Western audiences preferred characters, people that resonated with the audience in some shape or form whether it be relatability or hatred etc, and that character work came first because it gave a reason TO watch the matches. The way Vince sees it is “who cares about a five star rating from some smark, when I just out Madison square garden and got a million PPV buys and the other show couldn’t even get 20,000 fans to show up but did get five stars.” And until his last couple of years at the head of WWE he was always able to ADAPT with the times, which was also extremely vital. Where other companies refused to change with the times Vince always saw the curve and because of it remained two steps ahead. Idk man he’s a terrible person in my eyes and I strongly dislike him but he’s also a genius to me it’s crazy.

@@iamme25yago While convenience has greatly improved, I don't think the WWE considers any era after the early 2000s as a boom period. Hence, my comparison was mainly Golden vs Attitude.

I was also born In September 1990, and I fell in love with wrestling in 1995. My brother and I would switch between wCw & WWF. I stopped watching wrestling back in 2007 or so.

I was born Jan 1990 been watching both since 94/95 I stopped in 04’ it started getting too pg den the guys I grew up on either fell off or retired HBK & Austin were my favorite then Taker pre American bad ass!!!

That was a badass moment. My first memory of wrestling was a PPV match (Forgot which PPV it was) between HHH Vs Sgt Slaughter. I was hooked ever since.

RaIdErNaTiOn 74..I've been a wrestling fan since 1983 enjoyed the last days of the territories days with WCCW ,AWA and UWF.... Vince pushing Bret and HBK while a good idea Vince clearly didn't want to but do to the Steroid Scandal he had no choice. Sgt. Slaughter become an anti-American was stupid thing to do but not a suprise since Vince likes to use Real life issues into the WWF.

They killed any potential stars turning them into jobbers while holding the the company hostage by threatening quitting etc. I liked hbk at 1st but just like Hogan it became stale and sour that they always won no matter what. Hogan was a giant baby and a habitual liar. When the warrior won Hogan had to stick around for warriors celebration to hog the limelight just like throughout his entire career. Another time was when Randy Savage won and he had to stick around to shit on Macho Man's time to shine. He's a piece of shit too. He made undertaker think he botched a tombstone on Hogan and for 2 years had to live with that guilt. He finally watched the footage and hogan's head never touched the chair but he sold it that his neck was fucked up. I'm glad I wasn't a hulkamaniac I wanted Andre the giant to win wrestlemania 3 and I wanted savage to win also and I was ecstatic that the warrior had won fuck Terry. He's a piece of shite lmao

Incorrect, Hulk was still bigger in the early 90s and Warrior bombed as champion. 93-96 was a mix of Bret, Taker and HBK. Austin was the most popular from 97 until he retired in 03. The Rock was never as popular as him as a wrestler.
