You should ALWAYS tell your children the TRUTH! My biological father was in the prison most of his life and my mother told why & when he was there, I respected her for that. He only got out of prison ..... when his health and meds became too costly for the system. They could have easily changed my last name and moved my biological father out of the picture. It helps a man to know who he is and where he wants to go. When my father died , I consulted my mother about me going to see after his services and she told me to do whatever I felt like doing (that again made me respect her more). I went and made sure my father was buried properly.
