I have been so inspired by your videos that I've been making layer cake dresses all Southern hemisphere summer. I made 8 of them in 2024 already. I get such fabulous feedback almost every time I wear them. I don't put quite so much fabric in them as you do in yours - maybe because I ride a bicycle as my main means of transport so from a practical point of view, I need them to be shorter. Thanks so much for the inspiration and sharing enough information about how to put them together that i could get started.
Thank you! 💕 That's so awesome. Eight layer cake dresses this year!! I'm impressed. They are a bit addictive once you start making them, aren't they? Have you seen Constance MacKenzie's channel? She wears historic clothing and rides an antique bike, she made a video about mending her Edwardian/Victorian cycling skirt. 🚲 🥰👗 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qZxYnub4XV4.html
I’ve learned a lot from you about the importance of structure and fabric preparation. I tracked down the netting here in the US which is called Hard Net Crinoline but my local Joann’s doesn’t carry it. I made the Vogue 9340 Opera Coat in cotton canvas, with the netting structure and lots of hand sewing. I never would have even looked at the pattern had I not seen your video on it. It was so fun to make and I LOVE IT!
That's so awesome! The hand sewing does take forever but it's so worth it, I bet the finished opera coat looks awesome. If your Joann's doesn't have the net, maybe there's a dance/costume shop. Or there's always Mood Fabrics. I would get them to send you a few samples, or call them, so that you can get a stiff netting, not the flimsy one. It's difficult to tell the difference when you're just looking at the photos online. 🎨🥰🧥💕🧵
I love your dresses and jackets the things in my wardrobe that I like yours are skirts and I find much of my fabric in thrift stores. Thank you for sharing, and I will continue to watch.
I love colorful skirts! I've only made 3 skirts (navy, pink/green, mustard/brown) but they're each so perfect, I love them so much. I wish I had good thift stores where I live. It's so much fun discovering a hidden gem. Happy sewing! 🧵🎨
Why do you pleat your layer dresses, rather than using gathers? Just wondering if it is a style choice or? I love your sources of inspirations and bead work. Thank you for all the colour combinations! Very inspiring.
Thank you! Pleating looks more vintage than gathering. Pleated dresses also take up less room in the wardrobe and are easier to iron, in my opinion.🥰🎨👗
