Beautiful construction! It's satisfying to see something done so well. My only question is about how close the posts are to the house siding. Is that going to make it difficult the next time you paint the house? It seems like one more inch of space would have made that much easier.

@vikingnorm6935
@vikingnorm6935 Месяц назад
I’m not that super far from you, Pennsylvania, I had to go 3 x the size of my post, like 12” for 4x4 I used 6x6 so I had to use 18” sonotubes, then attach the the 6x6 with brackets, had to be 36” minimum deep for sonotube pour itself plus 24” minimum footer or “ bell” under that, so basically 5 ft minimum depth, pour 2 feet concrete, then 36” minimum pour on top of that after the footer hardens, 18” round, I just wish I didn’t live so close to the road I live by, my grandfather, since the house was built it 1951, everything he did as far as fixing, upgrades, add ons, me since he passed like 10 years ago, never got a permit nobody ever said a word, boy, everyone is basically new in my town now, 10 years here or less besides me, & they sure make things tough lol, seen me tearing the 40 year old concrete porch off, next day 3 different people asked what I was doing, & also “you are getting a permit I hope” lol

@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 6 месяцев назад
Yes or have full bearing. This is actually no longer up to code in my area (I can just put a 2x4 under and down to the concrete). Be careful with notching though, If you do notch, don't continue the 4x4 up to use as a handrail. Attach a new 4x4 with lags because notching is against code in a lot of places... if you are getting it inspected of course. Hope this helps.

Building on unrestricted property, looking at a floating platform for a tiny dwelling, what are the drawbacks?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 3 года назад
Honestly, If you don't have anyone that has to tell you it's good to go (inspections), I don't think there are many drawbacks. Just build it to what you think is good. If it is a floating platform, the threat of getting hurt from it collapsing is basically gone. If you save money by going down in size for the lumber and skipping a lot of the expensive metal fasteners and it works for what you need, I think it is a win. But I didn't tell you that. 😁👍
