A general deckbuilding guide for the best game on the planet, Marvel Champions.
First, at 13:58 I state that Vivian can Blank Dreadpool's text box, but alas, he's Elite! So that sadly doesn't work.
Second, I had a REALLY hard time getting this video to render for some reason, and had to leave a "blemish" in the final cut at 22:25. Long story short - my software was rendering text boxes fully white, so I had to cut some of them out.

I have a lot of fun building decks! I'd say it's more than half the fun I have with this or ANY card game!

Fantastic video, dude! I am an absolute disgrace as a deckbuilder, so I mostly play the precons until I’m sick enough of them to disassemble the cards. Then, whenever I want to revisit that hero, I copy an interesting deck from mcdb and go to town. But I do admire the skill and patience it takes to deckbuild. It’s all very interesting. Maybe someday I will make it a point to become decent at it. If I do, this is the video I will revisit. (Also, I have a really stupid nitpick which I do not want anyone to take seriously: if we’re listing aspects alphabetically, ‘Pool should come first because it starts on an apostrophe!)

Thank you!! I love building decks, even when they're no great! Figuring out what a hero wants (even if I'm wrong, which has totally happened), testing, tweaking. It's part of the fun of the game for me! If you haven't seen it yet, watch Hawk' Talk which I published recently. It's a follow-up to this video about the changes I made after testing. My best advice to help you get into deckbuilding is START deckbuilding. Focus first on evaluating what (you think) a hero wants so you know what cards to look for (even if you don't know those cards names yet). It's always hardest the first time you do it, but it starts to get easier hen yo know the cards better. And if you don't want to start that way, study the decks you're pulling from MCDB and try to figure out why certain cards were included! Oh I know and hate that apostrophe in 'Pool (and certainly don't mind a nitpick) LOL. There are a ton of cards in Arkham Horror whose names are phrases ("Let me handle this", "I'm outta here!", etc.) which ArkhamDB sorts first (as it should because that's correct). It drives me crazy though because I'll be looking in the L's for "Let me handle this" and so on, sometimes forgetting what I'm looking for is a phrase. In my physical collection I sort by the first letter, but while using the database I've missed cards thinking "Oh, I thought that was a Guardian card, I guess not" because it was at the top of the list alphabetically. So sorting 'Pool as a P is just my small way of rebelling against cards (and aspects) which begin with an apostrophe or quotation marks LOL

Great video! I made my presentation for a deckbuilding video I was doing. I actually came up with the same ally rule independently of in general including 6 or more.

Thanks! Yeah allies are so powerful I never like to have fewer than six! I made this video back in December right before my Hawkeye run through Rise of Red Skull. Saving all 4 captive allies in Taskmaster made a HUGE difference in that run, although they are pretty under-costed. I'm glad they "fixed" that in Project Wideawake!

That was a really good video. Learning to deckbuild can be hard for players without experience in other card games, so a clear video is great for the community. I also like how made an example deck to show the process. I'm interested to see how the deck works out. In my opinion Hawkeye has 2 weaknesses, thwarting (which you covered) and survivability. Endurance helps, but I often struggle paying for enough allies to take hits with him (and recurring Mockingbird is expensive).

Thanks! I'm working on a follow-up video to talk about Hawkeye post-testing; I've played 8 Klaw games with him and 4 Crossbones so far. After 3 or for more I'll move on to Collector 1. One thing I'm gong to talk about is flipping down to alter-ego more often than I expected to, so Down Time can be useful (and Meditation might actually be viable). There are a couple other things I want to touch on too!

@@solomarvelchampion yesss!! i even tried out venom agression 0 allies but that wasnt good idea haha so i put back 4 in! but i still lost to klaw! i know pple hate him but i like absorbent man expert with exodus as modular scheme as try out! i did Beat that one with venom! but angel i did beat klaw! Nova agression aeriel is really good! in fact i Made a deck to play with either angel or nova wirh the same deck! so its funny cause im playing mostly agression.. i just started few months ago and started with justice spider man then tried leadership wich i really like! spefially captain america and second ciclops! but now im playing the agression venom or nova/angel more! and ive never played protection! but.. i have drax yet to open to try my first protección deck with him! ill try collector 1! dodnt know it was like that! i havent open the galaxy box yet

@@jorgedawsonwetto25 Nova is one that I only play in Protection. I love What Doesn't Kill Me (he has so many Wild resources you never really have to worry about the physical requirement) and Ever Vigilant for extra readies! I don't hate Absorbing Man, I just don't play him very often (coming soon though, because I'm running Hawkeye through Rise of Red Skull). Someone I play a lot who MOST people hate is Collector 1. I LOVE how he makes you build and/or play differently: "Instead of attacking this turn I really need to exhaust to free up a card from the collection". Galaxy's Most Wanted is BRUTALLY difficult and a lot of people will tell you to skip it, but there are a lot of fun moments in the box! I think Rocket and Groot are great heroes in their own ways. As a final villain Ronan is incredibly difficult, but still worth playing from time to time! Check out my Two Turn Win deck against Ronan!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GIGoe3-GOxo.html

Great Video. I almost always start with a hero but sometimes it's trying something new like Voltron Iron Man ally or SHIELD. You forgot to mention whether this deck was for MP of solo. Following from something else you mentioned, solo you generally need to cover your weaknesses while MP you might like to lean into your strengths. Depending on your partner(s) of course. That final deck is very like my Hawkeye SHIELD deck with one massive difference, I have 3 x Global Logistics which IMO is the best SHIELD card. So the question is how would you try to correct for missing out something great? I usually end up with an oversize deck & trim it it's more rare that I add things. I also play decks I like a ton so they do get refined. I do tend to fall back on favourites set of cards quite a bit but I also avoid cards that I have got bored of; slightly too good ones like Nick & Ironheart for example made worse by being grey. (other minor differences: - all SHIELD allies, Homeland Intervention as thwarting event, No extra doubles and Gov Liaison, Helicarrier and Field Agents for the SHIELD synergies. ) I couldn't see what you considered the best cards in the deck over allies. Allies are the best outside some very specific hero cards IMO. EG Cap Marvel has only got Energy Absorption that is better than a generic 2 cost ally, though she is an outlier.

Thanks, and thanks for watchig! Yeah True-Solo for sure, which just comes from an earlier statement that "this video will come from a true solo perspective". Here's an interesting thing, I've only played 5 MP games period, so I never even thought to say "Lean into strengths in MP and Cover weaknesses in solo" LOL, but I mention it as an option a little later. As far as using certain cards and not using others for this build - long story short - a software problem left me with 8 minutes of audio for a 20 minute video of building this deck in MarvelCDB. I had to scrap that segment, but in it I talked about Global Logistics specifically (which I also think is the best SHIELD card), saying that you pretty much need a full SHIELD commitment to run it, and since I had done that in my Scarlet Witch Deck I just didn't want to build another SHIELD deck. (The Scarlet SHIELD: marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/31515/the-scarlet-s-h-i-e-l-d-1.0) That was a general statement that most heroes kits are their strongest cards, and we know that there are several for which that isn't true. I did miss an opportunity to say the reason for that (imo) is because they often have some internal synergies to play off of. Arrows are definitely Hawkeye's internal synergy - finding, playing and paying for them - with only 1 card in his kit not doing so (Mockingbird). I'm working on a Hawkeye Leadership deck which cheats Weapon X into play with Build Support, and Gamora and Ghost Spider with Make the Call and Call for Backup to dig out arrows, but that seemed too far out for a "general thoughts" video, so I went with a very general Justice build to get my ideas across.
