I'm a fast declutterer. I always focus on numbers when decluttering. This kid needs 14 tshirts, 7 dress shirts, 5 jeans, 3 slacks, 5 skirts...... Same for myself. I just quickly pick out my 20-25 faves, and the rest goes. I have a 7×10 WIC, and ALL of my tops take up approximately 20" of hanging space. Same for everyone else in my house. We dont really store anything. If it's not used, then we dont need it (except Christmas decor). I have a clean house but hate cleaning, so for me, having less stuff is better.
Michelle, you are officially my personal hero. Watching you packing I was thought to myslef poor girl and she's an amazing and hardworking person. Then I had a thought - what if I had to move - and I choke! Couldn't even imagine it. You're a hero. Love you. I hope your strenght keeps growing.
Michelle, don’t apologize for what you like. And it’s no one’s business how much money you have. You and your husband work hard for what you have. I once had a person where I worked make a comment a to me when on payday we got our checks. She said something to the effect that she wished she got a check as generous as mine. I said she could is she went back to school and earned the degrees I earned. My spouse and I worked hard for everything we have, and it really upsets me when others want to make us guilty for what we earned. We are not wealthy and I always budget and always will to provide for my family. To
I had to declutter both ways. We downsized. We had a two story home. With the same amount of bedrooms. But the house was much bigger in room size. And we had way more storage and a two car garage. We have almost no storage in this house. We have bedroom closets and that’s about it. I use my laundry room as storage too. So I have to declutter all the time. I like my things and so does my husband. I have a cordless vacuum. But I’m going to buy a corded one to use. I lost the diamond out of my wedding ring a few days ago. I assume it’s in our septic system. But I thought I would check in our bedroom behind the headboard. It was so nasty. Because I can’t move the bed too easy. It’s on wheels, but it’s hard on the carpet. And my battery on my vacuum stinks. So I’m going to buy a new corded one. I go through them quickly too. But they work much better. We moved from Ohio to Georgia. So we didn’t think we would need winter coats. But I brought all mine anyway. I gave two away to my granddaughters. They didn’t have one. This last winter I never wore my winter coat. But we froze our behinds off the winter before. My husband kept saying he was moving to Florida. But it was cold in Florida then too. When we moved our daughter were grown. One already lived in Georgia with her family. The other was here. But she moved back to Ohio. And she still lives there. And my oldest granddaughter and her boyfriend and their son, who is my great grandson live in Ohio too. They were all just here for a baby shower for a different granddaughter. She’s going to have a baby boy too. At the end of July. Then she might move back to Ohio it’s her other sister. Pretty soon we’re going to be down here by ourselves. And that’s okay with me. I love where I live right now. We moved in the country and it’s nice. My husband would bring stuff out of our attic and have me go through whatever it was. Most of it was our daughters things. Mostly our younger daughter. I feel for you. My husband and I were not getting along during all the sorting and packing part. I wasn’t feeling great. But I was trying to do my part. But he did most of it. I feel the same way. I have a lot of clothes. And I like to have choices in what I wear everyday. It’s usually shorts and a t shirt. I have a walk in closet in the master bedroom. And I have dresses and blazers in the guest room closet. I just never get back in there to declutter that closet. I need to so I can get the dresses I have now in that closet. My daughter’s birthdays were close together. So we just had one party until they went to school. Then we would have a sleepover for some of their friends from school. My husband was a police officer and he always had to work a big Halloween party where we lived. So I had a bunch of girls at my house by myself. Until he got home after the party was over when the bars closed. One yer didn’t go so well. They went to magnet school. And they invited the girls they went to school with. Which were mostly white. But one of my daughters invited a black friend. And one of a snotty girl Sid she didn’t want to sleep by her. It was kind of intense. We got that settled. And I think she was one of my older daughters friend. So I to.d her she wouldn’t be invited if we did it gain the next year. I’m stopping now. I feel like I just wrote a book. 😊
Hey! My oldest just turned 7 and this birthday we did a party not at our house. It was amazing!!! Family was invited but my oldest wanted school friends at her party too. I don’t think I’ll have ever another party at my house. Parties have become a big production because of social media! If you don’t share everything then you don’t feel the need to keep up with everyone. Good luck on your house journey!
Birthday parties these days are expensive because people think they need to do extravagant birthday parties! It’s crazy the parties my sisters throw! We keep it simple when we throw parties. I cook a big pot of white beans and my husband will fry fish we caught and make jambalaya or something and we play games and have fun! I’ll get a balloon arch kit because they are inexpensive! lol also will buy a cake from our local grocery store deli for less than $30 and I’ll print and cut out a picture of whatever theme! And everyone loves it! My sisters will pay $300 plus for the cake alone! We have a pool and I bought a water slide from Sam’s years ago! They don’t have to be expensive! As for your clothes I totally agree with you on that and wish I had your closet! and that’s how I feel about everything in my home! Minimalists will tell you to declutter and buy whatever it is you declutter whenever you need it.. WHAT? No I will keep it even if I barely use it instead of buying it again lol no way!
I have had a year tied up and selling my home. A couple of people walked not qualifying so I have put everything quickly and storage, but I have done a lot of thinking and planning and I am going to be a quick thinker of decluttering at my storage. I actually have a Goodwill in the same parking lot and I am heading there.😮😅😊😂😂 I think the reason I’ll be able to be a quick thinker is because I’m going to a warmer climate and I am retiring and I know I don’t need all of this stuff. I’ve watched several decluttering RU-vidrs and I am excited to downsize, so good luck with everything that you are going through. It’s okay to declutter later I feel😊. I love your art box for your kiddos. I love your idea to have an adult box too. I write to my mom n aunts most ages 85-98. I send cheerful notes n cards. Hey Friend, Happy Friday. I have been enjoying the moving content and I’m glad that you can still put out videos every Thursday. 😊 I am slower to decluttering because I have grown attached to all of my items. 😢 I don’t have kids of my own but my parents stopped throwing birthday parties for me after I turned 16.
Two years ago.I moved to a smaller home. The home I left, I lived in for 17 years!! You can imagine the stuff accumulated in that time! I decluttered 60% of my home. Got rid of bags upon bags of things! It was easy for me. I don't get attached to most things. When I unpacked in the new house, I got rid of more stuff!! Its a good feeling to have less!.
We had parties for the first birthday only. Every other birthday we take a trip and let them choose the destination. It has worked out great for us. They remember the memories we make on their birthday trips and I feel it’s more personalized just for them.
We moved to the house we are almost a year ago. A new realtor in our area stopped here today to give us her card in case we were interested in listing our house. I told her that it will be a year in July since we moved here and we are never moving again…she laughed lol
Michelle I look at your closet and think OMG you have more clothes than you will ever wear! What you have and how often you wear what you have IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS, and it's not up to me or anyone else to judge. You've been working hard at packing everything up and it is a huge job, so good on you! Your possession date is getting closer and that is so exciting! We have 3 grown children and I threw each of them a birthday party until they were 12, after that they picked a restaurant and we went out to dinner to celebrate. I was so over parties by the time our oldest was around 8 or 9. They were expensive back then too! Good luck however you decide to celebrate!
Great video! I have a lot of clothes as well. It's nice to shop your closet. I went thru about 2 years ago and got rid of a ton̈ that I was sure I would not wear. But, I still have a lot! It makes me happy ❤
My declutter story... My closet was so packed it was unreal...NO ONE was allowed in my closet...I felt the same way you did I might need it and I really wanted it.....whatever the case may be.....the last I checked I was just under 60 pairs of jean....then....2 yr ago I was diagnosed with cancer ....immediately I stopped smoking and gained 40 lbs.....it was hard to get rid of jeans ,shirts,.....things I treasured but I knew I would never go back to smoking and losing that much weight I did.....get rid of them all ....on a new adventure of buying bigger close and NOT smoking..... and yes CANCER FREE #lungcancersuxs
Hi Michelle! I’m a fast declutterer…always have been. I did just family parties for my kids until they were in grade school then they had a small friend party. Of course when they got older, it was a sleepover party😩
I had parties for my boys ages 1-7 with family and grandparents and close friends. Then 8-13 away from house. Bounce house was a favorite pool parties were always fun.
The hardest part for me was detaching emotionally from the items. Ugh. That journal called Throw It Away by Guru Notebooks was helpful during the time I was throwing stuff out.
I am very excited for you!! However when I moved into a new house I realized that I didn’t need all the stuff for the new house. I didn’t want to junk it up. Can’t wait to see how you guys decorate the new house 😊😊
Honestly, I don’t look good in clothes, 😂, but if I was you and looked good in everything I’d have a lot of clothes too, you don’t owe anyone anything, you continue to do you. Congratulations again,can’t wait for the unpacking and organizing. Safe travels.
Hey Michelle glad you guys are having a break. Kids Birthday Parties are a lot of work. My kids would have a party every other yr. They got one for there 13 b'day then 16, 18 and 21. Our kids we would just do a family dinner at home or go to a restaurant. You do not need to apologize for the way you are, If someone say's anything to bad. When my youngest turned 7 we had just moved a few months before hand so didn't really have many friends yet. His Aunt and Uncle decided that we would do something special and Aj had seen Puffing Billy and loved trains. So we did a surprise for him and we went on Puffing Billy ride and had a picnic. He still brags about t at the age of 27. Puffing Billy is a stream train in Melbourne Australia that the public can ride on.

I think it's easy for some to judge people on the amount of "stuff" they have however no one should be judged. I grew up in a home where I had to buy my own things starting at 16 (clothes, shampoo, etc) as my mother said she wasnt going to anymore. So when I became an adult I bought the things I wanted anytime. When I moved into my home, I realized I kept so much stuff (clothes, decor) etc that I was so over...I enjoy now having less things. If I get a new shirt, I have to donate one. I keep empty laundry baskets in my closet so if I try a shirt on that I no longer like or doesn't fit it gets put in the basket for donation. I also had grand ideas of decluttering before moving but never happened. But it's getting done now so that's all that matters. Progress over perfection!!!!!
I stopped bday patties for my son a few years ago. My son will be 13 in a few weeks. So maybe.....4 or 5 years ago? He just wasn't into having them anymore. Now we usually just get together with my bff and her kids. This year, we will be getting together with my sons father, his wife, and my sons step kids at an amusement park in our area. So not really a party.
Hi Michelle, my daughter is turning 18 in a few months and she still wants theme parties!!! However, the themes are different, it’s not Disney anymore it’s like Hollywood party, rose gold theme party or anime theme party that she is very into at the moment. I am still inviting the same people that I invited from the beginning and I will keep doing it until she doesn’t want them no more. I will probably miss them when she no longer wants them even though every year I say I will not do another one.!! Because it is true that they are a lot of work and expensive.
I just think about it if it has been in this hanger for more than a season and have not wore it means I’m not going to wear it the next one and let it go
We stopped birthday parties at 12, but the older they got the fewer kids we invited. So by the time they were 12 it might just be two friends at an amusement park.
I would give your boy a few birthday parties because later he will probably feel like you didn't love him the same as the girls. Im the youngest of 6 kids and never had a birthday party when all my other siblings did and lets just say thats exactly how i feel. Like my parents ran out of love and i was just there. As long as i have air and food. Another things is you could take them to a water park or something instead of MORE toys. Thats what im going to do with my almost 5 year old. My daughter inherited my Barbie stuff and there's a lot because I've been Collecting Barbie for 15 years. Because of never having toys when I was little.

Believe me, people can't be happy with only money, that money cannot make people happy :) If you don't want to be happy, even if you have a lot of money but if you don't want to be happy especially about some simple things, you will always feel unhappy whether you have money or not..
