I’m not even a dog person, but I love the way you cuddle your “babies.” I have to agree with another commenter that you pretty much have the perfect RU-vid recipe: humor, knowledge, relatability, and you’re impossibly cute to top it off.
He just seems to be a good person with a kind heart. You can see how loving he is with his puppies. I also find him smart, logical, classy and funny. I like that he actually studied home decor, and you can tell he knows his stuff.
You're one of the few timeless designers. I love you for encouraging people to learn how to incorporate their sentimental, historical pieces into a current scene!!
Garrett I love how you incorporate budget and environmentally friendly tips into your design advice without making it all about just that. Haven’t found anyone else who can pull that off quite like you!
Thanks so much! I guess we are all unique in our own way, and I just try to provide as much information in a fun and non-judgmental way to help people.
Albert is definitely the reason that I subscribed immediately subscribed, when I first found your channel, Garrett. I liked your obviously decorating expertise, but in that first video I viewed, Albert dropped by, and your care for your darling little "special friend" made it obvious that you were a truly caring individual, and that sealed the deal.
Welcome to the channel Elizabeth! It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family! We feel it is an honor and a privilege to have Albert as a part of our family. He's an inspiration and a hero. We love him so much, and his brothers do too. They respect him. :)
"Save the things you love and enjoy, even if they´re not the most trendy or popular thing." Thank you for this very good advice! I definitely can't live without my antique brass fixtures and opal glass shades...these are so out of style I can't even remember the last time they were trendy. I LOVE opal glass, these lights are so beautiful!
Oh yes! Opal glass is very pretty! Brass is not ever going to be out of use in home fixtures, i think. But things seem to be more clean and streamlined than the ornate fixtures and hardware of previous decades. Besides, quality never goes out of style, and having authentic heirlooms is more special than up to date decor. By all means enjoy your unique, lovely opal glass! 💜
Antiques and family heirlooms are most of what I grew up around. With the passing of a generation, I inherited a lot, so the tradition continues. Not every piece is kept "just because" it belonged to someone, but the sense of connection coupled with quality and curation is what makes home for me. I wouldn't want it any other way.
100% agree with this list of necessities . I personally would add That I can not/will not live without multiple vintage Persian or Turkish rugs in a home with hard Flooring.
One of my must-have Essentials are battery operated lights and candles. My house lights up like a Christmas tree around 4 every evening. And in the spring when the electricity goes out in the storms I'm the only one that has lights. And I love antique books
Loved this! I’m a lamp person, too. And yes to real, unpainted wood furniture! I think the decor I can’t live without is things from travels. When I look around and see the woven box I brought back from Italy or the wall hanging from Argentina or the carved wooden animals from Tanzania or even the photos of Iceland and Ireland in the bathroom, I get to relive some of the best moments of my life.
I'm in total agreement on wood furniture. Have to have it and don't want it painted. Also, I can't live without all my books. There are books in every room of my home.
I moved in w/my dad & stepmom when I was 14 years old. Thus began my love affair with “blue & whites”, old books, and amber glass. Mom had me wrap and ship the amber glass to myself during one of my last visits before she passed away (she lived in the northwest and I live in the northeast). Hearing you talk about these things has me thinking it is time to circulate the display in the dining room. It also prompted some lovely, warm memories. ❤ Thank you.
Thanks for watching and sharing Debora! Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
I Garrett. First of all let me say Little Albert stole the show. Love him ❤. Tomorrow I am going to put an end to the travelers in my home. The only one that needs a getaway is me and not the woven rugs in my kitchen. Thanks for the tip.
Traditional Rugs (Persian mostly), green plants, vintage mirrors, lamps (I'm obsessed with lamps), artwork, blue and white china (hehe), white bed linen, oversized blankets, silverware, brass ware and orchids. I have one orchid which is 22 years old. I am so in love with it. Ohh and books. Lots of them.
I really loved this one. I think it’s because you hit on a few things I struggle with. Family pics is one. I have no family pics in my living room but in the surrounding rooms and I think because I don’t see many family pics in RU-vidrs’ home. And also I have more artificial plants than real ones. I moved to Las Vegas recently and my plants die here. I’m still trying to figure this out. Keep doing you. I love it.
Hi Garrett, I am building a new home. It's all white, with mainly black metals, and some brass for a bit of colour. But taupe couch, white pretty much everything!.....I love that look, but like you said ....some blue in with the white (the island, special pottery, pillows, here and there, just a bit ) and yes, a few plants up high so my cats cant get them!...Sounds like I'm doing it right from what you said. And as you were saying, my lifestyle includes my 2 cats (white!)....and all their stuff. I can't wait. (wood tables and floors). Loving it, and can't wait! Love your vids:)
I can’t live without my family photos. I like to do, for example, copy a black and white pic of my grandmother, my mother, myself and my daughter and put them vertically in frames to show the generations of women. I would add my great grandmother if I could find a pic of her! That holds interest for me a chronicles my line.
Hi Garrett! I am so happy I found your channel! I love mahogany furniture. I love woods, dark woods. I also love dark paint and white trim. My favorite wall color is a rich dark gray which many design experts say is out. I have been painting my house gray since the 1980's and I have always loved it. I have tried painting other colors but I always go back to dark gray. My home is a mix of nice furnishings and some matchy matchy and cheap stuff that needs to go. I need to "finish" decorating my home and feel comfortable in it. I have been stuck in a design rut for a while, I searched many channels before I found yours. You are the first interior designer I have come across that says "You do you!" and means it! You have inspired me to move forward and finish my home! Thank You for being you!
Plants and flowers are must in my home. I also have things from my travels all over my house to remind me of the wonderful experiences. Last, as a new parent, muted tones or neutral baby gear is a necessity.
Thank you for addressing the need to include our furry children into our decor. In honor of Albert, I think it is worth mentioning...a blind dog will use rugs to help navigate their way around a room. I once put down rug runners to lead my dog to his bed.💓 Also, with a blind dog, furniture should not be moved around, lest they bump into it. Hugs and kisses for my fav...Albert! 💘
@@GarrettLeChic you are such a loving parent i know know Albert is living the blessed life with you. My hope was to bring awareness to those who may not have thought about it. Love that you share your furkids with us!💖
I bought blue willow China 15 yrs ago because I like it. Then I bought the pink willow china because I like it. They matched nothing in my home. But now my home is slowly changing to the things that make me happy. Sapphire blue is my fav ( September girl) and my home reflects it without going over the top. Thanks for your family photos comments. It makes our family home reflect our family. Enjoyed this video so much!!!
I absolutely must have 1 or 2 accent items in a room that are black, like maybe a throw pillow or a black lamp base with a pretty white silk shade; nothing large. Maybe knobs on a dresser or a picture frame, you get the idea. I just think black in a room is very elegant, but only in small sizes!
Thanks Garret! My husband likes to charge his phone in the bathroom. Years ago, he started tucking his phone charger in a decorative vase I kept on the counter. We hate clutter, and I thought this was ingenious. It not only looks better, but we don't have to worry about wires getting in the way. I also love drawers in side tables to tuck all of my essentials. In the bedroom, I keep my hand cream, lip balm, ,etc... In the living room next to my comfy chair, I do the same, but also keep some office supplies: pens, pencils, a pair of scissors, and even a box cutter. I like opening my Amazon packages there, lol.
I have four lamps in my living room that are set up in a way that all I do is flip a switch and All the light comes on. So simple and instant ambience.
We were twins separated at birth! I'm an Interior Designer, (female), LOVE, LOVE, LOVE blue and white and did my whole house in Asian blue and white, I use decorative boxes to hide essentials like glasses and lip balm and perfume spritzer around the house, and I totally not only believe but KNOW that layers of lighting are essential in a room. Aren't we smart??? AND chic!
When I first saw the caption, I thought it might be suggesting to buy things that were a must for the home. LOL. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to realize that the things I already have in the home, are a keeper!😊 Great analysis of what makes a home beautiful. As usual Garrett, your voice of reason and practicality keep me watching your videos. Thanks so much 👍
I hope my Grandfather is looking down and smiling. Everything he owned had to be blue, including every single car he ever owned. 💙 He was definitely all in. It is the color that speaks to my soul as well, but thankfully I can moderate. Lol.
I love your blue rug. Blue is my favorite color and YOU are my favorite decorator. I just you lived close enough to help me with my home. I love your little fur babies, too.
I love vintage frames also. I have re framed a couple of oil paintings in vintage frames. If the frame isn’t the exact size I need, but I love it, I buy a mat at the craft store and attach it to my painting, then cut it to fit my frame. It is not professional framing by any means, but once you hang it, you can’t tell.
I'm unpacking after a move, and now I know that I can't live without beautiful rocks. 😁 Stone bookends, polished stones, rare rocks I've collected through the years... Heavy! Stone and copper. I love them both. Thanks for another great video. I'm glad I'm a subscriber.
I’m for family photos everywhere except the bedroom. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because if I’m upset with someone or missing someone who’s gone, I don’t want to see their picture first & last thing. And, there will NEVER be such a thing as blue & white ceramics and porcelain not being amazing! It’s been beautiful for 1500 years and counting.
Garrett I just share with you the joy that my English and Chinese blue and white pieces bring into my home, I actually have a colección of vases, dishes, flower pots, trays and so on. I also love chandeliers and lamps.
Hi Garret. Do you do remote consulting? I bought a home in Florida that has been updated in contemporary style. My style is more traditional and I inherited the prints plus my own paintings and several beautiful Baker wood pieces. I close on 3/15 but am not sure when I will be able to move as mom has forgotten how to walk (severe Alzheimer’s) and suffers from anxiety so may rent an rv. The kitchen is of concern, in particular, as it is an open concept home with the white high gloss cabinets on display for all rooms to squint their eyes at 👀 jk. I am in Kentucky. Rebecca
*Plants.* I begin each day checking them for watering needs and new growth while enjoying my morning cup of coffee. It puts me in a calm and positive frame of mind for facing the day ahead. A room without a plant (or more!) feels sterile and lifeless to me. Also: books, family photos, a comfy chair, and my mineral/fossil/gemstone collection (corralled into a display case, though some have “escaped” 😉).
Sounds great! Everyone should have something that is particularly relaxing for them which starts their day, and things in their home that bring joy and comfort.
@@GarrettLeChic You’re very kind to respond to comments. I hope you realize that your videos have helped many of us get through stressful times (which unfortunately don’t seem to be over yet), providing much needed distraction with inspiration for projects, validation for our choices (gazing at my gallery wall of family photos here…), and touches of humor and fur-baby adorableness. At this point you should consider yourself a mental health professional, LOL. Thanks! Much love and appreciation, from Colorado.
Agreed! Albert is very smart and independent minded. He likes to do things on his own as much as he can through scent and memory, but he's always safe and protected.
Sending kisses to Adorable Albert! I'm into gardening and sometimes I bring flowers in the house, and recently I started to get house plants. I literally set a phone alarm to remind me once a week to check on them :P because life. Wait.... palatial size comforter?? Never heard of that!! I love turquoise color and have something in that color all over, being it trendy or not, because it makes me happy, and I'm so glad you tell people your advice to keep what makes them happy (and you are not going to find a gray wall in my house thank you very much)
Thank you for sharing, and thanks so much for watching, and supporting our channel by pushing that subscribe button. I have palatial size in my Amazon Storefront linked in the description section of the video.
Beautiful colored and clear glass candle holders of all kinds, tealight candle holders, candelabras of all sizes, floating candles with flowers. Really sets the mood and sets the table.
Love your essentials list! For me, musical instruments bring so much warmth to our home. We have a beautiful antique upright and multiple stringed instruments…they all get played regularly which is lovely.
Omg, I cannot believe this channel! ❤ I am soooo tired of this trend or that trend and being told how dated this or that makes my home!!! I know what I like and what my hubby likes and I don't give a rats behind about trends!!! Hubby & I both love mahagany traditional furniture. I have found some neat pieces on offerup that complimented the furniture that we already had. Garrett, I'm so glad I found this channel! 😁
Hello Garrett! I found you not too long ago but I have to say, you speak to my heart. I've never known or seen anyone like you who enjoys and loves what you love nearly in the same way I do. It has made me feel so relieved and low-key validated that we seem to enjoy many of the same things when it comes to interior design. It's also SUCH a breath of fresh air to see an interior designer who knows what they're talking about that doesn't just follow trends but follows their passion and style. You inspire me tremendously and I'm currently looking to rent my very first apartment, and whenever I wonder "what should I get for x?" I watch your videos to get inspired. I LOVE blue and white porcelain as I think it makes a space look so chic and sophisticated. So happy to have found your channel and please please please keep up the excellent work! Sincerely, a forever loyal fan❤️
Thanks so much! Welcome to the channel! It's great having you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. :)
My 1 absolute essential for my home that i can't live without are beautiful lush expensive throw pillows, flowers, Vessels, books, lamps and Wall Art!! So basically everything 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for always making me laugh. And for showing off those beautiful superstar dogs of yours! ❤️ My "can't live without" is green. Especially vintage green glazed earthenware, green glazed ceramics, and green glass. I painted my apartment a soft grey-green, my bedding and some of my upholstery is green, etc. It's easier to mix different greens than other colours. And it's just a very peaceful, calming colour, like bringing nature inside my home.
I love artwork depicting nature. I often find something at a thrift store or yard sale of animals or flowers that have been painted by someone unknown but are beautiful.😍
Hello Garrett.. all great tips! I agree that we should buy items we love weather its in trend or not...this is why I don't do trends I love antiques and vintage items they make my heart sing......and I'm not changing that for anyone or thing....personally I think your home is beautiful and the blue and white is always classic in my opinion...love your channel just keep doing you sweetie....oh and kisses for your sweet Albert and fur babies...I have two Maltese fur babies that I adore.
Garrett, I wonder if you recommend any specific type of blanket for your dog beds? Our dog sheds so much and even though we wash the blankets, the hair persists! I'd love a pet decor video!
We just use simple soft quits as they love them. I would suggest speaking with a groomer about deshedding methods if it’s very excessive. I will give some thought to pet decor.😊😊😊
Another great helpful video. I like how you're always positive and encouraging to with advice how to decorate with the things we love. Things I can't live without are items from my grandmother, mom and mother in law, that have been passed down. I always like to find a place for them. No matter if they are on trend or not. :)
Thank you for highlighting family photos, my husband moved to my country and family connection through pictures are very important. And I enjoy seeing my family members. Just do it tastefully.
THANK YOU for saying photos are good!!! So many designers advise against it, and I can't live without mine. They are so important to me. Love everything about your channel!!
You are so welcome! I'm really glad you are enjoying the channel Bonny. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Garret, I absolutely love your classic taste, how you encourage people to get what they like instead of promoting trends and consumerism. Right now I´m having my home renovated, it already looks like a totally new place despite I kept all good items I already have. The sofa set is of the best quality possible, matchy matchy but the one seat sofas don´t fit in any other room. I thought you wouldn´t tell anybody to throw away great quality pieces and buy something new. I simply bought some nice pillows and that´s all.
