Deduction and induction are two words you've surely come across relatively frequently... but did you know they're core pillars of our thought process?
In other words, by understanding deductive reasoning as well as inductive reasoning, you'll be able to... well, be a better thinker.
I've defined deduction as well as induction, explained the meaning behind inductive reasoning as well as deductive reasoning and did my best to provide examples of both induction and deduction from our day to day lives.
Is my goal turning all viewers into debate experts?
Of course not, I'm simply here to explain induction and deduction so as to give you guys a solid foundation when it comes to reasoning. Even if you'll never appear on TV or even be involved in a formal debate, it still makes sense to understand how to properly build an argument and in my opinion, deductive and inductive reasoning help you do just that!
So, next time someone tells you to deduce/induce something, you won't just nod without understanding what exactly it is that he/she wants, you'll actually be able to do it :)

Induction: start with with specific premises to arrive at a general conclusion. The conclusion is probable. It allows for uncertainty in the conclusion but the premises are always right. Deduction: start with something general and draw a specific conclusion. The conclusion is certain if the promises are true. This is very helpful; thank you!

What I don’t quite understand is what if I start from a specific premise and draw a specific conclusion. Like in « he’s covered in sweat, his bottes are covered in dirt and grass, conclusion he’s been working in the garden ». Neither the premise nor the conclusion are generalizations. So what is this?

You probably already figured it out, but I believe it's called abductive reasoning, where you come to the most probable conclusion based on observations.

Could you explain a little slower when you do it? It's just hard to keep up with all the new concepts you're teaching when you talk fast, sorry to be a bug lol just an honest request

A very fair request Ryan, thanks for the feedback! I sometimes got carried away in terms of speed, hopefully managed to find the right balance with my most recent videos, it's always difficult to find the right compromise between speed and including enough information :)

I dislike when inductive arguments are demeaned. The problem with deductive logic is, it suppose that premises are true. No premise is perfect, which makes it inductive. Deductive logic blames everything on premises and get escaped easily. That's why people who fool others use deducitve logic.
