I saw Death Grips on their tour with Ministry, and EVERY SINGLE PERSON was there for Death Grips. They played first, completely tore the house down, and by time Ministry took the stage, half the audience was gone. Wise decision though, Ministry sounded awful live and the album they were promoting is their worst one yet.

NLDW is criminally underrated in my opinion. Some of the ways the band uses the absence of sound or removal of elements is genius and makes listeners uncomfortable in the best way. Almost Scott Walker Bisch Bosch level.

Around 2014, NLDW was originally my favorite with its theming and brutal sound design, plus I think it's still a (personally) strong pick for having their best album closer. Artificial Death in the West is one of their few melancholic songs while still being a good dance track. I think they never really neared that same vulnerable strain in writing or timbre until 2.5 years later with On GP

Bottomless Pit is my favorite, but I certainly understand where you're coming from on it. I find it one of the best "Victory Lap" kind of albums. It's Money Store songwriting with the intensity of The Powers That B (moreso Jenny Death). Solid commentary!

Bottomless Pit is definitely their most slow burn of an album in regards to how you may feel about it over time. My initial thoughts when it came out reflected yours, but going back to listen to again and again throughout the years, I've come to appreciate and respect the clean beats they produced with that album. I would say it's their most listenable production to date, and I put it in high regards. NotM is still their best work tho

i feel like bottomless pit was interesting mostly because it was the heaviest album they've ever made, even compared to the powers that B? there're songs on there that feel like they took influence metal more than hip hop. I completely agree with you on The Powers That B being their best work, however I think up my sleeves is their best song. Because just listen to it. It feels like eavesdropping MC Ride's psych ward therapy session. His emotions are extremely raw both lyrically and in the way he... "sings"? in the song. It's not only their best sounding song, it's MC Ride's purest performance.

I would give a kidney and both testicles, if they would play the whole thing live, but they always segue into another song before the second verse, for reasons unknown. Many have speculated that it's just too personal of a verse to do, and It's actually even more special on the album for this reason, now that I think about it. I love it so fucking much too.

If you'd like a challenging dive, try Death's Dynamic Shroud. 15 albums and 1 live album. Good luck.
