I'll say, when I attended Hella Mega, I was blown away by how fantastic of a frontman Billie Joe Armstrong still is, the dude couldn't be full of more energy and explosive excitement to get the crowd going batshit crazy - - - even a crowd that was 4 hours into the marathon concert that was Hella Mega. And Tre Cool and Mike more than kept up with that energy.

i saw GD both on their Revolution Radio tour and on Hella Mega Tour. i've seen more small venue shows than stadium/arena shows by this point, and i strongly prefer them because of how much more crowd interaction there is, both between performers and crowd members and between crowd members and other crowd members. but Billie Joe just knows how to make a stadium show fun! and Mike and Tre can not only keep up with Billie Joe, but their stellar live playing actually enhances BJ's energy. Green Day is probably the only legacy band i'd even consider getting arena show tickets for anymore, let alone AGAIN. all members of Green Day have more energy at 50+ than i do at 22 lmao. and entertaining a crowd that's already several hours into a concert is NOT easy. Green Day is seriously one of the best bands i've ever seen live, their shows only rank below certain small venue shows for me because of the cool shit that happens at small venues (like literally getting to mosh with the singer; KennyHoopla, for anyone wondering, i highly recommend him!). if you like Green Day and you like concerts, go see them next tour. you WILL NOT regret it!
@volutedmetal8543

I thought it was a very well adapted show! Keeps the original energy of the songs, as the band had a big hand in the creation. but adds musical theater elements (vocal harmony arrangments) that heighten the impact.
@nintendonut100
@nintendonut100 2 года назад
It has some narrative problems (mainly just that it's a bit broad and isn't terribly well defined narratively), but it's a damn good show nontheless. The narrative is functional enough, and the music is great, the arrangements are brilliant, and it has loads of energy.

@@alianne92 it's genuinely been really fun! it's really interesting comparing modern pop-punk work, particularly MOD Sun & MGK and comparing that to Blink-182, Green Day, older skate-punk and the emergence of punk-rock. A lot of interesting stories and similar situations repeating themselves. My conclusion atm is that pop-punk is just fast, guitar music that's either about stupid topics or lived experiences and artists are embraced when playing the genre by the industry & audience.

@@Plunkcown I'm tipping my cap to it but that's all I can afford to give it on my word count for this assignment, I'm calling it a semi-underground scene through that point as there are bands having widespread success but don't have breakthrough chart hits that bands could achieve in the 2000's, and the next time pop-punk charted again and became relevant to the wider areas of popular music is with MGK, hence the title of my essay at this moment is: "Pop-Punk in 2020/21: a Renaissance or gentrified rubbish?

I haven't listened to enough Paramore, but Deftones is an excellent pick. some of the best music post-2000, period--not to mention godly singing that's unique to Chino and their mix of majesty + sleaze give plenty to talk about--but also enough highs and lows that there's plenty of contrast across their discography. it's not a spotless discog where every take is "this is top-notch". my personal favorites are White Pony (duh) and Diamond Eyes.

I really appreciate how you framed Green Day's exploration into more radio friendly sounds as "experimentation". I takes a lot of conviction, commitment and creativity to be able to break away from your established sound and figure out how it works in a poppier way. So many bands fail at it and lose what made them special in the first place. Bands don't get enough credit when they "sell out" successfully, but Green Day managed it.

Green Day's 'Holiday' was one of the first secular songs I was exposed to as a child raised in a Christian home. Although I scratch my head at their seemingly immature direction these days, I have tremendous appreciation for their impact on me as a young teen. I can't seem to decide if they are ever really deserving of the hate they get, but it was refreshing to hear a positive take from someone who isn't a 'born le wrong generation' type. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and feel you are unmatched in this category. Love all your funny quips, and I love learning so much I didn't know about a band I grew up listening to. Thanks for your videos.

As far as I'm concerned, only Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience are in the "bad to horrible" range. Maybe it's just because I was a teen when it came out, but I can't understand the flack that No Line on the Horizon gets! While I'm dishing out possibly unpopular U2 takes, their '90s work contains plenty of their best stuff. Zooropa is my fave.

One of the best, most energetic concerts I've ever seen. I've seen them twice ('09 and '10 -- and have tickets for this year!) and its crazy how they can play non-stop for over 3 hours w/ little to no break between songs. Only other live shows I would put above them that I've seen are Kanye and Paul McCartney.

Something that was missed here but seems to be easy to forget is that in 2006, Green Day and U2 did a collaborative single called The Saints Are Coming. Even in my Green Day heyday of late 2000s to the early tens I didn't know about this and when I discovered it I thought it was something made recently. EDIT: As an expansion and correction to this comment, the collaborative single is a cover and not an original song. The original Saints are Coming is from the Skids made back in the late 70s

As someone who was introduced to green day with 21st century breakdown and then spent 2010 going through their discography was a pleasant surprise. As someone who wasn't into pop punk it served as a gentle push into the scene. When you already like the band you become more open to different styles they have worked with.

The post 21st Century Breakdown stuff never resonated with me the same way, but I keep coming back to American Idiot, Nimrod, Dookie and especially Warning. No joke I think my introduction to Green Day was, of all things, "Amy" from Dos, mainly since I had been a fan of Amy Winehouse and wanted to hear what I was told was a really great tribute to her. It's still honestly up there as one of my favourite Green Day songs along with "Whatsername," both of which I'm kinda sad were not discussed in the video but honestly I can't complain with how good this video was. Will for sure have to go check out the playlist and the albums I haven't checked out yet. Thanks again Mr. The Snare, keep up the great work.

With American Idiot, like you I was around 9 when it came out and my very political father was obsessed to the point that he’d let me and my four year old sister sing along to it in the house, much to the horror of our mum. One of my strongest memories though, is driving back from my grandad’s funeral (bear in mind this was about an 8 hour trip from my parents hometown to where we were living) and watching my dad cry when Wake Me Up When September ends came on. For that reason alone this album will always hold a place in my heart. An excellent DDD as always! 💕

I saw American Idiot the musical in 2010 and I thought it was incredible. The way that they portrayed Wake Me Up When September Ends with the light and projectors that made it look like papers (and bodies) falling from the sky...I was sobbing. Plus if you hear more recent versions of it, Billie does change the line from "Twenty years have gone so fast" to "forty years" when it comes to the death of his father. I got chills when I heard it live late last year and it's still the main thing I think about when I am asked about the concert. My personal order of GD albums to listen to would be AI, Warning, Nimrod, 21st Century Breakdown, Rev Rad, and then Tre (personally Tre became my favorite album out of the trilogy). Also give a listen to the Broadway cast recording of American Idiot. The orchestrations on some songs bring new light into them.
