Players like Warren Moon and Kurt Warner are proof positive that Hendon Hookers age is NOT an issue for his transition as the future of the Lions. The Lions are playing the smart long game.
Lions, Brad, see the smartness in having a great backup. It only takes one hit and Goff could be injured. Hooker is the answer. And at that point he's the one to lead us towards the SB.
Hendon is my guy. Brad Holmes got Hendon for a reason. If Goff goes down for 2 or 3 games. We need him to take over for those games. If not we might not have a chance for the super bowl.
Humbly disagree. Learning behind an All Pro QB is the best thing can happen. More importantly, injuries do happen to QBs and Hooker will have chance to shine at that time. Also, games already decided, will have Hooker playing. Sure he is old but is also mature and by the time Goff will retire, Hooker may have couple of Superbowl rings!!
@@PhilAndersonOutside Wrong. Goff does 2 things: 1- throws the ball away quicker to compensate for not sufficient pass blocking 2- and is nimble enough in the pocket to avoid being sacked (though more the previous)
A more relevant comparison is the Favre to Rodgers or even earlier, Montana to Young. Hooker is in a PERFECT situation because he can sit and learn from an upper tier QB for 3 years and maybe become our next starting QB for 5-8 years after he takes the reins 💯
Plausible situation, except young players don't truly "learn from" a senior QB. That is an oft-repeated fallacy. The people who teach them are the QB Coach, and OC and HC, sometimes external private coaches. The senior QB may set an example, befriend them, but they are not there to mentor and teach them like a QB Coach does.
Learn from being prepared and watching the minute nuances in practice and during games. You don't think Favre rubbed off on Aaron or Aaron on Love. C'mon.
i really wish joe burrow would've had a few years to ride the bench tbh. he had that "i'm young and invincible" mentality going into the NFL and now his body is falling apart at 27.
yea they really shoulda drafted Sewell, i feel like they missed the ball on drafting OL. Cause there where some great classes at that tackle spot. Love burrow really respect his game. hopefully he stays healthy . I wish they can keep that team together.
Good video. I think the issue most of all may be age. Not Hooker, but the fact that Goff is just 29. He could in theory be the Lions starting QB for another 6, 7, 8 years if he continues to play well and stays healthy. But I agree completely with you that Hooker needs to have the mindset that he's going to play, he's going to start. Eventually it will happen, he just has too much talent. A problem Hooker may run into is he will need reps, beyond just the pre-season. Hopefully as the season goes on the Lions will get him out on the field, even if it's garbage time.
Awesome work. The more you inform us on Hooker, the better. The best thing is, if you're right this could help you quite a bit. If you're wrong, who'll remember, not many.
The doomsday scenarios for Hooker are ridiculous. He is in the same position that Steve Young, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Danny White experienced to name a few NFL QB's. The Lions are building a dynasty. Every QB I just mentioned was a part of a dynastic franchise, 49ers, Packers, Patriots and Cowboys. Do some research, study the league and embrace the process. We need Hooker and he doesn't need his own fanbase downing his situation. Lions fans need to evolve and FAST!
Any scenario that views Hookers situation as negative is a doomsday mindset. We are set up for an amazing future. A future that includes Hooker on the roster without exception.
@@spiritofdetroitpodcast I’m missing the point of Montana being traded. Young spent 4 years as a backup to Montana. Young was a first round draft pick and sat for 4 years. Nobody called 9ers out in anyway for the move. It was brilliant as a matter of fact. Montana had completed the best years of his career. The transition was apart of building their dynasty.
@@triciamiller7668 u missing a lot to that story young wasn’t draft to SF they traded for him - bill put major pressure on. Them created descension your missing there was a lot of turmoil there just watch americas game then watch there separate docuseries they didn’t speak for years
Yes Jared Goff Bum Azz can do wrong in Detroit. Mannnnn I hate we gave him all that money, Especially with a No Trade clause 😩😩😩. 2 years could’ve been cool if any but why not let him play out contract & if anything franchise him to see if he’s really the guy. Goff jacked a lot of rec!!! With our O Line Hooker can do just as good if not better & a whole lot cheaper. I hate that deal
Why do you think Hooker would do just as well? Do you think you know better than the guys who see him every day at practice? Do you think YOU as some rando knows about Hookers development better than the guys who have done this at a high level for their career and have close eyes on Hooker and know what he is capable of? IF he gave us a better chance, he would be starting! Its as simple as that. Goff is a top tier QB and has all the stats and experience to prove it. Has done it for multiple teams and you want to throw all that away on a whim? You think adding a sour feeling to the locker room by FRANCHISE tagging the QB that the WHOLE LOCKERROOM believes in and sending a message to them that you will NOT be rewarded if you perform in Detroit? Hell no!! Your take is SO BAD I question whether you even watch football frfr.
He doesn't have enough experience to take us to the SB. After sitting behind Goff for a few years, if the talent's there the future for Detroit is sweet. Who started after Montana at the age of 30? Mr. Steve Young. Don't read too much into that. Love after Aaron, 3 years. Aaron, three years after Bret.
Hooker is The FUTURE. Steve Young was 30 when he took over as starting QB for the 9ers.... Ya worked out pretty good. This is how you build a team that wins for decades. Hooker is signed through 2026. Goff through 2027 with 2028 a Team option. So I'm sure Holmes extends Hooker in 2026 for 4-5 year extension that wont break the bank. Best situation ever for Hooker and Lions. Welcome to how a WINNING Franchise is Operated at The Highest Level! Go Lions! ✊👊💪👌🔥💯
Agree 100%. Hooker must do his part and show out during preseason as Goff won't play a snap. I personally think Hooker is a 1st round talent and am very happy we have both QBs. You need both.
The problem is, Steve Young sat behind Joe Montana who was regarded as one of the best. Not a mid-tier QB who can’t win the BIG game. Goff is not a difference maker, just a good QB who can run a system. Everything has to be in place for Goff in order for it to work. The Rams literally dumped Goff for Stafford and ended up winning a Super Bowl
I'm afraid it's going to be the 4th scenario: Josh Dobbs gets traded late to a bad team. Shows enough talent to be traded to an almost playoff team, and gets blamed for how bad the teams were.
Lol this is dumb. Hooker in a bad situation??? He was drafted to be a backup to goff and learn. Exactly the situation hes in. Only 30 starting jobs. Gotta beat the man to be the man. Its literally that simple. Why would we trade him??? Would make zero sense for us.
Hooker is in a GREAT position. Hooker is going to need years to learn this system. You are right. Jared Goff would have to be seriously injured not to play. If Goff goes down, Teddy would start not Hendon. OMG Hooker being compared to the G.O.A.T.??? the Interception machine that is Bret Farve, noooooo. Nobody knows if Hooker can read defenses. He didn't at Tennessee.
Oh yea. You're lying about him being an interception machine. Need to take that narrative somewhere. Injury caused him to drop to the third round. He was pick to compete with Goff which I think made Goff better. His last year he top two or three in the SEC.
The only reason why another team would want Hooker is once he's mastered McVay's playbook. Can't wait to see if Caleb Williams is another Mahomes or a Russell Wilson. He's got the same playbook to learn with Waldron in Chicago and unlike Hooker Caleb will start.
I really enjoy your presentation. Clean and concise. Good visuals to backup quality information. Could Hendon Hooker be the Lions Patrick Mahomes? Maybe that's a reach but I see the comparison. I think Jared Goff is in a better spot than Alex Smith was at the time. But Hendon clearly has a skill set that Goff cannot match. Given enough time in the offense who knows. I would love to see the Lions deploy Hendon as a Taysom Hill weapon. Might be gimmicky at first but maybe that keeps him involved, engaged, and adds value over time.
I appreciate your view and you watching the channel i do like the idea of the taysom hill package . I think thats unique and i like it. I feel confident that you and i understand more about the situation than the average fan. i don't want hendon to be traded but ill be happy if he gets a opportunity either here or somewhere else he deserves an opportunity.
Hmph. I'm wondering too, but I'm more about the line. Any quarterback with the smarts and precision decision making can shine with it. A little mobility would add something to that. If Goff gets us there, a SB win, I'll be cheering. I also qualify his quality with that number one line. But, how did Philly do with thier line ... good year ... okay year ... let's see Goff this year. He's good. He's got a great line. A lot of qbs probably look good with that.
Hooker’s future may be tied to Ben Johnson. Detroit’s OC is going to be a head coach very soon. It could be Ben Johnson will be bringing his QB along for the ride when he signs his deal. After all a QB that has a grasp of your offensive scheme is worth much more than the top rookie in any draft class. I found it interesting that a team like Denver would take the sixth QB off the board at pick twelve and no one called Brad Holmes about acquiring Hooker? Odd.
I love to hear that we share the same value in Hendon Hooker. Great content brotha. Sorry I’ve been behind in the videos. I’m trying to catch up. And lastly I couldn’t agree more. Just win 💪🏼🫡
1- hello Goffphobic 2- I've gotten the past 3 seasons predicted correctly, including playoffs, and I predicted the playoffs before the regular seasons even started 3- I said this season will be less wins due to not as easy schedule (before schedule came out) so 9 to 11 wins and no division win< 4- but I also said that the Lions will attend this season's Super Bowl but don't know if it'll be a win 5- although I also predicted when Campbell was hired as HC that Lions would win SB 5 seasons after (so next season) 6- and I predicted then ^ that the Lions would win 3 or 4 Super Bowls within 10 years of the 1st win.
Author of this video is very short-sighted and doesn't understand the NFL (where guys get hurt all the time) and roster construction. Hooker gives us a GREAT (potential) backup quarterback on a very affordable (more important now than when he was drafted due to extensions to Goff, Sewell and St. Brown) contract for the next three seasons. There's great value in that, considering this team has Super Bowl aspirations.
Tennessee ran a goofy system where only 1 WR ran a real route. So no we don't know if Hooker can read passing progressions. It's why Hooker ran for his life in college. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xmaCb7QGnGQ.html
how is he in a bad position? hes making millions chillin on a SB caliber team. hes gunna geta ring by doing nothing. hes protecting his health and longjevity. hes straight. if anything, he will take over after jared contract. he will be 31 or 32 so primne age. aside from mahomesm, every superbowl winning qb was over the age of 30 the past 15 years.
Watch end up that Ben Johnson stayed because he wants to work with Hendon. The Goff contract shouldn't bother anyone 1. he deserved it 2. Over the past 3 season we seen what qb needy teams would do for a decent qb if Goff takes a nose dive ( i doubt) next 2 season im sure someone will trade for him 3. We wont the best person out there if Jared stays consistent and somehow Hendon still outperform him good if he doesn't cool we still have a high quality back up and trade piece.
Patrick Mahomes has never beaten Goff. Jared put 54 points on KC the first time they played in one of the greatest NFL games ever played. and beat KC again last year day 1 with a different team. Sorry, Patrick Mahomes is no Jared Goff.
