Mk8 GTI has a Garrett-Turbo..The 7 has a IS20 turbo. The 8 has 350 bar injection pressure against 150 bar in the 7. The 8 has also revised pistons and completely revised engine parts and exhaust. The 8 has also better aerodynamic. Tests in Germany against a lightely moded 7 TCR with 305 hp shows that the 8 GTI accelerate nearly as fast then the moded TCR!!

Yeah but still will take a 7.5 over the 8 just on the interior alone. Power is subjective do to mods on either model. Stock vs Stock with the same tires we have seen at the track the 2 are neck to neck and these are DSG equipped cars. Sometimes the numbers don't tell all.

Watch the Savagegeese video on the Mk8. They were blown away by the improvements in driving dynamics over the Mk 7. I don't think the interior is worse, just different. I don't like it at all, but I'll take it, as long as they make the digital interfaces mostly glitch free. Right now my MK7 is running fine, so it'll be a couple of years before I even consider a MK 8. They should have the bugs worked out by then.
@povilasmarveloustv3810
@povilasmarveloustv3810 3 года назад
@@johnstone7697 it is worse and different. But it being worse is not an opinion, but a fact. It's laggy, touch buttons aren't as precise as physical buttons, you don't get the same feedback from touch controls as you do from physical controls, touch controls are more distracting than physical controls and VW also has taken some functions off the dash and hidden it in the settings of the infotainment center which aren't nearly as convenient to use as they were before. So you have the interior that is slower, more distracting and less convenient to use. it's not user friendly. Cars interior is one of the most important aspects of a car. i'd wait for at least a facelifted mk8 gti because the problems with the current mk8 interior aren't just software based. Your money though.

@@rogeld6677 I agree with you. The better power is nice. It may very well be a better drive. With all that said i prefer buttons on my steering wheel. The only thing I do like are the full lcd screen for the driver and the fan cool seats. They should have been added in the 2020 model when the Golf R was discontinued. I'm in need of a new car. I was seeing if i should wait or pull the trigger now. After seeing the new GTI I'm not happy with what is being presented. When i drive i feel around for the correct button. I was expecting Paul to start with: 'This one is for the geeks' :-) Another very interesting comparison video, much appreciated. Many upgrades for the Mk8, but it's a pity that VW dropped the indirect manifold injection, which was standard on Mk7 GTI (and Rs) over here on the east side of the Atlantic. That carbon build up on direct injection-only engines can be pretty bad after very limited mileage. In the future I am hoping to see a 3rd video in this series called Mk8 GTI vs MK8 GTI Clubsport. As with Mk7 Clubsport models, it has the engine from the R model, just slightly de-tuned from 320 to 300HP. Episode 4 can be MK8 GTI Clubsport vs Mk8 GTI Clubsport Edition 45 ;-)

Mk7 gli owner here. Wow this is alottt more different then i expected. Theres a certain beauty about late model mk7s and mk7.5s being that everything on the car has been around a while and proven. With all the different mechanics of the mk8 i personally would not buy it for a few years or a refresh as you dont know how much stuff is gonna be faulty and need an update/redesighn. Thats the only thing that sold me on the gli is that its mechanically the same as a mk7 gti Pp which has been around along time and there have been multiple parts that have undergone updates-ie water pump. Early model cars almost alwaysss have more problems then you want regardless of what brand/vehicle. But it sounds like the mk8 would be alottt more fun to drive!!! Edit: asp bery important in that being this new 2 things are going too happen 1good, 1bad: bad is that apart from things that are the same as the mk8 the new mechanical stuff is gonna have a much higher price tage too fix/ replace aswell as possibly some aftermarket hiccups figuring out what can fit the car. #2 a very good thing!!! A common theme is that parts for older generation cars get cheaper!!!! Thats a very good thing if you hate spending money but love modifying your car; oh and also when your car breaks of course..that too😅😂

The one thing that people need to realize is what one person likes or dislikes about a new car, old car, whatever, is dependent on the person. "Newer" cars are not always better. Cars are more than just the performance numbers. Its the connection you have with the car and how the car makes you feel when you drive it. For example, I am a past Lancer Evo owner. I have been fortunate enough to have owned 4 of them. Was able to buy them all new. Had an Evo 8, Evo 9, Evo 9 MR and a X. Out of the four the 9 MR to me? Was the best car. Yes the X had more stock HP and TQ. Yes the new car had TQ Vectoring and all that, but the 9 MR just hit me in the right places and to date has been the best car I have ever had the chance to own. Today I drive a MK7.5 GTI. I had a MK6 GTI for 5 yrs, sold it to a friend. Last year I was in need of a car and saw the MK7.5 was being sold at a good price. I bought an S model, but it has all that I want. Right away I can tell you a MK7 is not as nice as the MK6 on the inside. You can just feel that the car just feels cheaper (MK7) vs the MK6. Does this mean the 7 is a bad car? No. Does this mean the Evo 8, or X was a bad car? No, it just is a feeling you have. Now this new MK8 might be better by the numbers, but the car is losing all the fun mechanical feel that previous gens have had. Everything is going electronic and while doing so? You lose something. With each passing gen you lose something. I do not like LCD screens in the dash, I like mechanical gauges, I do not like Haptic feedback buttons, I like switches that click and dials that you can feel move, I don't like E Brakes, I like an actual brake handle I can pull up on, and I can go on and on. Some of you out there may love the tech, and that is awesome. Just don't expect me to be lining up to buy a MK8 any time soon. Honestly? The Direction VW is going? This MK7.5 might be my last VW I will ever buy. It is what it is....Now if I can only find a nice Evo 9 MR again, Yeah good luck on that one 👍😎

mk6 insides feel super cheap compared to mk7, even mercedes had to delay the C class by an entire year because they didnt come close to the mk7 interior quality, noise dampening and ride
@eppyz
@eppyz 3 года назад
@@ahhhh226 I will have to disagree with you I have owned both of MK6 and now a MK7. 5. The MK6 had a more quality feel to it than my MK7. 5 does. Here are some examples:. MK7. 5 has no felt lined glove box, no locking glove box, no cooled glove box, less soft touch materials on the dash and side panels, carpet is cheaper in quality, seats feel cheaper, no insulation around spare tire, no net on the under side of the cargo cover, No LED lighting in the trunk, no hood insulator. Now I prefer the look of the dash better in the MK7 but I'm talking about how it's put together. It's cheaper. Now I do get a more powerful engine, a 7 speed DSG and bigger brakes but the MK7 overall feels cheaper to me. I owned my MK6 for 5 1/2 years then sold it to a friend. I know that car very well. I do like my MK7. 5 but there are things about it that feel cheaper to me. Plus the MK7 is built in Mexico vs Germany for North America which is kinda a bummer but not a deal breaker. It is what it is.

@@ahhhh226 yes we do you have an R and I have a GTI. My 2020 GTI does not have a cooled glove box, no hood insulator and many other nice touches that my MK6 GTI had. They have cheapened the car. Now there is more performance vs my MK6 but the MK7. 5 gives an overall cheaper feel to me overall. Especially on the interior.

It's taken VW 8 generations of the car to try and match what Honda have been doing with the Type R brand. And they still haven't quite managed it.
@WitchYuki22
@WitchYuki22 9 месяцев назад
Not realizing that the original GTI is actually the grandfather of the civic SI/type R or pretty much any modern sport compact. The fact that Honda had to make Si as a middle child option before the fk8 gen means that the GTI forced Honda to catch up. Btw what happened to those 10th gen civic issues like A/C issues, oil dilution and gear grinds (especially for the type R)? Oh wait you Honda fanboys just sweep those issues under the rug because "hOnDa iS ReLiAbLe!" 😂😂
@DjNikGnashers
@DjNikGnashers 9 месяцев назад
@@WitchYuki22 I'm not talking about previous versions. The Mk1 Golf GTi was a groundbreaking vehicle, although the Talbot Sunbeam Ti was a better car only 2 years later. and the Sunbeam Lotus another year after was the ultimate hot hatch with 150bhp, blowing the Golf into the weeds. In the same year 1976, Renault 5 made an 'Alpine' which was just as fast and handles better, so not sure the Golf could be the 'godfather' of the hot hatch thing. The Lancia Beta HPE from 1975 a year before the Golf, was a hatchback, and had a 2 litre twin cam, much more powerful than the Golf. The Alfasud Sprint was also released in 1976. There is an argument for the 1974 Simca 1100 Ti being the first hot hatch, but either way, the Golf wasn't first.

Oh and I'm not a Honda fanboy at all, so your trolling was way off the mark son, never owned a Honda in my life. My avatar should have given you a clue, it's my current car a BMW OG M2. I am a serial BMW owner for the past 15 years, and before that had all sorts from Fords, Vauxhalls, Renaults, Saabs, Morris, Hillman, Nissan, and dozens more. Passed my driving test in 1986.
@WitchYuki22
@WitchYuki22 9 месяцев назад
@DjNikGnashers and is there any of those hot hatches still around these days? That's what I thought lmao Don't backpeddle now. Your original comment was about VW catching up to Honda in terms of sport compact when in fact, it was the other way around
@DjNikGnashers
@DjNikGnashers 9 месяцев назад
@@WitchYuki22 I think you meant 'are' any of those hot hatches around these days. Well the Honda Civic came out in 1972, a LONG time before the Golf, and it's still around. You misread my 'original comment' maybe because you are a bit thick, and not able to understand basic English ? The Mk1 Golf isn't around now is it ? It wasn't the first hot hatch, and it wasn't the best, as I have proved. Every newer version of the Golf, has been outclassed by other brands and models. The Civic (seeing as you want me to talk about Honda), 4th generation had a fantastic SiR in 1989 which was much better than the Mk2 Golf as the Golf had been around since 1983 and was well behind the brand new Civic. Lets not even talk about the Mk3 Golf in 1991, as it was a proper pudding, an absolute turkey. The Civic has been ahead of the Golf ever since.
